Amanda here! I was born deaf, but that doesn't stop me! I have a cochlear implant set on my right ear. I wanted to start a blog to spread deaf/hoh awareness as well as relatable posts! I am currently learning ASL. You guys can send me any deaf/hoh problems or anything you want to be shared! Also, my ask is always open!

I got so sick of people ignoring me when I say I'm Hard of hearing that I got this button off of etsy. It works. People see the button and behave accessibly way more often. It's like they think it's an official badge and has saved me so much trouble

I just saw the coolest thing! There’s a company called Deaf Metal that makes jewelry specifically designed to accessorize hearing aids and cochlear implants! They’re made of hypoallergenic silver and use a cool little silicone sling to attach the jewelry to your existing device.   

They create designs for people of all ages, gender presentations, and personal styles. For the hearing aid designs, they have designs that go behind the ear as well as ones that slide onto the pipe going into the ear. They’re designed to be fashionable but not decrease function!

They advertise them as a way to both help you accessorize and to help you keep your hearing aids as findable as possible in the event that you misplace one, or in the case that your hearing aid slips off. Their safety chain options are available in both adults and children’s designs. 

They’re designed by a Finnish HOH designer named Jenni Ahtiainen who has previously done accessory work for people like Snoop Dog & Bono. She believes that hearing aids & cochlear implants should be like glasses, you should be able to style them to your liking. All the products range in cost from $15-50 and if you only wear a hearing aid in one ear, many designs offer the option of purchasing an earring for your other ear so you can match! Say what you want about tiktok but the trend of writing the captions onto the video? That’s super helpful/inclusive for deaf/HoH people (and even people who don’t speak a language natively etc) and I just think that’s kinda cool.

So many platforms have videos that aren’t accessible to people, but it’s become the norm on tiktok to caption the videos and that’s pretty nice. Also since the captions are actually on the video, that means when it gets reposted to other websites it is still accessible!

Hello everyone! Long time no see!!!

Sorry to just jump right into this. But I am struggling to find a vibrating alarm watch that would go on my wrist. I would very much prefer one that also connects to my phone as well to wake me up if I receive calls. I’m not having much luck just typing in vibrating watches for the deaf into the search bar. I used to have a couple of them that only worked for a short period of time because they were so new. I can’t find them now because the project was underfunded and shut down (Pebble). I was wondering if anyone had any options for me or any ideas.

I do already have a bed shaker alarm with a strobe light. It’s just so aggressive, and it is not easily portable.

why closed captioning should always be provided on every video:

auditory processing disorder is a Bitch

people with ADHD can find it hard to concentrate on what is being said without the words in front of them

^autistic people for the same reason

autistic people may also find it hard to interpret verbal messages within the context of the video, so it's useful to have written alternatives to fall back on

do you know how painful it is to be excluded from every joke, every video, every conversation because others just Can't Be Bothered?

some people live in a conservative household or with family who don't share the same ideals, and they may not have privacy to view things on their own, so they may need to watch things with the volume extremely low or muted

if a deaf or hard of hearing person asks you to repeat yourself please do!!! don’t ignore them or say “nothing” or “never mind” !!! you may not think what you said was significant, but you’re forcing us to be in the dark and you’re controlling our environment more than you may realize!!!

I want a Hawkeyes movie where Hawkeyes is deaf like in the comics, and in the first five minutes he loses his hearing aids, and the rest of the movie is silent except for a constant running commentary of what Hawkeyes is thinking until the very end when he gets his hearing aids back.

And there would be closed captions or something for when people use sign language.

And when people don’t sign and he has to read lips, they should get genuinely hard of hearing people to translate so that they know what words or phrases are hard to catch by lip reading.

Also, lots of explosions with no sound. I feel like that would just be cool.
