By: @swedishdentalstudents 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭:✨ One of term 5’s most rememberable highlights was to take dental x-rays on patients - we had 1 patient per week, during a period of 5 weeks. Before getting introduced to the patient-dentist relationship, we had the opportunity to practice placing the detector on each other. One week later, we were randomly assigned in pairs, the professor went through the patient’s anamnesis, old images and handed us 1 patient/pair👥. During 3 hours, we needed to take all the necessary images, the professor examined them and we were able to retake those who didn’t get approved. Thereafter, the pairs needed to go through the images, review them and write a report that was presented in a small group🗣. The purpose of the presentations was to start a dialogue between students & professors🦷. ▫️ ❓𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞:❓ During term 4, we only practiced taking x-ray on craniums, so this term the purpose was to manage taking x-ray on patients. Additionally, learning to see pathological lesions on the images and to write a good report (which still can be difficult at times😅) ▫️ 💬𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:💬 Since radiology was one of the most challenging courses during term 4, just the thought of having patients was nerve racking😶. We were able to work in pairs, but later on when the pandemic restrictions became more strict in Sweden, some of us needed to work alone while others continued to take x-rays on a cranium💀. From this experience we learned that every single patient is unique, therefore the “techniques” of taking x-ray will differentiate. The first patient may have all their teeth, but the next may be toothless - and that’s when the process gets harder for a beginner who hasn’t seen a toothless patient before and doesn’t know how to stabilize the detector. Additionally; no matter how many videos you’ve watched - in the end, a lot is about experience. For example, our first patient felt more discomfort than our last, because she/he quickly noticed that we were stressed out and uncertain. So, to all the students that think x-rays are difficult to take, do not give up, the process will get easier! Keep calm and take the images in your pace🥰 ..... https://www.instagram.com/p/CJTpQ8qnngN/?igshid=jwg9wctzeqfa
