One of Felicity’s new friends had told her all about ice skating and the little girl had decided that she absolutely had to try it. So it was after  endless days of chatter about ice skating that Nate caved. He brought Felicity to the ice rink and rented two pairs of skates and tried not to look as nervous as he felt. He had barely gotten the skates in hand when Felicity began to tug at the edge of his coat. “Daddy, daddy!” she whispered in awe. “Daddy, look! I want to do that!” Nate looked and his nerves were not soothed. The skater that Felicity was pointing to had clearly been skating for years. Yet, when Felicity began to tug him toward the rink, Nate followed. “Yes, please!” Felicity squeaked out when the woman made her offer. Nate was still, his gaze moving between his (uninjured!) daughter and the woman. “She…ah…she’s never actually skated before, would it be alright?” Will she be alright? 

"never? well then, i am honoured to help you out!” she reassured the kid, although she was looking directly at her father. memories of her first skating classes made their way to her mind, causing her to smile. it seemed like yesterday, yet it was a lifetime ago. “do you want to put her skates on? not too tight, but not too loose. and tuck the excess show laces in so they don’t get in the way.” the brunette instructed, the spikes of one of her foot were poking the ice so she stayed motionless. “the trick is to go easy, and to have fun!” she took the initiative to grab the helmer that was next to the girl and put it on her head, giving it a gentle tap. “safety first.” this other comment was aimed towards the man. she, too, would feel nervous if a random person just popped out of nowhere and offered to help, but the child was in good hands, and she wanted him to know that.

“my name is delphine, but everyone calls me phi.” she stretched her arm out for him to shake her hand. then, she offered the kid her hands to help her out. “standing up is going to feel weird, so make sure to take your time.... look at you! you’re a natural!” another gentle tap on the helmet followed her words as she smiled proudly at the kid. “i’ve got an idea! how about i stay in front of you and help you out while your dad follows behind? we’ll be gowing slow, so he can just slide in his boots.” usually it was forbidden, but nobody would mind at the endearing sight of this little girl having the time of her life. “we’ll catch you, i promise.”

2. what winter holiday(s), if any, does your muse celebrate? 

she’s not religious, never have been and never will be, but she celebrates christmas in its commercial form. the shopping, the presents, the shopping again, the decorations; that’s all she celebrates. new year’s eve too, i guess? like she’ll count down, post about it, and then go back to her regularly scheduled online shopping to get even more decorations!

🎵 = What is your muse’s favorite genre of music? What are some of their favorite artists? How important is music to them? 

pop! for sure. you best believe she listened to lady gaga and katy perry on repeat all day every day during her entire teenage years!!!! she has (somewhat, but not really) involved. she does not have favourite singers or bands, she really goes with songs that she appreciates. if she had to pick, she would probably say harry styles. she doesn’t relate to a lot of his songs, but none have disappointed her so far and she wished she had skated to sign of the times! she does have a bit of a double personality when it comes to music, though! delphine always insisted on choosing her songs for her performances, and she would often pick rock classics from the 70s, 80s, or 90s. she danced to fleetwood mac, bonnie tyler, U2, abba, cyndi lauper... but as soon as she was done she’d scream her lungs out to poker face or umbrella or toxic! music used to hold such an important part in her life! when she was on the ice during a competition, she would hold on to the music to avoid being distracted by the crowd or her nerves. it was her way to shut down, for just a while, to stop existing for a little while.

🍕 = What is your muse’s usual pizza order? Do they order any drinks, sides, or desserts to go with it?

hawaiian pizza, without any doubt (she can’t get anymore canadian)! but she keeps the pineapple chunks for the end, so she basically just eats pepperoni and cheese. veggie pizza is a good pick, but she’ll ask to remove the mushrooms. she likes to order pizza and eat it at home, so her order sticks to a medium or two, and she’ll drink whatever she has. if she wants to go full on junk food, she’ll have mountain dew too! she rarely eats dessert with pizza, because she tries to convince herself she’s not lactose intolerant, but she is, so chances are she’s feeling too bad to have cookies with it!

... nope. she’s probably the most boring person when it comes to alien and extraterrestrials. she doesn’t believe in any of the rumours or crazy history channel television shows. if people were to confess their alien encounter with her, she’d probably judge them hard enough to have them switch the conversation topic. look, unicorns are real, mermaids are real, it is totally logical to want to adopt a baby polar bear that stays baby forever, but she crosses the line at things that don’t live on this planet! but she still wants to visit roswell in new mexico, because the mcdonalds look really cool!

7. does your muse get annoyed by christmas songs? 

yes! she dislikes most christmas songs, they don’t ring any (jingle) bells to her. they play all the time, everywhere and for way too long. delphine will tolerate christmas songs between december 23rd and december 26th, after this, just ban it until next year! she never gets tired of do they know it’s christmas or war is over, though, or last christmas! last christmas is probably her favourite holiday song.

what is your muse’s opinion on hallmark christmas movies?

