Man. The ominous ending.
Guys I loved Sirens of the Deep, but I'm absolutely unwell about how the version in the film is seemingly told the way Jaskier chooses to remember it, rather than as the true, tragic ending explained in the book.
Kindly read this excerpt from Sword of Destiny if you feel like getting your heart broken, because not enough people are talking about this right now:
"...He, Dandelion, had carried her out in his arms and had buried her far from the city, in the forest, alone and peaceful, and, as she had asked, buried two things with her: her lute and her sky blue pearl."
I am unwell.
THE SNOW in the mountains was melting and Bunny had been dead for several weeks before we came to understand the gravity of our situation.

I have see so many fics where Viktor stays in Zaun and/or ends up with Silco and it's great but hear me out
Jayce getting exiled, ending up in Zaun and Silco seeing the potential in him. I mean Jayce would be in similarly vulnerable position as Jinx was. He had no support system and lost his life work because it was deemed too dangerous and Piltover didn't even gave him a chance... Silco on the other hand doesn't really care about things being illegal or dangerous especially when he can gain something from it. To make it even more interesting we know for a fact that with right persuasion Jayce would be willing to make weapons and I feel like unlike Viktor he would also fully understand Singed and be willing to work with him especially if he got disappointed by Piltover's system.
Also Jayce Talis babysitting and teaching Powder about hextech.
Okay let me add my five cents to the Zaunite au, where Viktor didn’t make it to the academy and remained in Zaun.
He was trying to invent on his own, but he desperately needed money for his research. And that’s when Silco appeared…

Genuine question what do you like about Kallisto outside of his appearance. I stopped this manwha when I understood that they will try to pass the Eckhart who abused OG Penelope for years as not being that bad
Well there's a lot I love about him but to stay on the train of thought regarding the Eckharts abusing Penelope, I like that Callisto doesn't fully forgive the Eckharts. I won't spoil anything but there's a scene where the Eckharts are dealing with a scandal involving Penelope and predictably want to blame her for it, but Callisto steps in and defends her when she couldn't do so herself. I think he even wanted to assign his own men to help deal with the scandal so the duchy didn't resort to slandering Penelope. I love that. He will always defend her in front of her family, no matter how that makes them feel.
He also notices little things and will ask if it has to do with the abuse she is facing at the duchy.
SLIGHT SPOILER: He even once offered to let her live with him if the duchy treats her that badly.
To me, that's very sweet that he's so observant when it comes to Penelope and truly cares about her. He doesn't let them continue to abuse her without trying to help her.
I don't want to sound mean but the ML doing kind thing for the heroine is kind of a given to these stories
Does he have ambitions that were there before her? Anyone else he's close to?
The issue I have with these isekai is that the ML whole point is just to love the heroine.
I don't know how much you read of the manhwa, but as someone mentioned earlier Callisto has been an iron judge for the Eckharts and has never tolerated them, even until the end of the story.
As for his dreams and aspirations, he had already mentioned it previously in the hunting tournament arc, he aspires to be a flawless emperor. This is due to the deep resentment he feels against his father and the corruption of the nobility, in fact he was very clear about this in episode 117 of the manhwa. The people close to him are his assistant Cedrick Porter, his nanny (very briefly mentioned in the side stories) and his knights who were with him in the war. They don't have much participation in the story because it is focused only on Penelope.
Personally I love the banter he has with Penelope, gives a refreshing touch to the suffocating plot. He is quite rude and curses a lot, even though he is supposed to be a prince and I find that refreshing. He's also pretty honest and direct, so you don't have to keep finding out if he has ulterior motives or not. In a nutshell, the reason why I like him so much is that he made me laugh throughout the entire story but I also liked his sarcastic comments and his opinions.
In the recent chapters, there was a slight annoyance with Callisto on the part of some fans, due to his perception of love: he does not believe in love because he says that it is a rather fickle feeling and cannot be trusted (this mainly due to his childhood traumas). Callisto likes Penelope, but he is reluctant to say it is love due to her trauma, making Penelope feel a little hurt by his words.
But going back to the romance in that story, it's a slow burn since the story is focused mainly on Penelope's survival. The romance only begins to occur properly until chapter 200 of the main story of the novel and this has 231 chapters, right now we are going through chapter 166. There is still a long way to go to adapt and I have not mentioned the side stories that are 48 chapters.

