This is a blog for everyone that isn't ready to let go of Deception and all of its wonderful characters. Where anyone can talk about this fantastic show, and make your own contributions! My inbox is always open, for thoughts or prompts or conversation starters. ABC might have cancelled Deception, and it might not be picked up by anyone else. But if that's the case, then this show belongs to us, now. We can give it a better life than anyone else could. That's what I want to do with this blog, because these characters deserve that much <3
A multi-chapter gift for @deceptionheadcanons based off of one of her wonderful fanfictions.
If you have not read her fanfiction Before and After⦠what are doing with your life? Go read it, youāll⦠well, if youāre looking for fluff, you wonāt thank me but if youāre looking for angst, go and behold that fanfiction!
I love Deception and I absolutely love writing for it. I love these characters and their dynamics and honestly donāt think I will ever love another showās relationships as much as I loved Deceptionās. But writing so much and getting so little in return is getting too difficult for me. Iām already not in the best of mental spots. Continuously working so hard and getting next to nothing back is making it worse. Iāve given it some time, Iāve tried to reach out but thereās just been nothing. Which I should have figured would happen eventually.
I love and thank the people that did support me and have been supporting me. You few are the reason I stuck with it for so long. I donāt know if Iāll change and write for Prodigal Son, I donāt know if Iāll drop writing entirely for a little bit. I donāt know if Iāll randomly drop in for drabble or two just to remember this beautiful show. But with the way things have been going for ages now, I just cannot keep pouring so much energy and love into something that doesnāt end up making me feel as though I did a good job. I have one or two chapters left of Before and After, so Iāll finish that. But Iām trashing the first chapter of a new fic I was going to start.
I loved writing for Deception. I loved the fandom and the support when it was here. Iāve written some of my best works for this fandom and I hope theyāll stick with at least a couple people. Thank you for reading my writing up to now.
2 for Cam from the whump dialogue list !! (If you want that is!)
This is such a late response but Iām just now getting around to doing these because I donāt know how function as a human being, thank you so much for this request and I hope itās halfway decent!
āI- I canāt see! I canāt see anything!ā
It was trap. Kay should have known it wouldnāt be this easy. The building didnāt have a single person in it; theyād walked right in. And the place was too clean. Too picked up, too abandoned. She was the agent, she was supposed to be thinking about these things. Not that Cameron wasnāt thinking on his feet just as much as she was, but heād had less experience. She should have seen these signs and realized there was something wrong. But she didnātā she was too focused on the end goal.
Which means that everything that happened afterwards was her fault.
They were searching the warehouse, trying to find evidence that this was indeed the location their terrorist group was using as their hideout. They were trying to find evidence of plans, of weapons, of discussions or possible identities, even. Anything they could garnerā¦theyād been closing in on this group for the past week and they were nearly certain this was the building in question. If not, they had to claim yet another failed search. Itād join a very populated list. By this point, the sheer frustration was making her impatient. That added on another layer. That helped to distract her, too.
Cameron had been the one to set off the trip wire. He had been walking farther down the hall; sheād stopped to see if she could check in with Mike over the radio. The first thing she heard was his yelp and stumble. She looked down the hall in just enough time to see him straighten up again and recover. The second he started to turn around and look at her though, there was suddenly a loud hissing noise. They both stiffened and whirled around to see a cloud of gas start flooding the halls. It was coming from everywhereā from under the doors and from the air vents, the smoke-like cloud was rolling in like fog. It swarmed so fast, she barely had time to see Cameronās eyes, huge with shock and terror, lock with hers before the smoke was obscuring him from view.
Kay stumbled backwards, sucking in a sharp breath to try and yell out to him. āCaā!ā She broke off in a hacking cough as her throat suddenly started to burn. āCamā ā¦get out!ā It was all she could choke out. She wanted to tell him not to breathe in, she wanted to tell him to close his eyes and cover his nose; she wanted him to run to her so she could grab his hand and they could stay together. But she couldnāt breathe in the smoke. She had to just hope he knew. She screwed her eyes shut tight and rushed down the hall towards where heād been, feeling with her free arm blindly, struggling to find him. She couldnāt feel him.
