Ten Years 2006 vs. 2016

2006 - 16 Years Old Living life as a sixteen year old girl on summer vacation with her best friend. Traveling back and forth between divorced parents houses, dreaming of seeing the world, writing books, and making films. One high school diploma in progress. Wearing a lot of tank tops. Reading books that resonate with an all girls Catholic high school upbringing. Listening to indie rock and still loving the Spice Girls. Can’t wait to break out and explore. Adventurous. Restless. Flirt. 2016 - 26 Years Old Living life as a 26 year old girl on winter vacation with her mom. Traveling all around the world and back and forth between home and graduate school. A high school diploma, a bachelor’s in History, and an MFA in progress. One documentary film under my belt. Dreaming of seeing even more of the world, writing books, and making more films. Wearing a lot of sweaters. Reading books about complicated, talented, and powerful women. Listening to indie rock, R&B and soul, and still loving the Spice Girls. For the first time ever, I actually told someone "I'm not interested" instead of saying "I have a boyfriend" or "I'm seeing someone" in order to have someone step away from continuing to pursue things after one date. Even though I consider myself a strong and confident woman, this was still difficult. But, the thought of the Luna Luna article helped me know it was the right thing to do. Thankfully, he handled it well, but I did have to say it twice. This article made me realize that I need to be honest and firm every time.
