Daniel Sloss is the only comedian who does really dark comedy well without it being so violently offensive and vile because he makes sure that whoever he’s targeting is in on the joke or that he’s punching up. except when it comes to vegans

They don't want us to call what's happening in Gaza a genocide not because there's not been an official ruling but because these things don't get set in people's minds via official ruling. Instead it is the oral history that sets an event into place in mass consciousness.
Us calling it what it is - a genocide - means they can't wriggle out of it in years to come. They can't continue to call it a conflict or a war if we cement it in public consciousness as a genocide.
So don't tone down your language. Call it what it is. Make sure the history books know what happened and the genocides that took place in Palestine, Sudan, Congo.
Denial and control of language is a powerful tool for genocide supporters, especially for soft supporters.
Genocide relies on a lot of acquiescence and denial and complacency and pretending it's not happening.
Genocide relies on a lot of what Sartre calls "bad faith" ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_faith_(existentialism) ). This is different from the rhetoric of lying to another, but is about lying to oneself.
Calling these genocides what they are challenges that comfortable self-deception and challenges the load bearing lie that "I am a good person if I just collaborate with power".

Watched a great talk today about web/technology accessibility, and the speaker pointed out that yes, accessibility is important for people with permanent disabilities, and we should definitely care about that. But also accessibility helps EVERYBODY, because everybody will, at some point in their lives, find themselves in situations that accessible technology can help with. Here are permanent, temporary, and situational disabilities that accessible technology can help with:
Remember that whether something is disabling or not depends on the situation, the environment, the technology, etc. We’re ALL disabled at some point. It is important to support permanently disabled people, but it is also important to remember that accessibility helps us all!

I found it interesting that people interpreted his message roughly as, “Love isn’t real.”
The message I got from Jigsaw was, “Most people in relationships are incompatible with their partners, and we need to consider how the person we love fits into our life & our plans for the future.”
