Your Rodya rant is honestly so true!! Her canto alongside the other cantos really made me look at her as a whole and say "... Damn. She has issues, man." the whole Rodya mischaracterization is most likely tied to sexism or people downgrading her character to "teasing lazy woman who uses escapism" it just feels so off ykwim
It's definitely an eyebrow raise when people don't acknowledge her flaws!! Like!! Yes sure I do want to see her get worse. Maybe. A little. But to blatantly ignore her negative traits?? Okay sure buddy. This probably happens with every project moon character ever but Rodya is the one who stands out to me the most since the limbus company fandom preaches about reading but somehow contradicts themselves via rodgregor đ I could go in depth but that's my 2 cents
Yeah!! Yeah!!! Like the big bad of her canto was literally her running away from her problems, her canto is LITERALLY CALLED THE UNLOVING yet people ignore the depths of her character to make her out to be this loving and caring type of person when that's just the mask she puts up in front of others.
To be clear Rodya would very much love being portrayed this way and I don't think it's impossible for her to be loving since 1) she pretends to be 2) this could be set in an au where she got therapy or something. The problem is that people treat Rodya as the teasing lazy woman who uses escapism, as you put it, in canon when her character has been stagnant the entire time and just that, without any depth. It would also be one thing if this was just something that a small part of the fandom did but when the entire fandom does it then it becomes a problem.
On this, I also don't think it's impossible for Rodya to be in a healthy-ish relationship with another sinner despite her negative traits. Like Ishmael definitely could have something relatively healthy with Rodya while calling out her negative behaviour, there's also Meursault who wouldn't pay any heed to Rodya picking on him. The thing with rodigor in particular is that their personalities clash in a way that, unless one or both of them get therapy, the only kind of relationship they can have is a toxic one.
Like, Rodya's whole thing is that she has an inferiority complex that makes her want to do anything she can to be special, which includes bringing down other people (even if they used to be). We're also shown in her SSwT identity that she'll never feel special enough no matter what she does. Gregor, meanwhile, hates himself and wants to be a normal person yet he's forced to be special due to circumstances outside his control. I cannot think of a single situation (besides ooc ones) where either Rodya or Gregor would feel happy being in a relationship together because Rodya will always feel threatened by Gregor and pick on him and Gregor will just let that happen because he thinks he deserves it because he has no self worth.
This actually ties to the sexism because I've seen people perfectly understand that Gregor has issues with his self esteem, and thus pair him up with someone who would help him with his self esteem, but for some reason they're incapable of seeing Rodya as the mean girl she is?? Like right in the canto 1 dungeon (which I can use as an example because Rodya never grew as a character and debatably got worse instead) she throws bugs at Gregor's face, this is very much bully behaviour and yet (and in regards to rodigor specifically) Rodya is only shown as supportive and loving of Gregor. You know, the guy who she threw bugs at back in canto 1??? The guy who she started completely avoiding after canto 9 because Rodya is grossed out by bugs and Gregor is a bug??? Like that's his whole thing????
I didn't mention this in the previous post because it's probably confirmation bias on my part (and prolly still is since there's a ton of ids that "ruin" ships, so this is very much me being heavily biased) but Rodya got the id of the person who called Gregor slurs and triggered his trauma so bad that he turned into roach emperor, like come on.
The projmoon fandom has also always felt a bit sexist, haven't seen much of this on tumblr but there's a lot of it on non-tumblr sites like reddit. You can see it from the way Shiomi gets treated like the devil while Rien gets defended, or how people were so convinced that a man knocked up Ryoshu even though there was nothing to indicate that she was ever pregnant (nor was this anywhere in her source material), how people are convinced that Penelope is going to be a man when there's nothing to indicate that as well (though that's more homophobia than sexism), how some of female characters are reduced to yanderes/simps for their male counterparts (Im Gyeong-eop and Bamboo Hatted Kim are the first examples, but there's also Jia Qiu and Zigong/Zilu, Ayin/X and Angela, Ayin/X and Binah, etc), how female characters are often drawn with bigger chests even if they're flat in canon (Xichun and Baochai come to mind immediately when they're both flat, Baochai's chest being big makes no sense if you think about it for more than 5 seconds), how female characters are always seen as the submissive ones in the relationship while their male counterparts are seen as dominant (like I'm sorry but neither Yi Sang nor Hong Lu wear the pants in the relationship for fausang and ryolu respectively), so on and so forth.
For obvious reasons I am like, the last person on earth who should be complaining about characters being reduced to being simps or yanderes but it really does get tiring when it's all I see and especially when it gets shoved in front of my face when I wasn't looking for it. I could say more about this but honestly at that point it's just a matter of personal taste. I also left out characters that are actually more simpy/yandere like Aeng-du, Outis, Baochai, and Catherine since acting like a simp or being in love with another character *is* part of their character (Aeng-du admits that she's doing it to motivate BHK, while Outis does it because she's Outis), however these characters also often get reduced to their one trait (being a simp) and are flanderized so much. Like you like these characters? Too bad, they exist solely to be the arm candy of other characters now even though there's so much more to them than that.
Also I'm not saying rodigor is a bad ship, I think it's stupid to say that certain ships are bad and others are good since the fun thing about ships is that you can do whatever you want with the characters. These are like, fictional characters at the end of the day so you can play with them however you want. It'd also be one thing if the wholesome rodigor shippers were just one part of the fandom that did their own thing, but instead a majority of the fandom seems convinced that those two are meant to be together and healthy which???? Heathcathy is toxic as hell too (or it would've been if projmoon didn't butcher canto 6, oh Cathy the evil and manipulative woman you could've been.) but those two are very much meant to be together.
The fandom's attachment to rodigor is so weird from a dynamic perspective as well. Like if you want Gregor to be with someone who's cheerful and/or will support him with his self esteem issues, then Hong Lu (again, the one person that visited Gregor post canto 9) is right there. You also have Yi Sang, Heathcliff, Don, even Ryoshu is there. Hell if you're fine with non-sinner characters to pair him up with, you have Kong Qiu, Ezra, Moses, Bamboo Hatted Kim... all of the characters I listed would help Gregor with his issues significantly more than Rodya, and yet it's Rodya that the fandom sticks with. Again if this relationship was treated as the toxic cesspit it is then I wouldn't be as bothered by seeing it but it gets treated as this healthy relationship instead by nearly everyone gets on my nerves.
That said most of my grudge is due to the difference between how het ships get treated compared to same sex ships. Het ships, as you can see with rodigor, get a pass for being toxic and people will hail it as being healthy and cute, but a same sex ship has a fraction of the toxicity of the het ship in question and people will call you an abuse fetishizer.
See donchun for example. I think I brought it up before but I've seen people say that it's sexual assault (??????) while no one says a thing about rodigor. Like I'm not even talking about actually toxic ships like gubosang or healthy het ships like donclair or fausang, I'm talking about a healthy ship like donchun being called toxic while rodigor, despite Rodya being a huge fucking mean girl and Gregor being her favourite victim, gets a pass despite, you know, everything I said.
Projmoon fandom is at least slightly better about this (kinda, I've seen people side eye Valencina/Lucio but not Rien/Shiomi for some fucking reason) than the other fandoms I've been in, but they're really not that much better. Like on reddit especially, and especially regarding the sexism towards Rodya, any image of Rodya with another woman or a man has comments saying "that's Gregor's woman" or "Rodya what are you doing, Gregor will be sad" and it's like, holy shit shut up. It's like she isn't allowed to be her own character and only exists as an accessory for Gregor and to serve him specifically.
But like yeah, honestly the era when projmoon fans could read was back in ruina because no one in limbus can read. There's no literacy to speak of here and the "projmoon fans can't read" joke is fitting despite the games taking heavy influence from other literature.
This includes me by the way, I'm aware that I have my own biases that influence how I view the characters.
Like mischaracterizing isn't inherently a bad thing because there's so much that you can do with it and it can be very fun. I also don't think people should analyze every little single detail a character has because it can understandably be tiring, and also sometimes it's simply not fun.
However if you see a character act like a highschool bully but you think that she's just a nice person who likes teasing others then I will side eye you.
It's also one thing to know how that character really is but writing her as a nicer person, because again, these are fictional characters and you can play with your toys however you want because an individual (or a small group) writing a character as ooc is literally not an issue. But when a majority of the fandom views the character as their ooc/mischaracterized counterpart, it shows that there is an issue within that fandom. Like, say, media literacy and reading comprehension.

