sometimes at work there'll be a small child who is uncontrollably sobbing & the adult with them just ignores them. goes round the shop while the kid bawls, leaves with the kid still bawling. and okay i recognise sometimes a child does not want to go to the supermarket but there is no alternative. however it is the ignoring. that gets me. that kinda pulls me out my body with the degree to which it is the root of all problems

today's kid, the adult with her did ask "what's wrong?" several times. but did not once actually listen to her response. and each time i made eye contact with her she stopped crying. and then she was pushed away and she started again

It's a shadow of a clue that suggests it might lead to a clue. Keep the reader guessing whether they're even reading
