Hi, I just stopped by to check to see how things were going!

Hey, it's unmasked queen, aka Meghan, aka the founder of this blog. Sadly I have removed myself from practically all of my social media (for reasons), but I am in tears now at how people haven't let this blog die and that people are still helping people. I read that Mitchell doesn't come on much anymore, but buddy, if you're listening, my gosh you were the best member/admin/human ever for this and I am so glad I chose you to help me with this blog. I miss you all so much. To any new members, keep this blog strong and I thank you for continuing it instead of letting it die. I remember when I started it, it was just me, and then I needed help making daily posts and then the followers kept adding up and we kept getting more questions and we always needed more people to help. Hi! I am demisexual and demiromantic. It took me a long time to figure this out and I felt broken and wrong for a long time. Now I feel great that I know, but I have no contact with other people on the ace spectrum. I'm not out to many people and those who do know don't understand or think it's kind of a joke. I get really sad sometimes that I don't have anyone who shares my experiences or really knows me. Any advice on dealing with the loneliness or connecting with other aces?

I’m sorry you’ve been feeling lonely and sad!

I’ve been lucky to have several friends come out around the same time I did (actually slightly before, really). 

But one of the best ways that I’ve found community and solidity in my identity is through this blog! If you wanted to help mod we’d be happy to have you! Its really a great way to hear stories about demi folks and feel less alone. Also you could start a blog of your own!

The only other advice I’d have is to write. Writing, even when its never read can often help me when I’m feeling lonely. 

I hope this is at least a little helpful!

I always wondered why I never had sexual feelings for just any person. I recently started a relationship with a genderfluid who informed me that by loving and being attracted to them that I wasn't straight. I gladly learned that I was demisexual <3

Hi! Lately ive been veeeery questioning. Ive mainly identified as asexual recently but the term feels wrong for me! I feel like I could possibly be demi-bisexual but I dont know how to know for sure. Ive never experienced sexual attration for anyone yet and I feel very annoying constantly switching my sexuality because im very unsure. Im just so confused right now in my life :(

Sexuality is a confusing thing! And it can definitely be frustrating not having answers. My general advice is to just find a label that feels pretty good and stop using it if it no longer feels right. My only thought might be that gray-asexual could be a good label for you? Because you seem to be sure that you’re somewhere on the ace spectrum, but you’re not sure exactly what that means. I wish you luck in your journey, and feel free to come back with more questions! <3 ~Callie

I want to be honest and say that since I’m not demiromantic I’mnot an expert on this, but to the best of my understanding:

Aromantics - do not experience romantic attraction toothers. Aromantics may experience other kinds of attraction (sexual,aesthetic), but don’t experience romantic attraction no matter howwell they know a person.Grayromantics - experiencelimited romantic attraction. This can be different for differentpeople. eg. grayromantics may very occassionally experience romanticattraction, or may experience romantic attraction but not desireromantic relationships.

Demiromantics - experience romantic attraction only after a strong bond has formed with a person. (There can be overlap with grayromantic, or someone could identify as both).I hope this is helpful!

There are certainly more identities on the spectrum, but these highlight points in the spectrum that I understand the best.

Whats allosexual?

Allosexual is the opposite end of the spectrum from Asexual. 

It’s similar to “heterosexual” in that it is the societal norm of what sexual attraction looks like. Folks who are not on the ace spectrum are allosexual.

when poussey kisses her she says she’s “not like that” but cuddling is fine and she obviously enjoys that - why is everyone assuming she means she’s straight?

when she yells at p in the library she never says the issue is that she liked her, it’s that she liked her “like that” and “wanted her to take off her clothes and shit” - those are not the words of someone uncomfortable with a lesbian. those are the words of someone uncomfortable with sex.

she jokes about sex but it’s /always/ a joke. “a nubian king with a nubian thing”? come on. she uses it like a punchline. she uses it like an ace.

can you imagine? if any show were to have some ace representation, i could see it being orange is the new black. and can you imagine it being TAYSTEE? the fan favorite, loud and happy and dancing - sings like an angel, stings like a bee - can you imagine? taystee saying, “no, i’m asexual. not like a fucking plant, like a person. i just don’t like it.” can you IMAGINE? allosexual people being forced to see an ace character who wasn’t a novelty or a joke or treated like it was a disorder? can you imagine allosexual people actually /hearing/ the word asexual on one of the most popular tv shows that exists right now? can you even imagine?

I'm really struggling to understand my sexuality right now. I have no interest or attraction to sex or physical intimacy. I love my boyfriend (in a heterosexual relationship) and I enjoy making him feel pleasure, but if I never had sex again I'd probably be fine. I don't know what to make of this.

I definitely don’t know for sure. Sexuality is a complicated, sometime fluid thing. Finding a label that feels good to you is the best thing you do, and if it changes with time that’s alright!

But based on your story two things come to mind based on accounts I’ve heard from other people. 

1- You might be asexual. There are asexuals who don’t experience sexual attraction and don’t need sex, but feel happy to have sex because it makes their partner happy. Do you experience sexual attraction to people generally? Have you had sex with other people that you enjoyed and wanted (not just for the other person?)

2- This one is pretty different, but I’ve actually talked to a lot of girls who have boyfriends that they love and care about and have sex with, but they really feel like something is missing. Sometimes this is a product of compulsive heterosexuality. These girls were sexually attracted to other girls, but because they were taught all their lives that they should be interested in boys they came to have crushes on boys and have relationships with boys. I have friends who never really realized that it was a possibility that they could be sexually attracted to girls until something happened with a girl. Even the most accepting, loving heterosexual parents are products of a very heteronormative world. But maybe that isn’t you!

If you really aren’t sexually attracted to other people, even ones that you love, you might be asexual! Definitely feel free to try on different labels and see how they feel.
