Ok, here's this big post I've been mentioning... I struggle with social anxiety, depression, and panic disorder. When I was younger, I used to cope by cutting myself. I would pull apart shaving razors so no one would notice I had a secret sharp thing. Once I wasn't living at home anymore, I graduated to sharper more harmful items, but always in the same place. I know some self harm is a cry for help, but I was using it as a secret coping mechanism. I did it for years and hid it, lying the scars away whenever someone noticed. I still have all of these mental illnesses, but I stopped cutting a long time ago. Several wonderful therapists helped me overcome self harm and now I cope in healthy ways. I lived with the shame of these scars for years while I was hurting myself, and the shame probably worsened once I stopped and had a mass of inexplainable scar tissue on my right thigh. So I decided to get a tattoo to cover it, and started looking for designs. When I saw the cover of issue 30 of Saga by Brian K Vaughan, I knew that flower was it. Something inside me just KNEW. They didn't explain until several issues later, but the flower is called a "Violent" that blooms in the wake of bloodshed. As for the little seal in yellow overalls, his name is Ghüs and he's my favorite character. He is cute and tiny and a reminder to be heroic no matter your size. So thank you @fionastaples, for your art, and thank you BKV for your story. I will carry it on my skin proudly for the rest of my life.

My boyfriend and I are fighting over our Halloween costumes. Do we go as Finn and Marceline, or Fionna and Marshall Lee? Unfortunately, he isn't much of a costumer so I got to do the Marshall Lee costume test. Yes, the wig needs more work 😆

Pretty Deadly Photoshoot with JwaiDesign

Immediately after reading Pretty Deadly, Ashley Hay and I fell in love with the poetic story by Kelly Sue DeConnick, and otherworldly visuals from the talented Emma Ríos. Planning a photoshoot was soon underway, although it would be nearly a year before we suited up as Alice and Ginny (with incredible makeup by KeltonFX) and drove hours out to the Salton Sea in southern California to shoot with the talented JwaiDesign.

We wanted to tell a story through the photos, culminating in Alice’s death in an explosion of butterflies (a practical effect via a fishing line harness), capturing exactly what makes the book so unique - finding beauty in death. I also now own a taxidermy rabbit skeleton, used for a single shot. Totally worth it.

Again, swore I wouldn’t make the huge post until this healed, but I love how it looks freshly cleaned after taking my bandage off. This tattoo is to cover self harm scarring, and I actually kinda dig that you can see my scars on my angry skin right now.

When this puppy is healed I’ll make a fresh, in detail post about why self harm, why this tattoo, and I’ll be submitting it to @fionastaples for Saga backmatter.

you know what’s really genuinely unsettling? the degree to which men fucking do not want to sympathize with/be interested in women.

male audiences will happily watch a dozen superhero shows, but then something like Agent Carter or Supergirl turn up and they’re panned from the first trailer and have to struggle for ratings. male audiences will watch countless installments of a franchise as long as it’s about men doing man things but the second a character like Rey or Furiosa or god forbid four entire female Ghostbusters steps up and takes a position of prominence it’s “pandering sjw bullshit”.

it’s not pandering. men just aggressively don’t want to have to be invested in a woman’s narrative and it’s really gross.

In case anyone was wondering, THIS is why Ghostbusters was a financial disappointment. Not because it was bad-because it wasn’t-but because men are fucking awful lmao.
