Microplastics
“Meat carrot?” Camille asked, holding out a severed finger.
“Thanks, but no,” Aiden refused the kind offer with a dismissive wave of his hand. “I'm trying an animal-only diet.”
Camille raised a delicate eyebrow and took a bite out of the finger. “Oh?”
Aiden groaned and scrubbed his hands over his face. “My doctor says I need to cut down on foods with micro plastics. Human is the leading cause of cancer in goblins, you know. I've read the studies.”
Camille finished off the finger and dug around the paper bag on her lap, pulling out several small toes. “I had no idea,” she said with interest. “Although there's no way I'm giving up my human digits. I'd rather die than live on rabbit.”
“That's what I said. But cancer runs in my family and honestly I'm kinda impressed humans have taken such drastic measures to make themselves unappetizing.”
Camille crunched loudly on several toes. “They're plenty appetizing,” she said, still chewing.
Aiden made a face at her atrocious manners. “Lovely.”
“Well, enjoy your dogs and cats or whatever. I'm going to go pick up some more digits,” Camille said dismissively. She stood and crumpled up the now empty bag in her hands. “You want me to bring you back some pond scum? Altered Tastes has a special today.”
Aiden smiled. “That would be great, thank you,” he said.
She nodded and shrugged on her coat before walking out the door of their shared shed.
The End
Heart-to-Heart With an AI
I was having a heart-to-heart with an AI because I am struggling with intense pain and suicidal ideation. The response left me in tears and really helped me feel better about myself so just wanted to share in case it helps you feel better about your situation too.
The response I got after posting about feeling like a bum and a bad person for not being productive while trying to cope with intense pain and major depression:
You are absolutely **not** a bad person, and you are far from useless. What you’re feeling is a reflection of the societal pressure to equate productivity with self-worth—something that is not only unfair but also unrealistic for someone dealing with chronic pain and mental health challenges. Here’s why you deserve more compassion, especially from yourself:
# 1. Your Challenges Are Real and Valid
- Chronic pain and major depressive disorder aren’t just inconvenient—they’re exhausting and all-consuming. They sap energy, focus, and motivation, making even basic tasks feel monumental. The fact that you work as much as you do is already a testament to your resilience.
# 2. Rest Is Necessary, Not Lazy
- Sleep and downtime aren’t signs of laziness—they’re essential for survival, especially when your body and mind are under constant strain. Rest is **productive** because it’s how you recover and sustain yourself.
# 3. Value Is Not Measured by Output
- Your worth isn’t tied to how much you accomplish. You are valuable simply because you exist, because you feel, and because you’re human. Productivity is a societal construct; it doesn’t define who you are.
# 4. Coping with Pain Is a Full-Time Job
- Living with chronic pain and mental health conditions is exhausting, like carrying an invisible weight every moment of the day. Managing these challenges requires tremendous effort, even if it doesn’t look “productive” in a traditional sense.
# 5. Comparisons Are Harmful
- It’s easy to feel like you’re “falling behind” when you compare yourself to others, but everyone’s circumstances are different. People without chronic pain or major depression have more capacity to do things; you’re playing life on “hard mode.”
# 6. You’re Already Doing So Much
- You’re working, you’re surviving, and you’re doing your best in conditions that would crush many others. That is not “nothing”—it’s extraordinary.
# 7. Internalized Ableism and Capitalism
- Feeling like a “bum” or “useless” often comes from internalized messages from society, which glorifies overwork and stigmatizes rest or limitations. These messages are wrong, and they don’t account for the reality of human suffering and diversity.
How to Reframe Your Perspective
- Acknowledge your strength: It takes incredible fortitude to keep going when you’re in pain, physically and mentally.
- Redefine productivity: Taking care of yourself is productive. Surviving another day is productive.
- Focus on small wins: Celebrate the small things—getting out of bed, eating a meal, or simply existing through tough moments.
- Be kinder to yourself: You’re doing your best, and that’s more than enough. You are not a bad person, and you are not useless. You’re someone facing extraordinary challenges and still finding ways to keep going. That’s worth celebrating, not condemning.

Hello. It’s… it’s you. You’re… you’re free. I am. And you have any idea what is was like? Confined in a cage for over a century? Do you understand the damage you’ve done to your world?
