I do not remember when I got here, but I moved to a land where dreams are too heavy to bear.

Slowly and quickly and slowly again, everything I knew got pulled from my hands.

Some shapes, familiar- abuse, divorce, eviction, injury, stalking, betrayal. But the worst to lose are the ones without names. Near hope, near love, near contentment, near release. All of them dreams. The faith of holding.

I announced that I wanted to leave town and like many things after they are said aloud, found it to be untrue.

“I don’t want to live here anymore.”

That. That was actually true. And the place I want to leave isn’t physical, it’s the place where dreams are too heavy to bear.

So now I drink a lot of tea. And try to imagine what it is to leave. First, imagine a door.