Rewatching canto 1 stuff and no one talks about how mean Rodya is to Gregor. Or how mean she is in general
Like aside from the fact that she's very loud about how much she dislikes bugs and is disgusted by them (something that she still does mind you) and doing it near Gregor of all people, she's also outright demeaning of anyone with bug features like,,,,

like this is just so skjdgnksdgs no wonder she got the Valencina id. She thinks that just because she's uncomfortable, everyone else should hide parts of themselves that icks *her* out instead of minding her own business because it doesn't affect her in any way.
You can't even say that she changed since then because Rodya's whole thing so far is that she hasn't changed. Like her whole canto was about running away from her problems and refusing to engage with them and Timekilling Time intervallo shows that she didn't change one bit. Her refusing to interacting with Gregor after canto 9 (like there has not been a single interaction between them ever since the roach emperor stuff) is further proof that her beliefs, thoughts and opinions never once changed since the beginning of limbus
People say that Outis is going to be the traitor but honestly, Rodya is more likely to be the one to betray people.
Anyway this isn't a criticism of Rodya bc I honestly adore her mean girl behaviour and how stagnant her character is. Hope she never changes and in fact gets worse

Your existence, as well as the feelings Chesed has for you, is one of the biggest conflicts in his current life.
He knows he should leave you be. He knows that he should distance himself from you; knows that he shouldnât get attached because youâll die sooner or later. But he just canât help himself.
As much as he tries, he canât control the way his heart aches with jealousy when you so much as look at someone else. He canât stop himself from making you do meaningless work when youâre with him so that you can stay around for a little longer.
He hates the way that his mind lingers on Angelaâs words whenever he has to watch you spend time with someone else.
Abnormalities create more energy through killing people.
He canât bring himself to interact with you beyond the relationship that he has with you as sephirot and agent. Not yet. He wants to grab your wrist and pull you in close before telling you that heâs all yours to do as you please with, but all the conflict he feels towards you and himself prevents him from doing so.
It doesnât stop him from sending you away to work on an abnormality in another department, though. Nor does it stop him from lowering the qlipoth deterrence on his own, without the command of Angela.
Even if his mind was human, his body is mechanical. Whatever injuries he sustains wouldnât matter in the long run when he can just be fixed right back up. Maybe thatâs why he chooses to lower the deterrence of a more dangerous abnormality. One whose escape he can justify as being a mistake on an employeeâs end rather than intentional sabotage on his part.
Does he feel disgusting for it? Absolutely. Heâll be consumed by guilt regardless of what happens.
However, just the thought of you coming to check on him first, or him getting to comfort you and have you lean into him as you cry over losing a loved one is enough to surpress that guilt. Even if itâs just a little bit.
