i know that people mean well and that their comments come from a place of worry, but there is something victim-blamey about the way what happened to christian eriksen today is being discussed. the comments that he just needs to retire, implying that what happened today wouldn't have happened if he had just quit months/years ago. which, is perhaps true, but i wish there was more empathy and grace given to the fact that it's very difficult to come to terms with your body "giving up on you", especially at such a young age, and especially when it robs you of something fundamental to who you are. for so many athletes, giving up a sport they fought their entire lives for is one of the hardest decisions they will ever make
