Sidney was a strange case and always had been - this wasn't new to him after years of marriage, but he'd known it before he'd risked his life for her the first time. There had been an understanding between them that they'd both seen some serious shit and they took each others' experiences to heart except for one very specific thing. Sidney had this deep sense of obligation whenever the ghostface topic even came up, like she owed everyone for surviving and blamed herself for the psychotic behaviors of incredibly troubled individuals, and it didn't seem to matter what anyone told her to the contrary. It meant that knowing her and knowing the look she got about her when it was even brought up in conversation made him well-equipped to understand when a much more intense version of that same look struck her. Had it been an immediate threat to them there in their home, she would have been a flurry of motion - not that anyone was getting into their house. She may have given up on the full-blown fear and paranoia, but he was a cop and they were both survivors and parents; they were both firearms trained, their security system was top-notch and it was supported by deadbolts, just in case and because neither of them trusted any one method itself. He was still surprised to hear that it was the new killer himself that had called her and not Dewey or Gale, who were both still living in Woodsboro. That hit differently, and it made everything in him tense briefly, but he released a breath and nodded. Of course she had to go. He could try to argue with her, should try to argue with her because it was madness to go running back to a town with a serial killer who had personally invited you, but she had family and friends there, and he knew before the words would even leave his mouth that it was useless. That was why the plans came first. "We're both insane for this, for the record," he started, because it needed to be said, but he crossed the room to sit down with her on the couch, taking the phone from her hands because he needed her actual full attention. "You shouldn't go anywhere near that situation because this?" He held up the phone for emphasis, then set it on the coffee table. "This is bait. Whoever it is this time either doesn't know where you are or can't get at you here, so he's going to lure you back there where he thinks he has an advantage. If you think I'm going to sit back here and 'be safe' while you walk into that, you're dreaming, Sid," he told her, cracking the smallest of smiles at the end. Did he hate it? Oh yes, he absolutely despised everything about this and it made his stomach a little sick to think about. This was everything that he knew, as a cop, was stupid and should be prevented. The problem was that Sidney was going to go regardless of what he thought about that, and so was he because everyone else in that damn town was a suspect. He would go because Sidney needed one person that she absolutely knew, without a doubt, she could trust.

her first real boyfriend , the first boy that she ever loved , had been psychotic. sure , dozens upon dozens of girls would say those words about their ex boyfriends , and they'd believe it too , but Sidney's first truly was insane. she'd slept with him on the year anniversary of him killing her mother , during a three day period where he murdered many of her friends and his end goal had been her life. the man had been psychotic. it had left her with severe trust issues , paranoia , and PTSD. she'd waited two years before trying to date again , and in the end she'd proved that she'd never really trusted him either.

but Mark was so incredibly different. even with her paranoia , he'd been the other half of her. paranoid when she wasn't , laid back when she couldn't be. his hands holding hers was enough to calm her heart , which at first had been a red flag to her but after years of being together , it was exactly what she needed.

she thought about many different retorts for his announcement , fully agreeing that they both were insane for willingly going back to Woodsboro , but in the end she just kept her mouth shut. @starsinshadows was right , he knew he was right , nothing she could say would emphasize that more than just the nod of her head.

her hands clenched his , holding on for dear life as if she were drowning and his touch would bring her right back to the surface. she looked from his face down to her white knuckles and back , swallowing hard as she nodded in agreement. " it is bait , i know it is..... " she let her voice trail off for a moment as he mind went from the sleeping girls upstairs to Dewey and Gale , to the entire town of Woodsboro , to Tara and Sam. " but i can't sit here and wait around to find out who died because i wasn't there to stop it. i just can't. "

thin lips press together as recognition washes over her. it's never a surprise , but it always steals her breath away ― the voice that haunts her nightmares , the ones that come when she's asleep and the ones that come when she's still awake.

" what do you want? " she asks , knowing what the answer will be. they've done this dance before , but still those are the only words she can think to say to them.

“I wanna talk to you, Sidney. I've thought about you so much since we last saw eachother.” He mourns this with his tone — like a sad tilt of the head, or a flit of the eyes, saved only for when convenient. Sidney, Sidney, Sidney. The years go by but she will always be something he feels drawn to; that's how Billy had been.

“You missed me, didn't you? I gave you all that fame, after all. You wouldn't be a survivor without something to survive from. What pretty little place have you gotten with all that blood money?”

fear and anxiety fill her lungs , replacing the breath that she'd been holding. her right hand held the phone against her ear as the left clenched into a fist. she wanted so badly to be rid of @yrghostie , to be normal for once in her entire adult life , but she wasn't allowed that luxury.

