Because it's the one that is the most resistant to commercialization, and the one where the primary objective is "go eat food with your family". And sure you *could* do that any old time, hypothetically, but it's nice having a day set aside. More specifically it’s a holiday that Lincoln declared as part of a nationalist vision for the United States. Thanksgivings used to be just things that happened every so often, but Lincoln declared a specific day to be capital T Thanksgiving as a part of constructing a particularly reconciliatory national image of the United States during the Civil War. So while it is about Native Genocide in the way that all American holidays that are that old are, Thanksgiving in particular is also about rehabilitating Confederate military and political figures from rebellious slavers into fellow Americans.

I see a lot of people posting about Silksong’s difficulty and first of all I want to say: I do get it. Ideally I would want it to have Nine Sols’ simple but robust difficulty adjustment system which to me looked like anyone could beat the game at a difficulty level comfortable for them.

That said, Silksong is harder, but I think more than harder Silksong is Faster and less flexible than hollow knight. The obvious comparison is that Silksong is the Bloodborne to Hollow Knight’s Dark Souls. Where Hollow Knight gave you a big list of charms to essentially encourage multiple play styles, Silksong is not so generous. There are alternate ways to play Silksong but you do have to work for them. For the most part, Silksong demands better and faster dodging than hollow knight did. Hornet is faster but enemies hit harder. Hornet also deals more damage than the Knight could so it’s a different beast. That said, playstyle-wise comparison to bloodborne can be misleading. Bloodborne rewards super-aggressive play, while Silksong rewards patient and skillful dodging. Although it’s slower, hollow knight actually rewards aggressive play more than Silksong does, I think.

Also I do think there should be fewer environmental hazards that do two damage but I like the diagonal downstrike. I like that there’s more platforming challenges throughout

Tumblr is two things. It is a business run by a staff, and it is a community that actively uses the site. The staff clearly wants and hopes that they can shave off enough "undesirables" without us noticing or caring from the community to maintain some bizarre conservative pearl-clutching community standard that the rest of us will stick around and that they can keep this thing going, but those undesirable elements are and always have been core pillars of the community that makes using this website desirable.

It was the case when they mass deleted BLM blogs (and then lied to a bunch of you dipshits to convince you they were "russian chaos agents" which, if you believed, please dm me because I have a bridge to sell you), it was the case when they banned NSFW content, and it's the case everytime someone goes on a transmisogynist banning spree. Every time there's a little bit less of the reason this community works, why it's worth sticking around for.

Sooner or later their bad faith "community management" and longstanding bad business practices are going to shave off enough of the site that it collapses in on itself and tumblr goes out of business, and they'll have nobody to blame but themselves.

I feel like, the thing about homestuck is upwards of 80% of why it was interesting and sometimes even enjoyable was its bizarre multimedia presentation. Its format was novel and weird and presented in a strange way, and I get that mspa has been offline for a while now but it’s pretty obvious that the legal excision from the internet of fan revival projects that allowed people to read homestuck was a prelude to the announcement of this animated series and I can’t help but feel like it’s doomed from the start. People have a strong connection to the characters and story, sure, but I don’t know if people understand how much of what they enjoyed about homestuck was a format that is now impossible to experience homestuck through. It’s a thing of the past. Replaced by something that takes away the format and presentation that made it enjoyable, I think a lot of people are going to find out that they aren’t sure they can honestly still say they like homestuck.

Anyway I’m pretty sure I’d get banned from this discord immediately basically for saying as such.

Reminds me of a post I saw recently mentioning that people will see masks as signs of illness because it reminds them of Coronavirus, even though wearing a mask makes you less like to catch it, and not wearing one is actually a better indicator that someone could be sick, and connected it to the AIDS crisis and mentioned that for a lot of image and health conscious gays, the signs of wasting from AIDS were understood as signs of illness, but fit people who could totally carry the long-incubating virus *looked* and therefore were perceived as healthy. For those who see politics as primarily an issue of optics and aesthetics, reminders that a society they see as healthy is actually sick, or in this case a society they see as egalitarian is actually racist, actually become themselves the signs of that society's sickness, inequality, racism, and so on. For a lot of white people (I see this a lot with white artists, personally) the end result of this thought train is a complete absence of people of color at all, because their presence begins to remind those who don't think about racism that their society is racist.

There was a fellow in my grad program when I was doing my history MA (he did not finish the program) who had a real hard time with the concept that we were meant to narrativize and editorialize history. It always seemed to me like he thought about history as, primarily, a practice of accumulating trivia. I do not know why he was in graduate school at all, but for history much less, as it seemed to me he just wanted to write those books full of historical trivia.
