I'm thinking it's because he was in the area when Blackbeard began to wreak havoc and decided he would like to intervene, thank you very much. But for whatever reason, he loses. Blackbeard recognises him from the rumors of the revolutionaries and decides to see if he'll be worth a Warlord seat. And whatdya know, it just so happens that the government is willing to dish out in exchange for the apparently highranking feral revolutionary.
Ace is still chasing rumors of Teach's whereabouts after he missed him in Jaya when he gets a newspaper that makes him go stock still. Teach is now a Warlord and he got the title by handing in a revolutionary. The revolutionary is slated for execution at Marineford, as a public showing of the consequences of going against the World Government. There is a name and a photo accompanying the headline. That face- that name- it can't be. The same blond curls and blue eyes, the identical way that face twists into a defiant snarl, the name. . .Sabo?
Needless to say Ace is having a lot of emotions right now and is not a happy camper. He can say one thing for certain, he's going to get Sabo outta there and hug beat his ass for not having the decency not to atleast say goodbye that he didn't want to be brothers anymore that he was alive. He's also extraordinarily upset that somehow TEACH found Sabo before him.
Garp is also having a bad day. It was good at first, he had a nice morning and even stole some of Senny's crackers again. Then, instead of Senny just yelling, he dropped the bomb about a revolutionary to be executed and ordered him to be one of the guards present. That soured him a bit since revolutionary meant this was a man following Dragon, probably even one he was fond of since he was so highranking. Garp wondered if he'll end up seeing his no-good son during this execution, who knows. Afterwards, Garp actually sees the revolutionary. Now, it's been years and they only met like 3 times but Garp can sure as hell recognise his grandkids anywhere. But when he goes to give him a Gramps scolding about life choices and not telling your family you're alive along with a patented fist of love, he learns that Sabo doesn't know him and can't remember shit. He doesn't know Ace or Luffy. Well...this complicates things.
Dragon, Koala, and the rest of the revs are having a bad week. First Sabo goes missing on one of his missions with only destruction left to be found in the area. Then, when they finally get some info about his whereabouts, it's to learn that he's going to be executed in one of the Marine's strongholds. Now, the revs aren't usually fans of direct confrontation but they took SABO. Sabo, the revolutionary who's spent his whole life amongst them. Sabo who is so passionate to the cause and ignites a fire in all those who follow him. Sabo who's the chief of staff in all but name. Sabo who's slated for death. How could they not decide to save him when there's still an opportunity? Of course, they'll rib him properly for being a damsel in distress after they raise hell.
The Whitebeards are not having a good day. Their traitorous ex-Nakama Teach was declared a Warlord this morning and nobody is happy with it. Everyone's tense. What is Teach going to do now as a Dog of the Marines? More importantly, what's Ace going to do?
They get a call, it's Ace! He doesn't sound well, a cocktail of feelings are in his voice. Anger, grief, relief, shock, and not even Ace knows what else. He's calling to say he's no longer chasing Teach! . . . Instead he's going to invade Marineford to save the revolutionary Teach sold for power. . . Of course, Teach managed to capture a brother of Ace that not even Ace knew was still alive. Naturally, Ace won't allow his death to pass again. He apologises for what backlash could occur but he can't stand by, he thanks them for everything and hangs up before they can say anything. They look to Pops. He sighs and declares that this should be revolutionary business. But since this is Ace's brother and their brother is going off on his own, he grants those who want to go permission and declares that the Moby will be sailing nearby in case of drastic measures. The Whitebeards grin and begin to prepare. It's time to remind the Marines not to deal with Traitors and not to mess with family of Whitebeards.
Luffy was having a great day! Until he wasn't. He doesn't really care for the newspaper or gathering information. But when he heard today's newspaper being read out he stopped his meal.
He grips the paper in he snatched and stares greedily at the photo printed on the front page. He's known Sabo dead longer than he's ever known him alive. His memory of his face is a foggy rendition of him as a kid. Luffy doesn't really recognise the blond man at first. The longer he looks though, the more he can see Sabo. He doesn't know why Sabo never met up with him or Ace, Ace would've told him if he had, but it doesn't matter. Sabo, his brother, is alive. That's all that matters. Luffy then remembers why exactly he was caught off guard. Sabo isn't free that's not right Sabo should always be free he died to be free who dares cage him (again), Sabo is going to be killed again.
Luffy's on his way to impel down.
Sabo has no clue what that Vice Admiral is on but he should probably ask just so he can avoid it. Him, brothers with a Whitebeard commander and the pirate grandson of the Hero of the Marines who's apparently Dragon's Father?? Yeah, right. He's amnesiac not gullible.
