Lacking sleep, accumulated stress and continuous tension for days, Cid could not help but falling asleep sitting in front of his desk. His head falling against the smooth surface of dark wood like a heavy metal ball, unaware after closing his eyes. Just as a panting attendant entered the room, getting no response to his call. Vital news awaited the main person in charge of the experiments being carried out, involving the subject, the main cause of the agitation suffered both in the laboratories and the nursing area.
Kefka Palazzo had awakened! Therefore, his idea, although risky, had been successful! Definitely the use of an Esper like that, in a category of which the effects of its magic could not yet be specified with equal certainty than the others, had been the result of desperation but Gestahl would have demanded it anyway, continuing the experiment sooner or later.
The scientistâs eyes snapped open, more alarmed by the abrupt intrusion than the excited screams that followed it. Feeling his mouth pasty and dry throat, before speaking Cid had to clear his throat to make his words come out clearly.
âCould you repeat what you just said?â He asked, still slightly confused. And again, the information was exclaimed.
Amazed, feeling part of the burden that oppressed his heart fade away, Cid almost jumped out of his comfortable seat, heading to the open door, eager to see what was said with his own eyes, leaving the informant a few steps behind unable to catch the breath.
But Cid was not the only one to come to the point, several uniformed men protected by pieces of armor seemed to have advanced, followed by some nurses while the unpleasant sound of machinery became unpleasantly intense, thick smoke escaping through the entranceâŠ
âKEFKA! â Cid shouted between coughs, covering nose and mouth with one hand. To his clothes having been added the gaudy yellow coat. âKefka, can you hear me?â Cid insisted, even if he knew how the scene would end.
âWHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!â The young manâs screaming tore through the flames and the smoke that quickly engulfed the lab. He didnât care that he could choke on it. He didnât care that EVERYONE else could suffocate as well. The boy was furious and terrified, still attached to the infusion line that was nearly finished emptying.
âI TOLD YOU TO STOP! I TOLD YOU!â Thereâs a beeping sound as the infusion finishes and suddenly unlocks itself, the line falling out of his arm. heâs stunned, staring down at it. When had the Empire become like this?! When had they even thought to make something like that?!
The ice woman stands amid the flames, visible only to the distressed blond. Sheâs grinning maliciously at him and as she extends her arm toward the entrance, he does as well, sharp spears of ice shooting from his hands at the guards that were entering, impaling them through their armor. He felt nothing for them. He knew the soldiers werenât here to help him. They were Gestahlâs men, not his own. The guards were never under his own command.Â
âCID!â Heâs breathing deeply after he yells for the other, arm still held out straight, eyes still filled with panic. âCOME IN HERE AND TELL ME IâM OKAY!â
Hearing the boy's voice on the other side helped ease the mature scientist's concern a bit, suffering the consequences of Kefka's previous actions. In his voice the man, continuing to hinder communication with him.
However, the dangerousness of the continuous smoke that reigned in the area was a priority, certain of Kefka's presence, Cid faced a greater challenge, such as getting Kefka out of the room that the fire had made his.
"Kefka, you did it, you're alive!" Fighting the natural urge to cough at the slightest perception of smoke, Cid responded. His voice rising with pride. The tears that formed in his eyes as a result of the grayish clouds that came out of the interior.
And Cid would have dared to approach a few steps if it had not been for the appearance of sharp and elongated fragments of ice, fiercely crossing everyone in the middle of their path, leaving the man without a word. Immediately throwing himself to the floor so as not to be impaled too. His heart throbbing violently against it.Â

Perhaps his surrender to denounce or protest against the immoral commands of the Emperor had turned him into a coward, but Cid perfectly understood the accumulation of emotions that Celes had allowed to surface because he himself had found the use of children in his duty repulsive.Â
Anything that could harm innocents of such caliber enraged him, but to further irritation, knowing his fate, he had to give in.Â
âNeither us. The Emperor did.â If Cid wanted to make something clear, that was it and then he would focus in his work.Â
The scientist was sure many soldiers had had to swallow bile as well, their face would display this bitterness. While making tea having left Celes behind, placing the leaf inside the kettle filled of hot water so that it would fill with its substance, his mind moved him to some conversations between guards. Indeed, they were enemies to the Empire but at the same time, Marandaâs people were human beings.Â
Celes wished to DISAPPEAR. She would never admit such a thing out loud, and she didnât want Cid to worry too much about her, but she still hated this. She had been raised to become a rune knight, a general. She had always taken her training seriously. But now, she didnât know what she wanted anymore. She wasnât sure she wanted to keep doing this.
âAnd he shouldnât do such things. Itâs barbaric.â She admitted as she frowned. Of course, she was pretty sure Cid had nothing to do in this decision - he was only a scientist - but it was still RELIEVING to hear it. She had always trusted him; she was glad to know she still could. Even if she wasnât sure she could tell him everything that crossed her mind.Â
She was still looking at Cid as he was preparing her tea. It was a small consolation after everything that had happened, but she was still glad she could spend some time with him. It was better than being entirely alone.Â
Cid nodded, sharing the same opinion as Celes but keeping his mouth shut that time.Â
He understood the girl's impetus, thanks to her role as a first-hand witness to the ruler's cruelty, yet he felt the responsibility of his own words to sink him deeper and deeper into the earth. If he agreed with her that could be considered incitement to betrayal but if he did the opposite, he would be justifying such senseless violence.Â
It was when the water acquired the characteristic color of confusion that the scientist was able to remove the leaf and put out the fire. Â
âI wish everything was less complicated... â
In every hand, the teapot and a mug were carried just as promised for her in his return.Â

How would your muse describe mine? Don't sugarcoat it. I am genuinely intrigued.