" all the fame you gave me isn't appreciated. " she spoke through gritted teeth , fear mixing with anger now. " i didn't ask for any of this , and the fact that you'd actually ask if i missed you ― " she paused then , spitting out a venomous laugh.

swallowing hard , Sidney straightened her back and squared her shoulders. she had been so afraid of him for so long , but enough was enough. she wasn't a victim. " i'm not the one who's obsessed. i'm just wondering when you're going to move on , this shit is getting old. "

FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL DAY , the brunette finally felt relaxed. the house was clean , the last load of laundry was in the washer , the doors were locked and her sweet boy had finally drifted off to sleep. everything was going right , for a change. normally when this happened the pessimist would come out and remind her that nothing lasts forever and things don’t usually go her way , but it seemed as if the pessimist was taking the night off.

the water was just the way she liked it , almost too hot to handle. the tub was filled with bubbles and essential oils , and there was a tall glass of red wine positioned on the table next to her. all of these things alone would have made her happy , but none of it was the real reason for her relaxation. it was the fingers , thick and calloused but very carefully massaging shampoo into her hair as if he were a professional. the feeling sent chills down her back and brought her nipples to a hardened point. she was leaning forward with her chest against her thighs and her arms wrapped around her legs , so she was sure that @antisupe couldn’t actually see the effect he was having on her , but even so. the soft sounds as she relaxed to his touch might have been enough to clue him in on how she was feeling. after a moment , she turned her head to look at him. she’d never imagined feeling the way she did , especially about someone like leon , but life was full of surprises. she still held her body against her legs , attempting feigned modesty although it wouldn’t be the first time she’d allowed leon to see all of her. “ does this mean you’ll let me wash your hair too , then? “

things used to very rarely fall into place with him,   like the universe thought it was hilarious.  and then nights like these happen;  nights of which he’s uncertain even have a place to exist in his life. the misery in his life had always been a clear cut line,  severing more and more with the empathy he could express.  it seemed like the same tensions could be said about the woman,  naked within the bath before him.  while leon doesn’t want to claim that they’re completely alike,  they do however have a shared mutual protection over someone:  his grandson ryan.  not that it had been anything more between them but time with grandson, he didn’t exactly feel the chill of unwelcomeness but the warmth when realization that he nearly nothing like his son,  really was something.

being with her was as easy as breathing,   nothing felt super awkward anymore.  one quick sip of his own glass of wine before setting it down next to hers on the table. there was nothing to what remained to his body save for the suit pants and the helmet that still rests comfortably on his head.  fingerless crimson gloves had been removed in favor of lathering shampoo onto the expanse of his palms.  he carded calloused digits through chestnut locks, massaging into her scalp gently as he went.  despite outward appearances and how sometimes his words carried from him,  he had the tendency of leaning towards the nature of a service top----  bringing them pleasure was on the same level as his own pleasure.

@deathb1ooms made all the best sounds and they hadn’t even really gotten to the best part of the night. they traveled straight down south for him causing ever more focus in the ability of the way his fingers repeatedly massaged into her scalp until he’s certain every bit of her beautiful head had been thoroughly pleasured.  with the bubbles and oils within the bath,  the faucet had to be turned on if only to fill a cup to remove the suds from her hair.  one hand shielded her eyes as the other poured water atop her head.

almost satisfied with his progress,  and the last stretch of shampoo left in her hair,  unrinsed.   free hand pulled away as she turned to meet his malachites,   half a point to,    I’m not done yet, but the words don’t quite make it to his tongue,  instead just kept his hands at bay,  gracing her with the upturn of his lips.  they all but danced in amusement at the fact that half her hair was still covered in the white suds of the shampoo. the question doesn’t particularly catch him off-guard but it’s then that he realized he hasn’t taken his helmet off a lot around her---  doesn’t give himself any true inkling as to why,   however, he did exhale a breath,  slow and steady,  sitting back upon his heels just outside the tub,

head cocked,  genuinely curiosity rings in his voice,   “  do you want to wash my hair?  ”    not an answer but another posed question;    he wasn’t doing what he was doing because he expected her to return it.    he pulled his arm back now resting  his hand on the edge of the tub.... to rest his chin atop his hand,  “  be kinda hard to do from our positions. ”

how was it that their locking gaze would make her heart speed up and slow down at the same time? she didn't understand it , and wouldn't even try to make sense of it in her head. she was too busy staring at him. the way his eyes seemed to see right through her , to know parts of her that she didn't know how to reveal. the way his features almost softened when he looked at her , when he moved to rest his chin against the edge of her tub. he wasn't handsome like a woman might refer to her son , he wasn't gorgeous like a school girl might call her crush. he was alluring , enticing even. he was a temptation that she should have been afraid of , if she'd had a moment to think clearly.