SHE. LOVES. THEM. (this is some very shameless projection). she’d really watch them 24/7 if she could. everything seems so merry and jolly and simple and easy and perfect... she wants to be stuck in alaska and help with the jingle festival and be the jingle princess too! and she wants to meet a prince and share a bed and breakfast with him and they do the waltz in the living room! she wants to have tons of friends and loving family members! seriously, she’d give up on everything just to live in one of those movies for a while; i’d say this is exactly what she’s searching for in whistler. she wants an escapein a beautiful location where everything is a surprise.

🔋  = Who or what drains your muse the most? Who or what helps to revitalize that energy? 

her parents, most definitely. they are just... yeah, no, they did not do a good job. i feel like her father has improved a lot in the past few years, but her mom is so draining. she’ll always bring up delphine’s mistakes or questionable life decisions just for funsies, i guess! competition on its own. it’s affecting delphine less nowadays, but it was the worst. especially when she had to go from one championship to the next, she barely had time to come down from the adrenaline rush her body was stuck on. she was lucky to develop some hobbies! she could have used that to revitalize, back in the day! anything that involves creativity will help her charge those batteries up! (hugs too, she’s a hugger).

💐  = How would your muse respond to receiving a bouquet from an admirer? What kind of flowers would they prefer in the bouquet? 

delphine thinks it’s such a beautiful attention! and she takes good care of the bouquets she receives, she gets nice quality vases, changes the water when needed, trim yellow leaves... flowers are ephemeral, they remind her to take care of what she has while it’s there, if it makes sense? and it makes great instagram posts too, so they’re perfect! she’d prefer peonies. she loooooves peonies! or roses, like white or pink roses. she loves wild flowers too, bouquets that look a little bit more ~ ancient ~ she really loves flowers, so you get her a daisy you found by the side of the road and she’d be eternally grateful.

1. does your muse like snow? 

she likes first snows, romantic snowfalls, fluffy snowflakes, snow that melts as soon as it reaches the ground, snow during the holidays... but she hates snowstorms that barely let you get out of the house, snowstorms that take weeks to shovel away, snowstorms that make everything dangerous, snowstorms that stop plane flights... her relationship with snow is very superficial. she only likes the aesthetic of it, clearly, delphine needs to get better priorities! there’s more to snow than shiny cristals!

13. does your muse put up decorations for the holidays?

YES! oh my, yes yes yes. she’s never had time, as a child, to set up a tree, put on lights and tiny adorable villages. ever since she moved out of her parents’ house, she’s going all in! she has a ton of nutcrackers in funny costumes or unexpected appearances, she has a big tree that will have a different color theme each year, she sets up so many lights she leaves them on until march; she’s really extra about it. she wishes she lived in one of those hallmark movies where there are people paid to set up decorations! she’s really good at it, actually!

chocolate and vanilla swirl (soft serve especially)! she’s quite the picky eater, so all the crazy fancy and complicated flavours (like mint chocolate? shocking!) are too much for her sophisticated palete that stopped evoling at 4 years-old. if she’s feeling really adventurous, she might try caramel or strawberry. cup or bowl or, even better, waffle bowl. cones get extra messy and even if she packs on a ton of napkins, she’ll give them all away to kids around and won’t have anything to wipe her chin. so cup it is, especially if she has room to push the neon red cherry on top to the side. hot fudge is her go to topping, maybe crumbled up chocolate chip or oreo cookies if she’s eating it at home. yes, it gets boring and no, she absolutely does not care.

eeeeeee, i wanted this one so bad! penguins and dolphins will forever fight for the top of the list. baby penguins really win it all! and dolphins are an obvious pick because... well... her name basically means dolphin. it’s her brand! honourable mentions for bears; polar bears, panda bears... she really likes bears. she has a ton of stuffed animals in the shape of penguins or dolphins, people would throw them at her after a performance in a competition. and teddy bears? she had to donate them to a local charity because she had too many! she has never had a pet, and really wants one. she’s thinking of adopting a dog (her dream pup is a samoyed), but she’s be fine with a chow chow!

delphine tightened the laces of her boots and looked in front of her to the quite empty ice rink. she could understand, there were plenty of activities more entertaining than skating in circles. most people clearly had better priorities than her. she stood up and walked awkwardly to the ice. her legs were wobbly, resembling of bambi, pretty much. it took her a couple of seconds to get the hang of it and she joined the few couples and parents who skated clockwise. it did not take her long to drift from the peer pressure of going slower than turtles. she moved away from the other users, closer to the center. there were speakers blasting whatever was on the radio and she followed the music; twirling and spinning, jumping and spiralling around. when she was done with her improvised performance, she locked eyes with an adorable child, jaw dropped and eyes twinkling from admiration, and who she assumed to be her parent. delphine skated towards them, greeting them both with a bright smile. “it’s not as hard as it looks, i promise!” she chuckled softly, braking in front of the duo. “i could teach you a thing or two. how does that sound?”
