Normally, Jonah didn’t bother with Tinder. Meeting people at clubs and bars had always been quicker and easier. Plus, he tended to be a bit overwhelmed by the response. Still, today, he couldn’t keep himself steady. It would be four years soon, four years and a lifetime more ahead of him. So, when he found the beautiful older red haired woman, Jonah was fairly quick to message her to set up a “date”.
Though the young man spent three nights a week singing in front of plenty of people. it was significantly more nerve wracking to go on a ‘date’. Though he understands it’s silly, he spends a bit too long fussing with his hair. Swearing at himself, he makes his way out to his car and drives to the coffee shop they’d arranged to meet at.
Slipping inside, he orders a coffee; he’d learned to not trust American tea. Perhaps it was nonsense, but it tasted wrong, and Jonah would happily avoid it altogether. She’s not hard to spot, so Jonah slips in across from her with a broad smile.
“Hi, it’s nice to see you,” he says, extending a large hand for hers, “Sorry, I think I’m a little late, I’m an idiot with poor time management skills,” he says with a smile, his eyes fixed on hers as he speaks.
A fair skinned hand was outstretched to meet his own, offering her date a bright smile. “That’s perfectly fine,” she responded, returning her hand to the warm comfort of the cream colored mug before her. It had been a while since Del had been on a date, and she wasn’t quite sure what to do. Small talk, right? Wasn’t that what people did? Talk about the weather or something?
Well, at least it wasn’t as generic as talking about the climate. The coffee house was one that she frequented, to the point they new her regular orders by heart. Typically a mug of hot black tea, occasionally venturing into a flavored one, always topped off with lemon and honey. She lifted the cup to her lips and took a small sip, eyeing him over the top of her cup with a slight smile.