she watched his face for a long minute , just taking in the weight of his eyes on her. she'd been self conscious moments before , careful not to expose herself too fast , and part of that was still there but it wasn't the only feeling anymore.

she pulled her arm from beneath the surface of the water , noting how her skin was slightly reddened from the heat of the water. droplets fell from her fingertips as she reached toward him , her movements slow yet steady the way you might approach an animal you weren't sure would allow you to pet it. she knew he would allow her to touch him , but still she was careful with him. too many people in his life had hurt him , had asked for trust and then burned it all down. Becca wasn't about to trigger those feelings.

when she finally reached him , she caressed his cheek with the back of her hand , one corner of her mouth turning up into a half smile at the scratchy feel of his facial hair on her skin. tilting her head up , the brunette allowed her expression to spread into a full smile. " of course i do. " her brows furrowed slightly at the thought of him taking care of her in this way , but not allowing her to return the favor. she knew he didn't expect it of her , but she wanted to make him feel the way that he'd been making her feel. releasing her other arm from around her legs , Becca reminded herself that he'd seen her fully nude before before stretching her legs out and turning over to sit on her knees in the bathtub. with the extra height , her breasts were completely exposed above the water and that was okay. she wouldn't let herself be self conscious. " i guess that means you'll have to lose the helmet and get in. " she shrugged , tilting her head to the side. " i think there is enough room for both of us. "

she didn't even have to turn around to know who would be standing there , she could recognize the voice anywhere. Donna hadn't expected a visit like this during her gallery showcase , and that was honestly her first mistake. her identity was mostly secret , but it wasn't hard to put two and two together. it wasn't as if the amazon wore a mask as Wonder Woman. anyone with a villain label could see the similarities.

slowly and deliberately , the wonder inhaled a steadying breath before half turning to face @hiredassault. her lips were pressed into a thin line as she looked at him , taking the entire picture in before stepping beside him and looking up at one of the photograph clusters on display.

to anyone else , the station seemed so quiet. to Natalia , however , the sounds were almost too overwhelming. her heels clicking against the concrete , the soft static sounds of the fluorescent lights overhead as they flickered off and on , the soft shuffling of the announcement board unable to settle on one language. she could tell that the board was malfunctioning because part of a word would be in Japanese , but the second half would be in Russian or Czech even. there was something unsettling about the entire situation.

despite her unease , the redhead knew that she was in good hands. without moving an inch , she knew that @starsinshadows was within arms length of her and would protect her from anything that came their way. her obvious red hair was covered with a scarf and her collar was turned up , as if that would stop fans from recognizing her somehow , but it made him feel better so she did it.

pressing her lips together , Natalia moved over to James and reached out to brush his forearm. there were a few people in the station with them , but no one seemed to notice them at all. " do you feel that? " she asked him , her eyes widening slightly. " this place is weird. "

her left hand reached up , pushing the hair from her eyes as she tried to catch her breath. Claire hadn't really expected her day to go this way either , but she'd forgotten all about her plans the second a dead person stood up and started chasing her. there wasn't time to sulk , only time to act. her life literally depended on it.

after a moment , Claire turned toward @taissakingston and laughed. " yeah , you're telling me. i came here just to look for my brother and found this. " she gestured toward the rotting corpses on the other side of the fence. it seemed to be holding , for now , but she knew that wouldn't last. "

furrowing her brow , the brunette sucked a deep breath in before looking over at her companion. " are you good? are you going to be able to keep moving? i don't have a lot of faith in that chain link fence. "

the familiar heavy weight of the shotgun in her hands felt good as she moved around the dark woods , one foot in front of the other , careful not to make a sound. any slight sound coming from her , a twig snapping or leaves rustling beneath her boots , might disturb the monster or even worse might tell the monster where it could find a young girl exploring the woods by herself. despite knowing that Jonathan was just a few yards away from her , and would come running at the sound of distress , Nancy was still more or less alone. Jonathan could take the werewolf out , sure , but not before Nancy had to say goodbye to normalcy.

the thought made her shoulders shiver and her mouth run dry. she didn't like thinking about that scenario , she knew that was a death sentence.

her mind cleared of those thoughts , however , when she stumbled upon several items hanging from a group of trees. they were little stick figures that almost looked like homemade dolls , all arranged in a circle. her heart began to race as she moved slightly closer , careful not to step into the circle created by the symbols. " she held her eyes abnormally wide , a futile attempt to not allow herself to cry. it was an old habit , one that she was sure @compendiumofconstellations would recognize , but she couldn't bring herself to care. he knew her inside and out , there was no changing that , so what would be the point of trying to pretend now. " it's about you too , Billy. "

she pressed her lips together , eyes burning even more now as she knew she was losing the battle here. " i love you , but he's my son. i needed you to realize that he was a person , not just a supe. "

