@delinquentatom
There wasn’t a lot Fox hated. Not genuinely. But she hated this mountain. The few good memories she had of being here- the pretty art, the good food- was tainted by the memories of the fear and the pain and the horror of her last days here. Just walking the halls gave her back that rush of trying to escape the scientists and the guards. Sleeping in those same bunk beds made her hands shake, remembering the anticipation of waiting to fight them next, waiting to see who would be taken next. She felt like she could look down and would still see those hand shaped bruises the guards left on her arms and wrists, and even though they were long gone, she’d still taken to absently rubbing her wrists when she was idle. In addition her sleeping patterns had gotten worse; she was barely sleeping on her good nights; not sleeping at all on her bad. Raven was still hurt, half of their remaining people were still at Arkadia and under the rule of the adults, and Jasper hadn’t been there in days and she was worried something had happened to him.
Paired with the images of operating tables, cages, and the phantom screams of pain that decorated her dreams, she was hard up for some sleep. But she preferred to spend her supposed sleeping hours in the dining hall, one of the few places that wasn’t completely tainted for her. She remembered the bodies, remembered the violent look of the deaths they’d suffered, but in a way that comforted her, reminded her that the people that hurt her people weren’t here to hurt them anymore. She doubted the room was as comforting for anyone else, and she was usually alone late at night as she wandered around the room, touching paintings that she didn’t know the artists of, running her fingers along what was left of their lives here.
She heard a sound and spun around, fear kicking in on instinct as she backed up a few unconscious paces, but her body relaxed at the familiar figure in the door, and she smiled. “I thought almost everyone was asleep.” She offered as an apology.
It wasn’t exactly a mystery to Atom why Fox was still up as he laid eyes on her, watching her for a few seconds before he accidentally startled her. As she spoke, he gave her a small smile, nodding to himself. “I think you’re right”, he offered her as he stepped into the room. “-almost everyone is asleep”. Almost being the key word.
“Can’t sleep?”, he asked her, more as an offer for her to speak about it than an actual question, as he took gentle steps closer to her but keeping out of her private space. He figured the reason she couldn’t sleep was because of where they were- he knew she had been having troubles with being around mountain men back at arkadia (not that he had been particularly fond of it either), so being back in the mountain couldn’t exactly be easy on her.

Tbh, this is just a test run. I only did it because I was bored af so I’m not even sure I’ll do any more of these lol Also, I forgot to fix the follow button on the last two ugh

Miller. Miller who also had stealing on his rap sheet. “Miller.” She relaxed at the mention of the other thief; that made sense. Birds of a feather and all, he probably noticed small tells others wouldn’t think to keep an eye out for. “There goes my mysterious ingenue image.” She laughed, feeling a little lighter as she turned to face him fully.
“Hey, I could assault someone! I just… couldn’t do it well.” She giggled again. “Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t,” she teased, referring to her size being an advantage, “I have to keep something a mystery right? You’ll just have to wonder how good or bad a thief I am.” Although she’d been in the Skybox, so arguably anyone would think she was a bad thief, a bad enough one to get caught. Which while insulting to her pride, probably wasn’t a bad thing to let people think, if she was trying to stay trustworthy. “I never asked you what you were in for, or are you a mystery too?” She added the last part to give him an out; she didn’t like talking about it, so she tried not to press the other delinquents about it. And she hadn’t run into any killers who’d tried to hurt her yet (at least not among the delinquents), so she stuck to that habit.
Seeing how Fox seemed more at ease, Atom couldn’t help a small smile on his lips, feeling ratther content with her relaxing once again. As Fox protested, however, Atom let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head to himself.
As she continued speaking, Atom nodded along. “Seems fair enough”, he told her, turning his eyes to look at the girl. Then, she asked about him and he could feel himself tense up for a moment. She had given him a way to dismiss her question, but it still got to him for a brief moment. Then, he shrugged, looking away for a moment before he nodded for them to continue walking before doing just that. “I... was arrested for selling something I shouldn’t have” - selling himself, but he wasn’t going to bring it up. He’d rather keep it vague, keep it in the past - his past - where it belonged.
Sure, some of the delinquents knew and the members of Bellamy’s militia were probably all aware of what he had done, but considering Fox didn’t already know - and he really didn’t think she was faking it, she was a bad liar after all - it was nothing those who knew were telling others.
{Fox}
She hadn’t expected him to play along, and was distracted from her discomfort for a moment by a rise of heat in her cheeks and a quick, flattered glance at him before looking back at the ground, laughing a little.
Even the return to the topic she didn’t want to talk about wasn’t able to fully get rid of the red in her cheeks, but she did feel her stomach drop a bit. “I had to be a thief.” She tried for a playfully dramatic wince. “Am I that untrustworthy looking?” She shrugged, trying to be lighthearted about it, trying not to panic about what might have been said about her. “At least I’m not pegged for a murderer, I guess.” Do I ask? If I ask, he might wonder why I’m worried about what people are saying? He might wonder what I’ve got to hide. But anyone would want to know right? It’s an expected thing, it doesn’t have to mean I’m hiding something right? Shit. “Anything else interesting about me I should know?”
