{ General Modern Verse Background}
Fox Haddock (donât try making fun of the name; 1. sheâs heard it all and 2. she loves her name) was a child of the foster system from the ages of 16 to 18.Â
Fox was caught stealing important documents from a member of the mayorâs office and arrested promptly. She was in juvenile detention for only a few days, but released because she hadnât gotten away with the documents and the staff decided not to press charges given she was the daughter of a city council member, unaware that that same council member was the one who had told her to steal those documents in the first place, hoping to give himself an edge and push himself higher on the political food chain.
Upon her release, she found out that her parents had called social services and surrendered her to the foster care system, leaving the responsibility for the theft solely on Fox and claiming they were unable to care for such a delinquent child and, being too old to be placed, Fox ended up in a group home for the two years before she turned 18. Fox refused to turn on her parents and tried to convince herself theyâd change their minds and come back for her, and it was only a few months before she turned 18 that she came to terms with the fact her only family had abandoned her.Â
