looking for some skincare/acne advice (feel free to scroll on by since this isn’t a fandom-related post!) i apologize for posting on here and i might delete later but i feel very lost and would greatly appreciate some help

so basically i’m looking for some advice on how to manage severe/cystic acne. i’ve had some pretty nasty cystic acne since fourth grade. this year in particular, however, it’s gotten so so much worse to the point where it’s seriously impacting my mental well-being. as ridiculous as it sounds, i can’t even look in the mirror anymore without having a breakdown.

i’m actually making this point right now because my entire right cheek is bright red, swollen, and possibly infected and i’m not sure what to do!

i’m not able to take myself to the doctor, and my parents refuse to because it’s too much effort on their part. so basically that’s out of the question, which is why i’m making this post in the first place.

i could go on a whole rant about how this has impacted my life up until now, about how incredibly painful and draining it is to deal with, but i’ll spare the details and just say that it would be very helpful if anyone had any tips with managing it!

i drink lots of water and have a balanced diet, so i doubt it’s anything trivial like that. it’s definitely not a hygiene issue, because i have a very in-depth routine with making sure i keep myself and everything i touch/use clean. i wash my face twice a day, use moisturizer, and at night use an over-the-counter product called diferin (though it doesn’t seem to really be doing much). i will admit that i have a bit of a picking problem, but i firmly believe that that isn’t the only factor here. literally all i have to do is brush a piece of hair off my forehead and the next day there’s a big ole pimple. i’m pretty sure it’s a combination of insanely oily skin, huge pores, and nasty hormones. shout out to my genes.

so yeah! has anyone else had to deal with this? does anyone have any tips for things i could add to my routine/improve on? any product recommendations? anything at all would be helpful! thank you for reading this far, i really appreciate it!