Watching Fox, Atom came to a stop as he noticed she was clearly affected by what he had just told her. Even though he didn’t know her whole story, he could understand why though. Few of them were proud over what they had done on the ark and he wasn’t an exception either.
“I wouldn’t worry about it”, Atom told her, his voice softer than usual. “I think it was Miller who said it. Takes one to know one, I suppose”, he offered her as consolation.
“I just can’t see you assaulting someone”, Atom then told her, half-teasingly as he offered her a shy smirk. “Besides, you’re size would be an advantage for a thief”
{Fox}
She shrugged gamely. “It was worth a shot.” She laughed, pleased to have amused him.
He turned his eyes back to her, but she turned her eyes away from him, though she tried to be casual about it. “Yeah. Stealing.”
It was all she’d tell people, she didn’t want anyone to know really what she was here for, although pickpocketing might actually be useful around here, she knew it was the type of thieving that merited constant distrust. Most of the adults didn’t trust her already given the circumstances of her arrest; she didn’t need to make the others distrust her as well. “Stupid really. Feels like forever ago.” She lied, trying to keep the lie from showing. It felt like yesterday, though the memories alternated between the man- a friend of her mother’s no less- getting floated for her crime, getting caught, and the realization that her parents had chosen themselves over her when she didn’t show up in the system. 6 months she spent in the Skybox, 6 months thinking any day she’d be let out because her parents realized they couldn’t let her float for what she’d done for her dad. “You getting curious about me?” She asked, partially teasing him, partially trying to figure out if anyone had said anything about her, figured out anything about her.
Atom was quick to pick up on the girl’s uneasiness about the subject, nodding along as she spoke. He somewhat regretted bringing it up considering she didn’t seem too comfortable with the subject, but it was too late to do anything about now anyways.
A soft smile found his lips as she retorted by asking him why he was wondering, giving her something of a half-shrug. “Maybe I am”, he offered, returning it with the same level of teasing.
“But if you’re asking how I knew”, Atom then said, casually placing his hands in the pockets of his trousers. “Someone mentioned, back when we lived at the dropship, that you had to be a thief”, he explained.
{Fox}
She nodded, smiling wryly. “Yeah, sorry about that. I thought I didn’t want to talk about it. Guess I was wrong.” She drifted closer to nudge him with her shoulder. “Can you like, smack the paranoia out of me? Is that a thing?” She asked, only half kidding. If there was a way to curb this paranoia, she’d try just about anything.
“What do you want to talk about? Has anything interesting been happening on patrols?” She asked eagerly. There was a topic she could jump on. The ever-elusive patrols she wasn’t allowed to go on. She wished she had some kind of skill to offer, fighting or shooting or hunting or even just driving… but alas, she had nothing useful, and thus none of the delinquents had any reason to bring her along.
A smirk spread on Atom’s lips as Fox nudged him, a small chuckle escaping him as she spoke. “I doubt that would do you any good”, he offered kindly.
Taking a moment to ponder her question, Atom ended up shrugging. “Not really”, he told her, answering the last question first, before Atom realised just how little he knew about Fox. “You got caught stealing, right?”, he asked, turning his eyes back to the girl. It was long since he last spoke to one of the other delinquents about their life on the ark that it felt odd, but since he hadn’t really spoke much with Fox back when they lived by the dropship, he deemed it to be a valid question.
{@olderblake}
It was quite early in the morning, the sun hadn’t even rose, as Atom stepped outside, all ready for guard duty with the older Blake siblings, the one he was still on good terms with. He wasn’t a morning person, not really, but he made it work when he had to.
As he looked around camp, Atom pulled a hand through his hair, fingers getting tangled in the mess of short curles just as he spotted Bellamy. Once his fingers were untangled from his hair, Atom headed over to the older male.
“Remind me again why we have to get up this early”, he said, his morning voice still intact and it was obviously he didn’t enjoy being up before dawn.
{Fox}
“Insurance?” It took her a second too long, but she got the subtle implication. “Oh, right, gotcha.” She brushed off, having the sense not to talk about it at length when people could potentially hear them. She hated to admit it, but it made her feel a little better. She was crap with a gun, but just as being around Bellamy and the others with their guns made her feel a little more secure, so did knowing Atom had taken care to protect himself, and probably her if something were to happen.
She answered his second question first, with a reassuring shake of her head. No one had done anything to her, not really. It had just been a bad day; first agressive Trikru warriors when she’d gone out with a few people to get some water, then a Mountain couple who refused to let her escape conversation with them, trapping her for what had probably only been about five or ten minutes, but felt like years. “No, no, nothing like that, don’t worry.” She shrugged. “I’m probably just overreacting, I just… I don’t understand why they let them stay here. And objectively, yeah, I get it; they didn’t have anything to do with what happened, but still. I can’t help that every time I see one of them, I think about it.” She shuddered visibly, though she covered it by crossing her arms as though she’d just be shifting. “And it’s basically the last thing I want to think about.” She added, shrugging again and avoiding looking over at him, focusing instead on the ground in front of them.
