Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Write it badly or it'll never be written
Please keep interacting with this post because when I come to tumblr to procrastinate, this shows up again in my notifications and guilts me into writing again
Any first-ish draft is going to be crap. (With the usual note: if it's not crap when you write it, it will be later. Or large parts of it will be. You'll look at what came out of you at white heat [or even just in an everyday piece of work and kinda lukewarm] in two or three days, and it'll be crap then. It's frankly kind of astonishing how quickly perceived perfection turns to crap. It's almost like there's, I don't know, some kind of Entropy thing running or something.)
And this is fine. Move on past it and edit what you wrote.
Then write some more crap.
My cousin in Thoth, this is how it goes. This is how it will always go. Even when you become a career writer—thirty, forty, fifty novels along—it will still be crap when it first comes out.
AND THIS IS OKAY. The essential imperfection of the Universe makes it impossible for your initial emission to be perfect either.
(And if you think it is... wait till your betas or your copyeditor get at it.) :)
So now go do more. Because otherwise, nothing gets done. ...And then where are we?!
~~ who needs a “real job” when you could have this?

Melkor from Silmarillion that I did for the amazing Lucifer zine! (@the_cursed_zine on instagram)
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
and now, the birds
Birds 1 and 2/14: Red Winged Blackbird, Male and female, Agelaius phoeniceus
Bird 3/14, American Robin, Turdus migratorius
hoo boy, ok *out of breath*
GIVE IT UP FOR BIRD NUMBUH 5, THE CANADIAN GOOSE, Branta canadensis!!!!
this guy took me about 4 days to completely finish, all of those freakingk coverts were a bear to render
speaking of obnoxious coverts:
bird 5/14, Bluejay, Cyanocitta cristata
the friggin stripes almost got me chat, i may not make it
Madam....
birds 6 and 7: American Goldfinch, Spinus tristis, male and female
pleasantly simple to paint! next is the flickerrrrr
i just need to have more rules for myself. more rules and limits. surely that will help me
and punishments. more punishments. surely that will help
Day 3 of drawing Ditto until I give in and nab Pokopia...
Ditto as Ophelia.

i’ve touched on it briefly, but i’d like to delve further into kenjaku’s purpose as a literary device because it’s genuinely really fucking interesting. what gege did with kenjaku was actually genius, because kenjaku is a physical manifestation of gojo's love for geto in the form of geto himself.
the love between gojo and geto is both explicitly and implicitly demonstrated throughout the series. we see it in open declarations (he was my best friend, the only one i had) and in subtler ways (how they never fight each other directly, how geto is careful not to kill gojo’s students in combat). these, however, are from gojo and geto’s perspectives. we only see what they want us to see; much of the beauty of their relationship is in how so much of it is meant for the two of them alone.
as an outsider, kenjaku overrides them and drags their intimacy into the limelight, providing unobjectionable evidence of the love between them. he supersedes their carefully curated impressions to point at the undeniable truth in the most violent, grotesque way imaginable, making their love clear for all to see through hijacking geto’s body— which he could only do because gojo loved him.
not only does kenjaku’s plan require geto’s body to work (because gojo couldn’t throw him away) kenjaku literally only exists in geto’s body for the same reason (because gojo couldn’t throw him away). gojo’s sentiment and his weakness come back to haunt him; shibuya happens because kenjaku knew the only surefire way to disarm gojo was through the body of geto himself.
from a literary perspective, gojo’s love for geto is not implicit— it literally arises from the dead to serve as walking, talking proof that gojo loved geto too much to let him go. kenjaku functions to mechanize gojo’s love through the body of the person he loved so dearly and in doing so creates a living representation of the explicit, blatant and undeniable love between them. it’s not subtext; it’s just text.
as a literary device, kenjaku exists as material evidence that they loved each other. it’s not speculative, it’s not conjecture, it’s not reaching— it is right there. we’re not meant to trust gojo’s word; he is not a reliable narrator of his own nature. gojo never had to say he loved geto because kenjaku says it for him. it’s analogous to vehemently denying your guilt in court only for someone to turn up with the body and your handprint around its neck.
and kenjaku delivers a guilty verdict, sentencing gojo to the prison realm and dooming everyone else because being the strongest wasn’t enough to save gojo from love himself.
Now that we have only 5 chapters left I have to confess I always thought that moment between Geto and Gojo in chapter 91 was foreshadowing for something.
Partially because I tried being objective thinking that not everything is about satosugu in this manga (I know this is odd for me cause I am a card carrying member of stsg brainrot club), and surely Gege can't give us so many just satosugu moments. But boy oh boy I have never been so happy to be wrong.
Now in manga where everything hinges on Yuji and Megumi relationships the more important foreshadowing from Shibuya arc turns out was the Toji/Megumi interaction where Toji was happy that Megumi is a Fushiguro not a Zen'in (so he didn't grow up soaked Zen'in ideals).
And the Fake-Geto/Gojo moment was just that.
Gojo finally coming to terms with his love for Geto.
Geto through that twitch of his hand even through death showing that indeed he loved him.
This paints this moment as a proper love confession for me. From both sides.
Gojo knowing exactly the words to say to stir Geto, Geto answering his call.
Gojo also goes into prison realm knowing Geto loved him.
From this point of view after being unsealed, teleporting to Fake-Geto and claiming ownership over Geto's body, desperately doing everything he can in his circumstances to catch up to him and dying on the same day... Gojo in his final moments lived in his love for Geto, knowing that Geto felt the same.
If before I was on the fence saying satosugu is canon, now... oh dear lord now... its so canon. There's not even a shadow of a doubt about it.
This is their yaoi kaisen and we're just living in it!
