Dallas was preoccupied, or he might have noticed the kid wincing and looking around like a frightened dog with his tail between his legs. Hell, any other day, Dallas would be sympathetic to it. Today he was in a bad mood, distracted, not eager to run through the same stories with kids again and again on some hunches and hope if he turned over the same stone enough times he was gonna find something he didn’t the first six times. “Yeah, yeah, you’re totally innocent, bein’ framed, I’ve heard the old stories kid.” He dropped the file down on the table, dropping into his chair with a loud sigh.
“If your story ain’t changin’, you wanna explain to me why other people’s stories are changin’ to put you a little too close to the crime scene for comfort, kid?” The more times someone was interviewed the more the story warped and twisted and they were getting further from the, truth, not closer to it. But he was supposed to hound down every lead until something came up, no matter if it was a lie or not.
Daxton narrowed his gaze some, but dropped it in the process. “They are the same stories.” He stated his knee bounced slightly until he sat back and extended his legs to keep it from happening. The boy looked back up to the cop as he sat down, his eyes were distant as he looked to the man. Daxton knew that he made an excellent scapegoat hell he knew that now more than anything since he returned to school and saw what the students still thought of him despite the case being closed, or from what he thought it was.
He rolled his eyes some, shaking his head slightly as he did so, “Because I threatened the kid, so they assume I followed through with it...but I clearly didn't have to. The kid did it himself..plus look at me, do I look or act like a killer to you?” Daxton’s words came smoothly as he tilted his head back and looked at the cop, he may have had his quirks, but he was no killer, at least he wasn’t pushed to that point yet.