" i'm sorry i didn't tell you about this.... " her fingers moved to graze the scar on her neck , the scar that Ryan had given her months before. both her husband and her son had believed she'd been dead for months while she recuperated and learned how to use her ability better. it had been her idea not to reveal the truth to Butcher. " i am just doing what i think is best. can you understand that? "

Things changed, that much was obvious with a short walk through the Barrel on any given day what with the constant motion and often harsh nature of life there. A busy city was in flux at all times with shifting loyalties, politics, economics and everything that those factors so drastically affected, but there were a few things that didn't change. Kaz Brekker was one of those things, at least on the surface. There was a new sense of loss about him that was a fresher wound, bittersweet and hidden beneath the very real and pressing concerns of being a Barrel boss - specifically one as brutal and precise as he was, with his schemes and priorities taking up his attention most of the time.

Most of the time, because even with Inej gone out to sea on her righteous mission, his traitorous, selfish thoughts turned to her at any excuse they were given; the light would come in his window in just the right way and he'd remember her seated there feeding the crows outside, or a slip of darkness would feel just right to hide her. Sometimes a snatch of conversation about saints would catch his attention and he'd practically hear her voice in his ears, chastising him for his lack of faith. He'd take her scolding and her saints if it meant that he was here, listening to her.

Instead, he was listening to Dregs laughing and boasting, celebrating a good night as he broke away from a young man who'd had too much to drink and too many delusions of a 'huge score' - he'd already been followed down the street and across the foyer of the Slat, so it made the stairs his preferred target rather than his office, mostly because he'd be knocking the fool down the stairs if he was tailed any further. Suffice to say that his mood was not the best when he stopped, pressed the head of his cane to the man's chest to stop him with a sharp look and then started up the stairs in his uneven gait.

The damp and cold in the air was bothering his leg more than usual, so the trip up the three flights was a task in itself, but he could trust that he'd be left alone in his private quarters. There was only one person who had the habit of finding him there, and the last he'd heard from her, she was sailing the True Sea. He would have no company except the crows outside his window and perhaps some hot water - or so he thought. The door was shut and he'd made it halfway across the room before he stopped, stiffening. A smile very nearly flittered across his lips, but he halted it. "You nearly had me."

it was only fifteen minutes after she'd climbed through the window that Inej began to hear the familiar thump thump sound of his cane. even after being gone for months , she could recognize the affects of a long day in his movements , the way he leaned harder into his cane as he pulled himself up the many stairs. part of her was disappointed that he'd come home so quickly , she hadn't had time to really think about what she wanted to say to @starsinshadows , but another part of her was so excited to see him.

it had been months since she'd left Ketterdam , left Kaz , but every day had been spent thinking about him. she could remember every single line in his face , the way his brow furrowed when he thought too hard , the way his leather clad hands curled when he was angry or frustrated. the memory of him , mixed with the knowledge that he was moments from throwing the door open , sent adrenaline through her veins. she knew how she felt about the man , even if she wasn't about to admit it to herself , Kaz , or even the saints.

she stood in one of her favorite shadows , watching as he moved through the dark room. she wondered if he looked for her at first , wondering if or when she would come back. she wondered if he even cared. was she still his wraith or had he found another spider to do his bidding?

the sound of his voice stirred something deep inside her , and for a moment Inej thanked the saints that his night vision wasn't as good as hers. she blinked quickly three times , smoothing her expression , before taking a small step out of the shadow so that he could see her face. " clearly i wasn't gone long enough to catch you off guard. "

once out of the shadow , Inej made it a point to stop three feet away from him. her hands hung down at her sides , itching for an idea of what to do. she wouldn't admit that she wanted to be near him , that part of her had actually missed him. she couldn't do it unless he gave some indication that she wasn't the only one , and could he do that? would he?

the faint scent of burnt popcorn still lingered in the air throughout her living room , but she wasn't bothered by it. Ryan had tried to make popcorn by himself , a treat they could share with Leon while they watched the newest addition to the seven series , something about sevening with a vengeance. they'd made it through about a half hour of the movie before Ryan had fallen asleep between them on the couch.

Becca wasn't actually watching the movie , she wasn't interested in anything else Vought put out least of all a movie where her former husband came back from the dead and the seven were forced into a zombie apocalypse. the only reason she was staring at the television screen was because she didn't want to be caught staring at @antisupe.

when the credits finally began to roll on the screen , Becca forced herself to turn toward the man sitting on the other side of her son. " do you have to go? early morning things or? " she pursed her lips after speaking , wishing she wasn't so awkward around him. something about Leon brought out the awkward teenager in her , the girl who didn't know how to speak to a man she was interested in.
