I had this mental picture of Nico summoning ink-like shadows and disappearing  into them, so I made this really short animation to give it a try !

HEY WHAT’S UP, LET’S JUST GET RIGHT TO IT I’M SO EXCITED:

Jason always knows which direction he’s traveling in (okay, Annabeth too I’ll be honest)

Piper tends to compulsively interrupt conversations and add details to stories she’s heard before, not because she was involved in them

Honestly? She only likes to do it to Annabeth who gets all frustrated and puts her hand over Piper’s mouth and continues her story. Piper will then lick her hand obnoxiously. 

When idle, Jason stands with his hands behind his back, like at an “at ease” position, even though he was never in the military. tho new rome is basically military i mean

Piper is the master at driving-with-your-knees 

and Jason has a heart attack almost every time even though he knows he’s safe

Leo walks in the middle of any aisle, sidewalk, or any shared walkway and everyone else is forced to move around him (idk, he just seems like that guy) 

Leo usually forgets to wash his hands after using the restroom and Hazel knows and forces him back in there

Hazel has a weakness for chocolate covered strawberries and movies with Idris Elba

Piper and Jason are always 15 minutes early to everything but Percy and Annabeth? Always 15 minutes late with starbucks

Hazel secretly, strongly hates the sound of chewing and will hum a sweet tune while she eats

Frank will refer to the “good ol’ days” even though he’s actually talking about things that happened yesterday

Percy talks about inanimate objects like they’re people “Whoa, set him down gently.” “Percy, it’s just a lamp.” “He has feelings, too, Annabeth.”

Percy sings loudly and badly while cleaning and cooking (who doesn’t have this headcanon)

despite people thinking that annabeth is the one who uses abbreviations and acronyms without explaining them, Piper is the one who does that. Annabeth likes to overexplain things, actually. (see Frank scene in MoA)

when jason was praetor, he would constantly tell bad jokes and everyone would just nervously laugh or do that fake laugh similar to when a teacher tells a joke in class

and he thinks he’s hilarious

but reyna is just rolling her eyes in the distance

Frank stutters and speaks really fast when he’s excited

Frank has the best laugh- the kind of infectious laugh that makes you laugh even though the joke itself wasn’t funny

Hazel has a green thumb and will talk to her plants whenever possible

Frank really likes corduroy jeans because he likes the texture and the swoosh swoosh it makes when he walks. plus they’re fancier than jeans but not as fancy as dress pants. 

Hazel and Piper never mispronounce a name

Percy always mispronounces names

but he’ll remember after you tell him twice

Percy makes sounds like “pow!” and “bam!” and “swoosh!” while doing everyday things

when he’s driving, he’ll make SKEEET noises with his mouth when turning

Percy is the best at parallel parking- his whole life is getting out of tight spaces

Piper calls everyone by a pet name (sweetie, babe, etc)

Hazel does too but it’s usually dear and darling

Frank likes to tell stories that have no point

The boys’ favorite song to lip sync to? If You Wanna Be My Lover. Fight me on this, I dare you. (or OR Say My Name by Destiny’s Child)

The girls’ favorite song to sing to? POKEMON THEME SONG

All of the seven’s favorite song to lip sync to? Bust A Move

Annabeth cracks her knuckles far too frequently

Jason’s voice is high-pitched when he’s lying and everyone knows it

Frank’s eyes get watery when he’s in an argument and he can’t help it 

During conversation, words usually slip from Percy’s mind and he’ll pause to think of the word but Annabeth always knows which word he meant

THINKING A LOT ABOUT MARIA DI ANGELO TONIGHT:

maria who met hades as a young woman in a foreign country. i see them meeting at a funeral, some wealthy businessman or dignitary dies and the di angelo make an appearance to attend the ceremony and the wake.

she meets hades there, and she can see through the mist, can see immediately he’s not human. she’s a straight-forward young woman and when they get to talking she asks him directly: “you’re not a man. what are you?”

hades smiles. he likes this woman, likes her directness, the way she hooks her feet at the ankles and lounges in her chair like a queen. so he tells her what he is, and maria studies him curiously. “if you’re a greek god, why would you attend a christian funeral service? that seems rather backwards.”

"in death, all men are equal," hades tells her, then gestures to her and ducks his head. "of course, all women too."

maria laughs disbelievingly. she’s been privileged and sheltered, certainly, but she’s seen enough to be aware that’s not the way the world works at all. “oh, i very much doubt that.”

maria, who returns to italy with her parents at the end of her father’s trip, pregnant or with an infant in tow: a child who carries her last name, not her father’s, and maria who still has her father’s last name, and not a husband’s. maria having a second affair and a second child, just the same.

maria returning to her hometown to the scornful whispers of other women and the lecherous stares of men who whistle and dog her footsteps, but she sails through it all with her head held high, like she’s a queen and they’re waste from the gutters lining the street. 

sometimes her parents wish she was less headstrong, because maybe her life would be less of a struggle, but they also knows if she were any less headstrong she wouldn’t be maria, and they love her all the same.

maria sticking it out in italy for as long as possible, raising her children the best she can: teaching bianca to be her own person capable of making her own decisions, teaching nico to be kind and respectful towards women. reading her children bedtime stories and taking them on trips to teach them their legacy, even if they’re too young to be told what it all means yet.

"but how could medea do that to her kids?" nico exclaims in horror. "she killed them!"

"how could jason do that to medea?" bianca counters hotly. "shut up, nico, you don’t know what you’re talking about."

maria listens to them bicker, watches as they get bored and bianca pushes nico over and sits on top of him and runs her fingers along his sides until he’s gasping and shuddering with laughter, and she smiles.

until finally italy entered the war, and she knew the government was stupid and incompetent enough that the fighting would reach italian soil sooner rather than later. she worked with her father to set up a financial pipeline, transferring money to the states as discretely as possible, while her father called in a few favors he’d been sitting on to pull some strings and get his daughter and his grandchildren admittance into the country.

maria getting to america just in time for america to enter the war, only to deal with the stares again, and the whispering, only this time it’s not because she’s an unwed mother to two illegitimate children, it’s because she’s an italian immigrant in a country at war with italy, and she wears it openly. in italy she used english around her children as often as possible so they could learn the language, but here she uses italian so that they don’t forget that it’s theirs.
