In this episode of "Taking Lucky Luke and the Dalton brothers too seriously"
Because last night I was thinking what they would be doing in a Modern AU (because being criminals and vigilantes just wouldn't work the same way nowadays, while in the Far West everything was a little crazy).
I decided to base their occupation on all types of media that portray their interests/talents.
Jack would probably be a mechanic (maybe even an engineer since he's one of the "smart brothers"), and yes I'm also using the 2010s animated series because it gives them all character (JUSTICE FOR THE TWINS) and because I love it dearly.
William could easily be a professor, given how he's the one with the biggest cultural baggage. I just need to decide what he'd be specialized in since he appeared to have interest in different fields.
Averell could either be a cook or a painter (or maybe both, because honestly why not, go my multitasking king).
Lucky Luke himself would probably be one of those cops who joined the force to change the system like a way less aggressive Rosa Diaz (or maybe a PI, which would cover the Lonesome Cowboy part).
And then we have Joe. I actually stumbled a little with him, because despite having a fleshed out personality, his interests mostly float around his "job". Then, while I was rewatching the 2010s series (yes I'm so sorry, I just like it that much), I got an idea. Bear with me.
Firefighter. Yes I know, but think about it. It's a dangerous job, full of adrenaline and the type of occupation that involves the use of heavy tool. Which fits him rather nicely. Not to mention the fact that the stereotypical cop/firefighter rivalry thing would give him a reason to know and dislike Luke. (Yes, I was watching the firefighters episode, no I won't take this affirmation back).
