Wellā¦ā¦.I hope that if you like Greyhounds that you choose to buy one soon, because the breed as we know it is soon to be only in history.
Tonight Florida voted to prevent an entire breed of dog from doing the one thing that makes their blood sing. The one thing that inherently brings them joy. The one thing that speaks to the genes that they carry forward with them from ancestors long since passed.
Tonight Florida voted to ban Greyhound racing. 13 of the 18 tracks in the US are in Florida. This will effectively eliminate the industry.
An estimated 8,000 dogs are going to be in need of new homes. Hundreds of generations of careful breeding dedicated to genetic diversity and creating a pinnacle athlete have now been marked for extinction by mobs of ignorant people that donāt have any idea what they just voted for. These dogs will be sold through rescue, and they will be altered. The Greyhounds that will be available in the future will be produced with a very different end goal in mind. This is the end of the NGA Greyhound. That dog that so many of us recognize as being excellent family pets, stunning athletes, and beautiful animals that are reliably stable in temperament and notoriously easy to live with. If they were so horribly abused at the track, why are so many of them so well adjusted in their life post racing?
My heart hurts.
This is a dark day for Greyhounds. This is a dark day for dogsā¦..and the people who really love them. :-(
Yup. And then some jackasses in FB who think this is a good change are reblogging a picture of a fat greyhound with wordsĀ āVictory! Floridians vote to end of greyhound racing.ā top of it.
Gloomy afternoon.
Astro, Tekken and Surma.
I had an amazing weekend with these fellas (- Senorita who was sleeping at the time). We had couple of problems here and there but otherwise great time and lot of hiking.
Prettiest girl in the world.
She loses her coat in weird places...
ā:Dā Every time I have long break from training and I get back to it again I have forgotten that I actually need to think and not just do. Well, this is the starting point anyway! I have no idea where my head was while training her probably far up in my ass because Iām doing everything wrong and itās affecting Surma a lot. Iām glad that she reminded me to focus trying to steal the toy... didnāt help much, though šš. Iām so glad the weather is so nice out already, canāt wait start training again! I have already so many plans for this season so I can hardly wait where it will take us. By the way, did you guys see those returns? She has improved SO MUCH! Before this she couldnāt do long distance returns at all because she wasnāt confident at all of the place. Now sheās fast a AND the placement is right in front of me with nice distance! Now I just have to bring the dumbbell in to it!
I am so sorry about all the things wich are happening š. You are going trough much and please keep in mind how strong you are even you maybe do not feel it. I send you all the love ā¤.
Iām doing ok now. Senjo is still a bit ill but everything is probably going to turn out alright in the end. ā¤ļø
This is Surmaās behavioral profile based on the research group of Hannes Lohi behavioral questionnaire, which has been answered by more than 13,000 dogs. 97 tervuren has been in the study. All dogs counted regardless of breed 13,566. The blue color is Surmaās result. Grey color means they couldnāt place Surma to any group (such as seen in Noise phobia).
Edit. I think the fear of surfaces has been set wrong for Surma though. I am going to contact the research group and give more insight of Surmaās behavior and ask them what they thought about Surma from my given answers. I wonder why they chose to put her inĀ ārarelyā category instead of sometimes or often because I donāt think sheās that confident about surfaces and easily falters.
I wish I could talk freely about whatās been going on in Belgian Shepherd community and the breed itself around my region + eu. All I can say is that I am truly disappointed at some breeders.
However, thereās couple of interesting litters happening this year though. Another thing I hope to change is that weāre able to solve some issues regards of health tests and have better contact with an army and police in regards of dogs health and breeding material.
Groenendaels might actually get lot better in <10-25 years. Iām quite excited for the breed while I know thereās lot of issues, and some breeders wonāt do but harm for now and in future... Iām just really glad that there are lot of passionate breeders now and I hope that some trainers will give Groenendaels a chance so the puppies will go to a home that can show what the pups are capable of and help the breeder by health testing etc. We will see how many of the puppies of these interesting litters will get a place with a decoy, though... Iām hoping at least couple would but that might be hoping for a miracle.
Hey Iām so very sorry your health isnāt great at the moment but Iām so glad your leg is starting to get better! I really enjoy seeing you in my dash, you always being great insight and perspective, I hope you and the dogs love your holiday!
I havenāt been active for multiple reasons but i will start to post again now after a loooong break from tumblr! Thank you for being patient with me and itās always nice to know that my posts are appreciated. My reason for being here all along was to educate myself and share my insight for everyone around me⦠I have always felt like talking and sharing information to other dogblr is the best way to enjoy this place. I have missed posting here a lot <3
Also, my leg is still stiff. Thereās some long lasting damage but it has been pretty alright for some time now... I just can not do heavy lifting or intense sports... which sucks but I truly hope it will get better before Spring.
How are you all doing? It has been awhile you have since saw me. Howās your dogs? Anyone got puppies or new hobbies while I was gone?
Iām going to give good news first. Surma is taking her BH test later this year!
Bad news. She is dog reactive these days. So i got new things to work out for but Surmaās over all heeling and working is enough for me to go to BH test now and the reactive behavior doesnāt affect her performance (just normal walks and life). Itās not perfect but I have still about half a year, maybe even a bit more to get her ready :)
I have not done any training videos on youtube because it has been really cold in Finland for awhile ow and I donāt want to break my camera/phone. I will get back to it when the Spring takes over if anyoneās looking forward to it? I mean I am probably not going to upload anything if thereās no one to watch them anyway.
Ā And then, Iām going to South Africa next month! I was thinking of bringing a puppy from there to Finland but decided against it because Senjo has been sick lately and Iām trying to work it out. I might meet with one breeder though if Iāve got enough time for it.
Iām enjoying our winter holiday in Northern Savonia. Senjo and Surru are doing well but my leg is still very much swollen. I wonder when itās going to heal fully...
