We're so excited about the World Cup here at De Buck Gallery!
New York, New York- Attenborough Naftel is pleased to announce our new installation entitled Yard Sale at De Buck Gallery, on view throughout the summer of 2014. The installation will open with a reception on June 19, 2014 from 6-8 PM. Attenborough-Naftel are known for their interventionist installations and events held throughout the United States and Ireland. Yard Sale represents their first collaboration with De Buck Gallery, and will feature a room-scale installation resembling the all-American ideal of a yard sale, adapted for a Chelsea gallery. Attenborough-Naftel's DIY aesthetic supports and celebrates the desire to gather and play. Like their past work, Yard Sale appropriates the visual cues from this summertime event and encourages the audience to transcend from merely a viewer, and become an active participant. Yard Sale will function much as it's traditional namesake, selling the wares by gallery artists including Zevs, Kelly Reemtsen, Ruby Anemic, Hans Kotter and Mahmoud Hamadani, as well as numerous ephemera from previous Attenborough Naftel installations. #dbgshop #onclickcollector #yardsale #debuckgallery

We are very excited to announce an upcoming exhibition by New York-based sculptor John Clement, entitled Fireflies. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery from June 12 to July 25, 2014, with an opening reception on June 12 from 6-8 PM, which the artist is scheduled to attend. Fireflies marks Clement’s first solo exhibition at De Buck Gallery.
John Clement’s artistic language, which entails a spirited geometry of curving forms and gaping voids, embodies an evolving interest in capturing and interacting with both viewers and the environment which has been a cornerstone of the artist’s work since the 1990s. For Fireflies, Clement has created a large-scale site-specific installation for De Buck Gallery, bringing what would typically be an outdoor, public work into the white cube of the gallery space. Juxtaposed with small and medium scale sculptures, the exhibition provides a compelling overview of the transformation of Clement’s vocabulary through size, scale, color and shape. Installed together, the effortless and endless variation of curves and negative space on multiple planes seen throughout Clement’s works implore further exploration on the part of the viewer. In the artist’s hands, the thick tubes of steel with which he works seem weightless and even mobile, molding the perception of the surrounding space.
Born in New York in 1969, John Clement discovered sculpture while working in the tool room at the School of Visual Arts after graduating with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992. A student of prominent public sculptors Mark di Suvero and John Henry, Clement’s work has been exhibited and installed worldwide, including recent installations at the Garrison Art Center (Garrison, NY), Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA), Elon University (Elon, NC), and the Frost Art Museum (Miami, FL). He is also represented in a number of permanent collections including the Heckscher Museum (Huntington, NY) and the public art collection of the city of Long Beach, CA. John Clement currently lives and works in New York City.

John Clement For over a decade John Clement has been focusing on public sculpture and translating public works into tabletop sculptures. His artistic language equally focuses on swift organic lines and the negative space between them. The interlocking coils and arcs of painted steel create a dynamic energy that draws viewers into the work, and invites interaction in the public realm. The effortless and endless variation of curves and open air on multiple planes create varying perspectives of space, whether they are large-scale installations or tabletop sculptures. The playful forms seem to, on their own volition, come alive and swivel on their bases and spin about in space. Clement’s sculptures speak of imagination and exploration, and pay tribute to our creative intuition.
