It is illegal sir. In the state of Ohio there is a law called Goddard's law which makes it a 5th degree felony to kowingly harm or kill a companion animal, which a dog is. Therefore that with the pictures here along with other pictures I have will make his legal defense impossible. I have plenty of pictures of him celebrating the "Hunting" of dogs. Interesting post since there isn’t context to it. Were the dogs running loose? Were they on the guys property? It seems that way from the posts that the dogs were loose and on someone elses property and that owner/hunter chose to deal with it in this manner.

The way he dealt with the situation was not appropriate in my opinion.

I grew up farming and ranching, each rancher/farmer that saw dogs running loose had different ways of dealing with it. Some would call the owners if they knew them, others would shoot near them and occasionally if they could catch them, they would. Those dogs usually ended up at the pound.

This is especially bad when you had packs of dogs that city folks had left in the countryside when they decided they didn’t want them anymore. The ones that didn’t get killed by coyotes or died from starvation became wild and dangerous. All this happens because of irresponsible owners.

This isn’t a gun issue, it’s a personal responsibility and decency problem on the part of both.

Apparently the dogs got loose and they were out in the woods. The guy made plenty of posts on his facebook that he hunts dogs for fun, one of them claiming that "people can't own animals, as soon as they are off your property, it's just an animal not a pet, and it's open season" the owner was also looking for the dogs only a few hundred feet away when he shot them. The dogs had collars as well. Also in ohio it is not legal to shoot someone's dog like that, and definitely not hunt them which is what this guy was doing. He quoted people as saying he's the Liberace of hunting dogs, where he joked and said he shoots coyotes too.

The guy hunts dogs as sport not as him defending his property. That is the context he got up and got dressed to hunt his neighbors dogs, the way I know this is a few hours before he shot them he posted, "time to hunt some more pups, which is easy with a .50 caliber on your back, #hangthecollars" I understand if the animals are on your property destroying your property or killing your livestock. But that isn't what happened, this dude just went out and killed these animals because he knew they were there which is why he had charges filed against him.