Atom watched Fox as she spoke, nodding in understanding. He understood what she meant as he found it hard to trust the mountain men himself. He had been lucky inside that mountain, compared to some of the others, but it had definitely affected him. Considering Fox was quite small too, Atom knew that she would have a harder time defending herself only based on physical strength if it ever came to it and he could imagine that alone made her feel at unease.
“We don’t have to talk about it”, Atom said after a moment of silence. “Not unless you want to”, he told her. He wasn’t going to force her to think about something that made her feel worse. The whole point with taking a walk with her was, after all, for her to feel better.
{Fox}
She breathed a visible sigh of relief when he agreed to walk, and fell into step with him as they left the weapons behind. “Thanks.” She offered him a slightly more comfortable smile. “I hope I didn’t interrupt any super important plans you had back there.” She said, half trying to bait him into telling her what he’d been doing with the weapons and half just not wanting to talk about what was bothering her. She just wanted this feeling to go away, this sense of being unsafe in her own camp… well, Arkadia’s camp.
As they were walking, Atom could tell the girl seemed to relax somewhat. As he listened to her words though, he looked away for a bit, considering whether he should tell her or not. But, since he knew she was loyal and for that reason, wouldn’t tell anyone who’d get him in trouble, he decided he might as well.
“I just”, he started, trailing off for a moment as he considered his choice of words. “-got some insurance”, he then finished the sentence, deciding he should probably be as vague as possible. Also, he wasn’t exactly fond of the idea to admit that he felt uncomfortable with all the non-Arkers. Not that he was comfortable with the Arkers either. “But other than feeling a bit.. crowded, you’re fine?”, Atom then asked, purposely not pushing her to talk about it, but leaving it open just in case she did want to talk about it.
“No one did anything to you, right?”, he then asked, only to make sure there wasn’t any specific reason for her discomfort.
{Fox}
He was flustered, and she felt a brief sting of regret of interrupting whatever he’d been doing over here, but brushed it off as he commented on her own obvious discomfort. She tried to smooth out her expression, running a hand over her ponytail and shrugging. “No, nothing’s wrong,” she lied, hoping it wasn’t written across her face, “Just- camp’s a little crowded sometimes, with all the non-ark arrivals and, you know, it’s just- it’s tough sometimes. You can’t get away from them.” She realized she was babbling and tried to redirect the conversation.
“You busy here? Or are you free to take a walk?” Please be free, she thought. Miller was off with Jasper and Bellamy and Harper were always busy, and Atom usually made time for her, and even if he wasn’t free, she was already prepared to offer to help him with whatever he may be busy doing. Just something to get her mind off the Mountain Men and back to normalcy.
Atom raised an eyebrow as Fox spoke, not really buying that nothing was wrong. Something had obviously gotten to her and the more she spoke, the better he got a sense of what the problem was.
Looking around for a moment, he let out a sigh as he nodded. “I know what you mean”, he agreed. It was hard enough to trust the people from The Ark, so with all the grounders and mountain men, it was hard not to feel overwhelmed.
Pausing as she asked if he was busy, he looked her over. She looked liike she could need someone and he was free, after all. “Let’s take a walk”, he agreed before gesturing for them to walk.
{Fox}
Her skin was hot and crawling; she hated dealing with grounders, but Mountain Men took the cake in making her uncomfortable. She knew that only a fraction of them had a hand in what had happened in Mount Weather, but that didn’t stop her from being uncomfortable around them. And the best way to put herself at ease in her skin once more was to go find her own people.
Not Arkadians, to be specific. She didn’t think of herself as an Arkadian. They’d shot her from the sky to die (or so they’d thought probable) on a radioactive planet; she didn’t owe them anything, and they obviously didn’t have any concern for her. But her fellow delinquents (she’d stopped thinking of them as the 100 a long time ago, when they’d started dying within the spans of days), they had her full loyalty. And most of them were here, and so so was she.
She spotted Atom over by the weapons supply and trotted over to him, trying to feign casual-ness. “Hey,” Wow. Way too high pitched and nervous. “What are you doing?” There, that was better, more her normal voice.
Atom had made sure not to bring any attention to himself as he had headed to the weapons supply. He found it hard to trust any one who hadn’t been with the delinquents from the very start and with certain mountain men living in Arkadia, he found it best to keep himself armed.
However, Atom no longer felt a knife would be enough. If someone turned on them, tried to hurt them, a knife would more than likely prove to be useless. He had just picked a gun up, holding it in his hand as he made sure it still had bullets in the magazine. Just as he decided to leave with the gun, he was caught off guard by a familiar voice. Atom swiped around quickly, his hands behind his back.
“Fox”, Atom said, as casual as he could and giving the girl a grin, while he placed the gun inside his pantline before adjusting his shirt to cover the gun. “Nothing really”, he answered her before noticing something felt off. “Is something wrong?”
