Penelope Crosby sat in her room at her desk. She was finishing up school work, but decided last minute to go on instagram live. Her parents knew of her account and it definitely wasn’t a secret that hockey fans also knew. Sometimes her parents would make brief appearances on her account. She knew most people followed her for her dad anyways.
She propped her phone against a candle and watched as her viewer count started to rise. Some of the viewers starting spamming with likes and comments.
“Hi, how’s everyone today?” Penelope asked, lowering the volume on her tv that was playing Phoebe Bridgers. “What am I doing? I am doing my history homework. Unlike my dad, I’m not the biggest fan of history. The thing that gets me is the dates, I’m horrible with numbers.”
Once in a while, Penelope would write some answers on her homework then go back to answering questions on her phone.
“What shade is my nail color? I’m not sure, hold on, I have the bottle in my bathroom. I’ll be right back.” Penelope walked to her bathroom that was outside of her room, leaving the viewers with a clear view of her room.

As Penelope searched for the bottle of nail polish in the bathroom, the viewers got a glimpse of Sidney. Well, not entirely. The older man was calling out for Penelope, but he didn’t get a response so he went up to her room.
“Pen? Did you hear me?” Sidney’s voice was heard, but with the way Penelope’s camera was facing forward, the viewers couldn’t see him.
“What?” Penelope arrived back to her room. “Sorry, I was looking for my nail polish in the bathroom.”
“I was just going to ask if you want to come with mom and i to get pizza.” Sidney said, which only made the viewers go crazy at the thought of Sidney Crosby being together again with his ex wife. Everyone had seen the tweets and memes of the divorce being the reason why the penguins hadn’t made the playoffs in recent years.
“I’m okay, I still need to finish my homework.” Penelope replied and went back to her desk.
“Okay, text me if you want anything else. Grandma and Grandpa are downstairs.” Sidney said then left with his keys in hand.
Penelope looked back at her comments and held in her laughter as she saw them freak out. “You guys are insane,” she chuckled then showed the bottle of nail polish so she could share what shade she was wearing. “Do you have two rooms? Yeah obviously. Wait that sounded mean. I promise I wasn’t trying to be, but yes I do have two rooms. I have this one at my dad’s house and one in my mom’s house in Cole Harbour.”
Penelope then showed a picture of her room back in Nova Scotia on her IPad. She had recently moved her stuff around at took a handful of pictures because she wanted to see a before and after.
“I spend more time in this one, but during the summer and other school breaks, I come back here,” Penelope explained. She then went back to reading comments. One caught her eye which was a user asking about the divorce. “Do you find it difficult having divorced parents? I mean like with you having them in two different countries. Sorry if my question seems to personal, my parents are recently divorced lol.”
“Don’t be sorry! I don’t really talk about my parents’ divorce, mostly because they’re very private people, so I’ll do my best to explain without exposing too much. Um, sometimes I do. It was mostly in the very beginning. I’m sixteen now and they divorced when I was thirteen. I was just entering my teens so when they told me they were separating, I took it very hard. I didn’t understand why after nearly eighteen years together, they were leaving each other. For those of you who don’t know, my parents started dating when they were in high school, but they knew other since they were kids. So yeah it was difficult for me. I think I didn’t talk to either of my parents for like two weeks. I would shake my head yes or no.”
Penelope explained as best as she could. She knew how private her parents were and she knew she had to be careful with that she said.
“I wasn’t alright with it because I had always seen them so in love, but I learned to live with it. They’re both still friends and I am lucky enough to still have both of them in my life.”
The teen girl watched as some comments stated that they were crying at how mature she sounded while others recalled their experiences with divorced parents.
“Have you seen the divorce memes?” Penelope read a comment which only made her slap her hand over her mouth. She didn’t want the viewers to see how funny she thought the memes were. “I’ll admit it, you guys are crazy.”

“Wait, hold it up and smile. Dad, smile better!” Penelope demanded as she took a photo of her mom and dad, a hockey puck between them that was being held up by Sidney. It was the puck that got him his one thousand seven hundredth career point and of course he wanted Y/n to take a picture with him and the puck.
“I feel like we’re back in Rimouski.” Y/n commented which brought a smile to Sidney’s lips. She remembered all the times she would watch him score a goal then take pictures with the puck. It was very early on in their relationship that the picture tradition started. As the Crosby family took pictures, the penguins social media team captured the moment for their account.
“Take it back home?” Sidney handed the puck to Y/n.
Penelope had taken her pictures then started a very serious conversation about hockey cards with Kris and Geno. Her collection was growing each day and so far, she was yet to find either of the men she called her uncles.
“Are we even sure they’re divorced?” Kris pointed at the ex couple who looked too cozy with each other. Y/n was backed up against the wall talking to Sidney who was right next to her with the biggest smile on his face.
“Too in love. Maybe they are dating?” Geno suggested.
“Whatever it is, I think everybody online wants them back. I get so many messages about them, it’s insane.” Penelope replied.
“Who knows, maybe they might surprise us and get back together,” Kris added. They watched as Sidney then wrapped his arms around Y/n for a hug that lasted a good thirty seconds. (Kris was counting) Penelope then said her goodbyes to her dad’s teammates and joined her parents. The mother and daughter had the next flight back to Halifax in exactly four hours.
“Can’t we stay until tomorrow?” Penelope gave Sidney a side hug, keeping her arms wrapped around his waist.
“You’ve missed enough days, babe, you can’t miss more. I promise we’ll be back soon.” Y/n said.
“Thanks for coming though. It’s always a good game when I have both my girls here.” Sidney replied, pressing a kiss to the top of Penelope’s head.
Penelope then gasped when she remembered the Olympic Games were coming up. “Can I go with you to Milan? Please! Please! Please! I hardly remember the other games. All I got are pictures.”
“That’s up to your mom, Pen.” Sidney turned his attention towards his ex wife.
“Mommy, my beautiful mother! Light of my life!” Penelope let go of Sidney and walked to her mother, who started laughing at the tactic that was being used on her.
“Well I better see those grades up if you want to go to Milan, young lady!”