you guys are so annoying. why do i have to see discourse every year that's like "was tolkien really a woke king or was he your conservative uncle?" the guy was a devout catholic and a genteel misogynist who maintained lifelong friendships with queer people and women, and this isn't even paradoxical because that was part of the upper-class oxford culture he was immersed in. tolkien told the nazis to fuck off (and in doing so demonstrated a real understanding of what racism is and why it's harmful, beyond simply "these guys are bad news because they're who my country is at war with right now") but his inner life was marked by internalized racism that is deeply and inextricably woven into the art that he made. he foolishly described himself as an anarcho-monarchist, and it's kind of crazy to see people on this website passionately arguing that he likely never meaningfully engaged with anarchist theory, because...yeah, no shit, of course he didn't. tolkien didn't have to engage with most sociopolitical theory because as an upper-class englishman of his position, he was never affected by any of the issues that this theory is concerned with. what is plainly obvious from reading both his fiction and letters is that tolkien's ideal political system was that the divinely ordained god-king would rise up and rule in perfect justice and humility; he didn't want a government, he wanted a king arthur, even though (obviously) he was aware that outcome was impossible. why is it so hard for people to accept that he was just some guy! his letters aren't a code you have to crack. no amount of arguing or tumblr-level analysis is going to one day reveal a rhetorically airtight internally consistent worldview spanning jrrt's fiction, academic work, and personal writings, thereby "solving" the question of whether he was a woke king or your conservative uncle. his ideology was extremely inconsistent because, at the end of the day, he was just some guy.
You’ll all sleep a lot better when you realise that actually most people, rather than being purity in human form or evil incarnate, are in fact just some guy.

I'm certain this is on Tumblr somewhere, but I haven't seen it around, so I'm sharing it myself

THIS IS SO FUN 10/10 WOULD RECCOMEND
idk if people on tumblr know about this but a cybersecurity software called crowdstrike just did what is probably the single biggest fuck up in any sector in the past 10 years. it's monumentally bad. literally the most horror-inducing nightmare scenario for a tech company.
some info, crowdstrike is essentially an antivirus software for enterprises. which means normal laypeople cant really get it, they're for businesses and organisations and important stuff.
so, on a friday evening (it of course wasnt friday everywhere but it was friday evening in oceania which is where it first started causing damage due to europe and na being asleep), crowdstrike pushed out an update to their windows users that caused a bug.
before i get into what the bug is, know that friday evening is the worst possible time to do this because people are going home. the weekend is starting. offices dont have people in them. this is just one of many perfectly placed failures in the rube goldburg machine of crowdstrike. there's a reason friday is called 'dont push to live friday' or more to the point 'dont fuck it up friday'
so, at 3pm at friday, an update comes rolling into crowdstrike users which is automatically implemented. this update immediately causes the computer to blue screen of death. very very bad. but it's not simply a 'you need to restart' crash, because the computer then gets stuck into a boot loop.
this is the worst possible thing because, in a boot loop state, a computer is never really able to get to a point where it can do anything. like download a fix. so there is nothing crowdstrike can do to remedy this death update anymore. it is now left to the end users.
it was pretty quickly identified what the problem was. you had to boot it in safe mode, and a very small file needed to be deleted. or you could just rename crowdstrike to something else so windows never attempts to use it.
it's a fairly easy fix in the grand scheme of things, but the issue is that it is effecting enterprises. which can have a looooot of computers. in many different locations. so an IT person would need to manually fix hundreds of computers, sometimes in whole other cities and perhaps even other countries if theyre big enough.
another fuck up crowdstrike did was they did not stagger the update, so they could catch any mistakes before they wrecked havoc. (and also how how HOW do you not catch this before deploying it. this isn't a code oopsie this is a complete failure of quality ensurance that probably permeates the whole company to not realise their update was an instant kill). they rolled it out to everyone of their clients in the world at the same time.
and this seems pretty hilarious on the surface. i was havin a good chuckle as eftpos went down in the store i was working at, chaos was definitely ensuring lmao. im in aus, and banking was literally down nationwide.
but then you start hearing about the entire country's planes being grounded because the airport's computers are bricked. and hospitals having no computers anymore. emergency call centres crashing. and you realised that, wow. crowdstrike just killed people probably. this is literally the worst thing possible for a company like this to do.
crowdstrike was kinda on the come up too, they were starting to become a big name in the tech world as a new face. but that has definitely vanished now. to fuck up at this many places, is almost extremely impressive. its hard to even think of a comparable fuckup.
a friday evening simultaneous rollout boot loop is a phrase that haunts IT people in their darkest hours. it's the monster that drags people down into the swamp. it's the big bag in the horror movie. it's the end of the road. and for crowdstrike, that reaper of souls just knocked on their doorstep.