Her lungs were burning already. She forced herself to use air she didnāt have and scream one last time: āCameron!ā There wasnāt a response. She could hear him coughing and hacking. She ran towards the sound and briefly, she found a sleeve. She grabbed on and tugged him hard. Her fingers slipped and she fell away from him, and when she tried to grab him again, all she found was empty air. She had no idea where heād goneā she could hear him coughing still and she kept trying to grab out towards the noise, but she always failed. Her lungs were burning more and more. Everything in her wanted to breathe; she knew she couldnāt. But she was getting desperate. She had to go.
Everything in her was wanting to make absolutely sure he was following her, but after a couple more seconds of floundering blind, she turned and started to stumble back down the hall, running for where she thought she remembered the exit being. She had pulled Cameron in this direction. Hopefully he had the foresight to run back, too, and follow her. She could still hear him coughingā that meant he was behind her, right? That meant he was trying to get out too?
She felt along the wall, since she couldnāt see. She struggled to push down her panic and retrace their steps. Every so often she was forced to take in a breath and suffer the consequences of the pain and coughing just to get the tiniest bit of oxygen again. She wasnāt sure what kind of toxin it was in the smoke but whatever it was, she couldnāt wait around in it. She ran as fast as she could and thankfully it only took her a little more than a minute or so to stumble into the door. She felt blindly for the handle and shoved her entire body against it. She broke out into the fresh air but still forced herself to hold her breath as she half-sprinted, half-fell as far away from the warehouse as she could.
She ran a few yards before her knees gave out from under her. She collapsed, finally sucking in as deep a breath as she could. Her lungs burned even more when she finally got the air she needed; she started to choke and hack, struggling to get everything out. She was dizzy and her fingers were tingling. For a couple minutes all she could do was crouch on the ground, coughing and spluttering hard. Her throat stayed hurting, but eventually she got her ability to breathe back, even if it was still with an audible wheeze. Feeling started to return to her fingers and legs. She started to calm down.
But her relief was short-lived when she realized she was alone.
Her head snapped up, and she whirled around. The door to the warehouse was still openā the fog that had been set up to go off was still spilling out into the air a little bit, clearing out of the building little by little bit. Cameron wasnāt with her. Was he still inside!? She shoved herself up to her feet, staggering a little as her head spun. Her voice cracked against her throat when she yelled: āCameron!?ā She waited for an answer, but there wasnāt one. Her heart started to pound against her chest. She screamed louder, her voice cracking in half this time. āCAMERON!ā
Still, nothing.
She started to breathe faster, waiting tensely. Any second now, surely he was going to run out of the warehouse just like she had? But no. A minute passed, and then another one, and there was still nothing. The smoke was dissipatingā¦there was probably still toxins in the air, but eventually she couldnāt stay standing here. She yelled and screamed his name, hoping heād hear and run towards her, but that didnāt seem to be doing enough. She shook her head and tore it. She sucked in a deep breath and prepared herself, before she forced herself to run back inside.
She held her breath and closed her eyes again. She tried to hear his coughing, tried to find out where heād gone, or if heād gotten lost. Every so often, she risked squinting her eyes open for just a second, to scan the area before she closed them tight again. The smoke had cleared enough so she could see clearly again, and thankfully, she finally caught a glimpse of him. She saw him stumblingā she heard his breathing. It was audible, weak wheezing, just like hers had been, interjected frequently with harsh coughs. She sprinted towards him and when she ran into him, she threw her arms around him. He immediately clung to her, and she grabbed his arm and hauled him back the way sheād come.
He coughed and choked behind her, and he was staggering more than he was actually running. But she got him out. She ran a few yards away again, and again, she ended in a collapse. She gasped in hard, the pain in her chest from holding her breath subsiding with every hyperventilation and cough. Her vision was just the tiniest bit warped, but the smears were minimal. Still, they were streaming and burning in pain, just from the small collection of seconds sheād risked opening them.
