I've noticed . that sometimes (maybe lots of times?) , people see the idea of genderfluidity as some kind of... compromise. between trans and not trans.

In particular, it clicked with me when I saw someone mock genderfluid headcanons for transfem coded characters (plural, in general), as if . that is something people do... when they just... want the character to be anything but a trans woman. As if a genderfluid person cannot be a trans woman. As if it's not committing to accepting a transfem character.

It also occurs to me that genderfluidity is often kind of present in media in characters who are shown to simply not care about gender. That is the stereotype, isn't it? Not caring? Genderfluidity as waving away the idea of going through anything for your identity? Just not dealing with it?

And now I just. Wonder. How many trans people, specifically, view genderfluidity as whimsical noncommitment? Having one foot in the door? Passively experiencing gender? A kind of, "whatever, not something for me to worry about"?

Hey. You. Fellow trans person reading this. Do you take genderfluid people seriously? Do you understand that we might recognize themes in media that resonate with us, and we might also be desperate for representation? Do you realize that some transfeminized women are still men, and their manhood doesn't mean they are less woman or less trans? Is that something you can accept?

And you, non-transfeminized person. Do you ever suggest genderfluid headcanons because the idea of a trans female character makes you uncomfortable, and you feel like that would make them less of a trans woman? Can you accept that a genderfluid trans woman is still a trans woman with trans female experiences?
