as much as I love to joke about the titans hating Bruce's guts while Dick is his number one glazer (all true things!) it's a deeply humiliating and awful experience to be constantly having to defend someone who has hurt you and continues to hurt you. but Dick can't ever admit that, even to himself, because if he admits it to himself then he has to do something about it.

and what would it mean if Dick who has almost certainly gone through like eight separate "how to respond to intimate partner violence" trainings still managed to get himself abused? by the guy who gave him those trainings? and what would it mean for the foundation of his whole life-- for Robin and Batman and Nightwing-- if it was built on something rotten from the start? awful earthshattering questions. way easier to snap at Roy for making yet another "Batman sucks" powerpoint.

#my favorite aspect of the titans-batman issue is that the titans like #are not helping dick. and often are hypocritical with him in ways that #push him even further towards acting like bruce in the exact ways they dislike #and you can't extricate them criticizing batman from them criticizing dick #because of how entangled brudick are AND because a favorite criticism of dick by the titans IS #"you're just like batman (derogatory)" #they collectively have such complicated relationships and their issues shine in ipv scenarios (via @dickgraysonsptsd )

yes yes yes this exactly. and it's such a good encapsulation of the ways that performative anger at an abuser is almost never about the actual needs of the person being abused it's about our own emotions and our desire for punishment and revenge. but the splashback is immense! in particular because like you mention with the titans they love to simultaneously criticize how Dick doesn't stand up to Bruce enough and how he's just like him.

and they're not necessarily wrong-- it is painful and frustrating to see your friend continue to go back to a situation that hurts them! when you are outside of the cycle of abuse it's so hard to understand why someone doesn't just leave, particularly when you're all superheroes and would cheerfully take Dick to another planet if he asked.

and Dick can be secretive and controlling and high-handed! it's one of his main failure modes. but man it's gotta suck to hear "you're just like Bruce, and btw we think Bruce has fucked you up supremely. we want you to be more independent but ☝️ not like that." he already takes on way too much responsibility and self-blame and now you're saying he needs to somehow extricate himself from his mentor who is by the way fucking Batman??? and if he doesn't he's doomed to be alone forever? yeowch.

I HC Dick's got an oral fixation as a kid which just kind of leads Bruce to assume that that's what kids are like. And inadvertently giving his subsequent Robins oral fixations if they didn't already have them by shoving his dick or objects in their mouth at every free moment, because that was the only way he got Dick to sit still and drop the amped-up energy for any stretch of time. So now it's his go-to method. Jaybin seems nervous about something? Tell him to open up, and stick something in his mouth. Tim is pissed at Damian? He knows what'll help resolve the issue. Steph isn't sleeping well? She can sleep in Bruce's bed so her mouth stays occupied, she'll drift off that way. And, like, through sheer habitual reinforcement it works. And it's all Dickbin's fault for needing to suck on things to give anyone a moment of peace.

It's basically just training at that point. Makes their mind calm down, like meditating 🤍 it helps that they look so pretty sucking on his fingers or cock, getting more sleepy and fuzzy leaning into the comfort... the Robins can even use this on each other, too, when they know the other needs it.

Could jason be clicker trained like a dog to get fully hard when Bruce calls him good/praises him? Maybe not even by Bruce, it's just Dick or Tim taking advantage of Jason's daddy issues. Bruce doesn't even know what's going on.

Jason could absolutely be clicker trained. Bruce could ingrain that boy with a Pavlovian response while he's still running around as Robin. Every time he hears that specific click, no matter the time or place, he drops to his knees and his mouth starts watering. UtRH would've been a whole lot shorter if Bruce had done it.

And certainly nobody else would think to take advantage of his training without explicit permission from Bruce. Dick's not using it as a way to win fights without having to throw a single punch, Tim wouldn't use it as a way to prove he actually is a better Robin, Steph isn't using him to blow off steam when he looks so much like Bruce and it's pissing her off, Damian doesn't simply enjoy having a man larger than himself on his knees in front of him.

Free use robins? No no, free use batman for robins. The only way the family is all together is if they are fucking Bruce. Is bruce going to be selfish and say no and cause arguments?? Ofc not.

Is Bruce really going to say no to Dick, after all that he's taken from his very first son, all the ways he's ruined Dick? Is bruce really going to call Jason's bluff that fucking Bruce is the only way Jason's not killing a gang boss? And then,when Jason kills the guy anyway, ofc that was because Bruce wasn't a good enough fuck. Is Bruce really going to say no to Tim, who is so like Bruce, who has suffered in many of the same ways he has, who refuses to take a break unless the break is fucking Bruce? Or is he going to say no to Damian, who already doesn't think Bruce loves him, who thinks he must fight his brothers for Bruce's attention, who thinks the bedroom is another thing being kept away from him because Bruce prefers the other Robins to him and not because he is Bruce's son?

Bruce who only knows how to use his body to show that he cares, so saying no is like saying he doesn't love his children. And that's just not true... could be something so real and special

They can have family dinners and family get togethers, but it's just everyone fucking Bruce. And Bruce is just happy all the kids are home more often, the rest is inconsequential.