She looked over at Cameron and despite everything, she was shaken with relief. He was coughing much harder than she had, after breathing it in for so much longer. But he was alright. He was crouched on his hands and knees, choking and spluttering. His eyes were struggling to stay open, streaming much more than hers were. She couldnāt imagine the way they were burning; hers could only squint open, and she hadnāt even had them open for a long time. She gave him a while to get as much of it out as he could, before she spoke.
Her voice was still just a rasp against her throat. āIt was a trap,ā she croaked. Cameron still didnāt say anything. Heād gotten his eyes to open more, but now he was staring at the ground like he was a deer in headlights. Sympathy shook her. She remembered the first time sheād walked into an ambush as bad as that one. It was scary. He just wasnāt used to it, just like he wasnāt used to seeing dead bodies. She moved to sit on the ground instead of crouch, shaking her head. āI should have realizedā¦Iām sorryā¦ā
Still, he said nothing. He was blinking faster and faster. He was starting to breathe faster, like he was panicking. She frowned, moving to put her hands on his shoulders. āCameronā weāre okay.ā Her voice was so shot it was only a whisper. Cameron didnāt react; he just kept gasping, harder and harder. She bent to try and catch his gaze. āCameron, itās fine!ā His head snapped up. She was surprised to see how wide his eyes suddenly were, despite how red and painful they appeared. His eyes looked absolutely terrified. Butā¦they looked blank, too. And when he looked up, he didnāt meet her gaze. He was staring just off to the side of her. āCameron?ā she pressed, her stomach starting to drop. āā¦Cameron calm down, everythingās fine, you canāā
āIā I canāt see!ā he croaked, his voice just as shot as hers. But his was cracked with horror, too. Kayās eyes went huge, her heart freezing over. At her shocked silence, Cameron just weakened with even more fear. āI canāt see anything!ā he yelled. Kay was shocked for a moment, taking in his blank stare and coming to a horrible understanding. The fact she wasnāt replying was making it worse. Still staring off to the side, Cameron fumbled through the air before he grabbed onto her arms, his fingers digging into her with desperation. āKay, I canāt see anything!ā he repeated, even more scared. āItās dark! Everything is dark I canāt see!ā
Numbly, Kay reached up and waved her hand through his line of vision. He didnāt even blink. His eyes were huge and horrified; theyād already been streaming from the smoke, but she could tell that now he was trying not to cry. She waved in front of him again, she tried to bend to catch his eyes, but there was nothing.
He was blank.
He was blind.
Her eyes had only been open for about twenty seconds in it, and her vision was smeared.
How long had he had his open?
Cameron was beginning to crumble. His voice was shaking and his words were beginning to rush together as his panic built. āKay I canāt see anything you have to help me you have to do something why canāt I see why canāt I see anything why canāt Iā!?ā
āHey! Hey, shhh! Youāre fine!ā She finally got her words. Kay held back to his arms, just as tightly as he was to hers. He weakened but at least he stopped rambling. He stared desperately, still not quite at her. She moved for him, so she could look him in the eyes even if he couldnāt tell. āListen to me, youāre going to be fine, Cameronā okay?ā He was still gasping, but when she forced hardness to her voice, he gave a tiny set of nods. āYouāre going to be fine, Iām right here. Okay? Iām right here. Iām not going anywhere.ā
He held even tighter to her, still frightened.
āYouāre going to be fine, I promise,ā she pressed. The look on his face was breaking her heart. He looked so confused and lost and terrified, blinking fast but never seeing an improvement. Before she could think about it, she suddenly changed to hug him. She held him close, squeezing him as tight as she could, to try and offer him any kind of comfort. He kept staring wide-eyed over her shoulder. āWeāll figure it out, itāll work out Cam I promise.ā
He didnāt say anything. He stayed gasping in fear and panic.
But she felt him hug her back. She felt his arms and the desperation in his cling. She felt how he was shaking. She could feel all his fear, his doubt, his shock. Those same emotions were swarming in her chest and breaking her down, but she was doing her best to be stronger for him. To stay as collected as she possibly could.
She was struggling to push it all down and just close her eyes.
To just hug him tighter. Because, for right now, that was all she could do.

