peter - taylor swift
and for the lady, perhaps a fking break?
it's been almost two years but it still strikes me how taylor almost assuredly wrote the manuscript knowing at least partially that she would close the eras tour with it. like the last time i will perform on this stage. the last time i let these pieces of my past be who i am. the last time i let myself repeat the cycle. i no longer revere the heartbreak. it's not romantic, it's not tragic, it's not nostalgic, it's not beautiful, and it just is. i reread it and rewrote it and recontextualized it and repeated it and remembered it and revisited it and reclaimed it and redesigned it and there's nothing else to do but release it. the only thing that's left is the manuscript. but the story isn't mine anymore.
taylor saying that going to the bar with the rock is a “girls’ night out”
This album makes me wish I didn’t speak English
I think someone is trying to spell out the title of TS12:
- D
- I
…diamonds?
Turns out it was “dick”
Besties when is it ok to start asking for Rep TV vault? 😅
Not TN using “So It Goes” as audio for the cardigan—
All eyes on us
👀
You stand with your hand on my waistline
It's a scene, and we're out here in plain sight
I can hear them whisper as we pass by
It's a bad sign, bad sign
Somethin' happens when everybody finds out
See the vultures circling, dark clouds
Love's a fragile little flame, it could burn out
It could burn out
'Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes
And guns
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
Baby, I know places we won't be found, and
They'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down
'Cause I, I know places we can hide
Yeah, these two are in true, genuine love with each other. Totally. Brand Taylor and private, writer Taylor are totally the same person.
“They got the boxes” always makes me think of how people would be quick to label her. In fact, they already do: “straightest woman who ever lived”
Don't Blame Me is like oh its a sin for me to love you but I don't care because this new type of love is worth whatever the price even though people will see me as a dirty sinner I don't care as long I'm your daisy........... random blonde man
And she sampled the music from Karlie’s commercial in it…
Nothing in this world is certain but Taylor Swift putting out countdowns that lead to hot photos of herself (or in this case: 3 seconds clips)
Just some ideas i had abt the vinyl variant covers!
“please tell them my name” girl i never shut up about u
Gaylors to the haters who bullied them if/when the truth (if not Taylor herself) comes out:
thinking about the overarching theme of ttpd being “the story isn’t mine anymore”. obviously there’s the traditional reading of this line (she gives up ownership of her past heartbreaks to those who made her songs their own) but in light of but daddy i love him, who’s afraid of little old me, clara bow, how did it end? (and a few others but we’d been here all day), it’s got some other meanings.
bdilh is an attempt to claim her story and her relationship for herself. she very stubbornly refuses to let people define what she has with this person, because this story is HERS and SHE DOESNT WANNA SHARE! this is interesting in light of other songs i’ll discuss later, which do involve people successfully defining things for her life, without her permission. sometimes she’s stubborn like she is here, sometimes she’ll be resigned.
meanwhile who’s afraid of little old me processes the fallout from people trying to write her story for her. they’re lying about who she is, manipulating reality, but she calls their bluff and says “okay. you’re right. i am awful! are you scared?” here, the story was never hers; it was written against her will.
clara bow my haunting beloved. by placing herself in the line of famous musicians who have come before her, she is stripping herself of her uniqueness. it’s a commentary on what fame does to women: it makes them disposable, only beloved until there’s a newer model out there. (people do love an ingénue, after all.) her personal story of her rise to fame and success and failure fades into the background. it’s not hers anymore. she is name on a list.
how did it end? is such an interesting song to me because it tells two stories: 1) a person in heavy grief trying to figure out how this major relationship ended, and 2) the general public putting together the supposed easter eggs and lyrics and hints to figure out how this private relationship collapsed. #1 should be the only focus of the song and in her life. she should be able to process her heartbreak in peace without prying eyes, but the story of her broken heart is not just hers. it’s everyone’s, because they made it so. again, without her consent.
when the manuscript relinquishes her story to the audience, i think it’s worth wondering how much of it she really wanted to give, and how much we demanded nonetheless.
So no-one was going to tell me that Karlie made an appearance on Gossip Girl and I had to find out while I was watching it with dinner and almost choke on said dinner?
