I actually knew this intuitively about quite a few American dialects. You really can hear it, especially with regards to Louisiana. But this also minimizes the African and in some cases Native influences on languages as well. Listen closely and you can hear those too. Cause if you dont include the African and other influences, even Haitian, etc. in shaping modern day Louisiana and other accents, then there is something missing. I loved to hear her do it out loud though. I think I have somewhere between Virginia Tidewater and Deep South with a tiny bit of Louisiana from my grandfather and great grandmother.