Here are a couple lines from the new chapter of Before and After!!!Ā
Her heart broke when she forced out a weak: āI thought you would be different.ā
Tears rolled down his face; he didnāt even bother wiping them away. His voice barely scraped through his throat when he replied: āI wanted to be differentā¦ā
Not to sound entirely needy, I just absolutely love getting responses after I post. It could literally be just a like, or a tiny message saying it was good, anything at all makes me so happy to hear, because it means my writing affected people in some way and that all my hard work and love I put into it was worth it!Ā
Literally, every comment I get, I just get so happy; the other day someone randomly messaged me and said they thought about my story that day and that was just so awesome because it means I stuck out to someone! I donāt know, it just makes me ridiculously happy to get the tiniest things <3Ā
Some couples fight over who hogs the blankets more. Not Cameron and Kay.
Itās physically impossible for Cameron to hog the blankets. Because even if he starts out on the very very far edge of the bed, Cam always ends cuddled right up to Kay. By the morning (or more realistically by the middle of the night), without fail, heās always practically laying on top of her, or hugging her, or ducked into her shoulder. Heās like a starfishā heās always gotta be clinging to her in some way.
She always tries to make it seem like sheās exasperated by it. Yet every time she wakes up early, she waits at least a couple minutes, just watching him sleep all snuggled up to her, her chest so warm because he looks so content and peaceful. She loses track of time, just staring at him.
When Kay finally āoutāed Cam to the rest of the team and how she always wakes up with him (most of the time) smushing her, Dina thought it was adorable. Jordan and Gunter teased him relentlessly...however, Jonathan was vindicated. He had to deal with that their entire childhood, when they slept in hotels and heād wake up with Cameron flopped on top of him, or wake up at midnight because he was snoring in his ear. So now someone else finally knows his suffering.
Itās just, when Jonathan woke up before him back then, it was much less soft...he usually just immediately shoved him off and Cameron would wake up either hitting the wall or hitting the floor. But either way.
Cameron isnāt a big fan of coffee. He likes it just fine but he prefers to make it very sweet or just drink something sweet.
He's the kind of guy who unapologetically loves his pumpkin spice lattes with extra whipped cream.
He only drinks regular coffee as much as he does now because Kay likes it so much. He can't understand how just plain milk and cinnamon make it sweet enough for her but... he canāt help but have grown fond of it.
He thinks plain coffee is generally too bitter. But he can't deny that getting to make coffee for Kay is pretty sweet.
Iām gonna start a Gofundme so I can get toĀ @incorrectdeceptionquotes and finally hug her and tell her how awesome she is in person, pls donate to my good cause.Ā
So I have one more fic I really want to write after Before and After, already Before and After only has one chapter left if things go the way I want it to. And Iām starting to think the next fic might be last for Deception. Not that Iām falling out of love with this series in any way....itās just exhausting and sort of emotionally draining to write so much with so little return. I just think if things stay the way they are, Iāll only publish one more, if that. Idk. I appreciate everyone that has given feedback and support! Itās just difficult.
I read āLeverageā. I felt many things, and I actually feared despite the tags, how fucking dare you. Good gods. No, in all seriousness, who gave you the right to do this to these babies? To me? Good gods above, that was awful to witness. That fucking hurt. (I loved it so much, the emotional reaction from me was very real.) /1
I also began reading āDenouementā, and will not finish it, because I took a second look at the tags, and... Iām not ready for this. Iām not emotionally ready for this kind of hurt, and I doubt I ever will be. IāM USED TO STORIES WITH A HAPPY ENDING, not whatever thatās building up to! (What I managed to read was fantastic, but Iām not prepared for that kind of emotional responsibility. The car rides werenāt as long as anticipated, so thatās what I was able to get through.) /2
Oh, good! Youāre so sweet Iām glad you liked it! Hearing my work is appreciated by others makes me really happy, it makes me feel like all the work is worth it! I liked Leverage, I wanted to add more to it but changed my mind when the feedback wasnāt all there, haha. But Iām glad you liked what was there! As for Denouement I understand, itās not everyoneās cup of tea! <3
Thank you for reading my stories at all! And I especially thank you for leaving me your thoughts too! Reviews and feedback are so few and far between in this fandom...I always light up when I receive anything at all!