You were thirty-two weeks pregnant, running on exactly three hours of sleep, a half-eaten protein bar, and the kind of determination that only true love or stubbornness could fuel.
“I swear to God,”
You mumbled under your breath, lowering yourself slowly into the cushioned WAGs section seat at Madison Square Garden.
“If I have to pee before second period again, I’m filing a complaint with the universe.”
A couple of the girls around you laughed. You were trying to be a good sport.
Really.
But your back hurt, your feet were starting to swell, and the baby, William, named weeks ago and already kicking like a future athlete was currently headbutting your bladder.
Still, you were here.
Because Matt was playing.
And that meant you would be too.
You and Matt never played the ‘secret relationship’ game. From the first time paparazzi caught him picking you up from a late-night table read, to your surprise wedding announcement last fall, your life together had been on full display. You were an Emmy-winning actress with a decade in the spotlight. He was the NHL’s favorite giant with fists of fury and a heart made of marshmallows.
When you got pregnant, it wasn’t a leak. It was an announcement, joint Instagram posts, interviews, baby bump on late night shows.
Matt didn’t want to hide a single second.
“He’s already the best thing I’ve ever done,”
He said during a pregame interview once.
“Well, besides marrying Y/N. But I think he gonna be taller than both of us combined.”
You’d blushed watching that clip.
You were always blushing when it came to him.
The first period started slow.
The Rangers were struggling to get on the board. You sipped water, adjusting your jersey with Rempe stitched across your shoulders and tried not to let your body complain too loudly.
Matt skated hard. You could see it even from here. Shoulders tense, eyes sharp, jaw set.
He’d told you this morning, rubbing your belly as you lay in bed, that he had a ‘feeling’ about tonight.
“I’m scoring one,”
He said confidently, tracing light circles on your bump.
“For you. And for him.”
“You sure he’s not gonna kick every time you check someone into the boards?” you teased.
“He’s my kid. He’ll love it.”
Second period. Still 0-0.
You shifted again, trying to ignore the growing ache in your lower back. Emelie reached over and handed you a little heating pad, pre-warmed in her bag.
“You good?” she whispered.
You nodded.
“Just feel like I’m carrying a future linebacker.”
“He’s gonna come out skating,”
She said with a wink. “Helmet and all.”
You laughed quietly, one hand resting instinctively over your stomach. William gave a little kick back, like he was listening. You smiled to yourself. He always kicked during games.
Always when Matt was close.
Midway through the third period, tension was thick. The game was still tied. Fans were getting louder. The announcers were probably frothing at the mouth.
You were about to shift again when you saw it.
Matt on the breakaway.
He caught a pass, controlled it clean, dodged a defender with surprising grace for a guy his size, and shot a laser right through the goalie’s glove side.
GOAL.
The crowd exploded.
So did your heart.
But it wasn’t until Matt turned, skating backwards with a smile that could light the city, that he did it.
He looked right at your section.
Pointed directly at you.
And yelled, loud enough that every mic caught it.
“For my Y/N and William!”
You clapped a hand over your mouth.
The arena lost it.
You heard shrieks, gasps, cheers. Phones went up. The camera flashed to your stunned, overwhelmed face. You were crying, actual, hormonal tears while laughing.
You waved back, breath catching.
Matt grinned like a man who’d just won something bigger than any game.
By the time he got off the ice, he was still glowing.
You met him in the tunnel, security easing the crowd aside.
“Hey,” he breathed, sweaty and grinning.
“You said his name,” you said, eyes still glassy.
“I told you,”
He shrugged, stepping close, careful hands brushing your arms,
“I had a feeling.”
You reached up, cupped his jaw.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“And you love me for it.”
He kissed you gently, sweetly, like the world had shrunk down to just the two of you.
“I’m taking you home,”
He said, rubbing your bump.
“You need to eat and rest and let me brag about our boy kicking mid-goal like a true Rempe.”
You snorted. “He was kicking because I almost peed myself when you screamed.”
“Same thing.”
Back at your apartment, you curled up in bed with Matt at your side and William doing gentle flips in your belly. The TV was on, but muted, the sports segment was playing your clip on a loop.
You and Matt. His shout. Your reaction. The Internet’s obsession.
You rolled your eyes playfully.
“We’re trending again.”
“I hope he’s not camera shy,”
Matt said, kissing your temple.
“Honestly?” you whispered, leaning into him,
“He’s going to be just like you.”
Matt grinned, palm resting on your stomach, feeling for the next little kick.
