Mental illness is so fucking shit like not only do you have to fight to get better, you have to fight like hell to WANT to get better
3 types of self soothing thoughtsÂ
Validation: itâs ok that I hurt and want to feel better
Reassurance: I can handle this pain even though it hurtsÂ
Perspective taking: Iâve had bad days like this before and Iâve made it through them. I can remember my better days and know Iâm not always hurting this muchÂ
Itâs okay if it takes you longer.
Whatever âitâ is.
Itâs okay if you get held back a year.
Itâs okay if all your friends have licenses and you donât
Itâs okay if you havenât gotten your first job yet
Itâs okay if you need more time
Everyone moves at a different pace.
Antidepressants are:Â
â A type of medication designed to make you feel better when ill. Just like any other medicine
â Your own choice whether to take or not.
Antidepressants are not:
â Scary personality-altering drugs
â A sign of weakness
â A moral issue.
â A source of âartificialâ happiness
â Â Anyoneâs business but your own.
After a year or so of not posting Iâve finally decided to resurrect this blog. Mainly because my olâ friend depression has decided to return, this time with a jazzy new hat. So hello again folks. Thanks for sticking with me. Please do drop me a message to let me know how youâre all doing :)Â
There are days that I cannot find the sun even though its right outside my goddamn window.

Everything Is Awful and Iâm Not Okay: questions to ask before giving up
Are you hydrated? Â If not, have a glass of water.
Have you eaten in the past three hours? Â If not, get some food â something with protein, not just simple carbs. Â Perhaps some nuts or hummus?
Have you showered in the past day? Â If not, take a shower right now.
If daytime: are you dressed? Â If not, put on clean clothes that arenât pajamas. Â Give yourself permission to wear something special, whether itâs a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress.
If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but resisting going to sleep? Â Put on pajamas, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your eyes for fifteen minutes â no electronic screens allowed. Â If youâre still awake after that, you can get up again; no pressure.
Have you stretched your legs in the past day? Â If not, do so right now. Â If you donât have the spoons for a run or trip to the gym, just walk around the block, then keep walking as long as you please. Â If the weatherâs crap, drive to a big box store (e.g. Target) and go on a brisk walk through the aisles you normally skip.
Have you said something nice to someone in the past day? Â Do so, whether online or in person. Â Make it genuine; wait until you see something really wonderful about someone, and tell them about it.
Have you moved your body to music in the past day? Â If not, do so â jog for the length of an EDM song at your favorite BPM, or just dance around the room for the length of an upbeat song.
Have you cuddled a living being in the past two days? Â If not, do so. Â Donât be afraid to ask for hugs from friends or friendsâ pets. Â Most of them will enjoy the cuddles too; youâre not imposing on them.
Do you feel ineffective? Â Pause right now and get something small completed, whether itâs responding to an e-mail, loading up the dishwasher, or packing your gym bag for your next trip. Â Good job!
Do you feel unattractive? Â Take a goddamn selfie. Â Your friends will remind you how great you look, and youâll fight societyâs restrictions on what beauty can look like.
Do you feel paralyzed by indecision? Â Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a game plan for the day. Â If a particular decision or problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside for now, and pick something else that seems doable. Â Right now, the important part is to break through that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial.
Have you seen a therapist in the past few days? Â If not, hang on until your next therapy visit and talk through things then.
Have you been over-exerting yourself lately â physically, emotionally, socially, or intellectually? Â That can take a toll that lingers for days. Give yourself a break in that area, whether itâs physical rest, taking time alone, or relaxing with some silly entertainment.
Have you changed any of your medications in the past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a change in generic prescription brand? Â That may be screwing with your head. Â Give things a few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesnât settle down.
Have you waited a week? Â Sometimes our perception of life is skewed, and we canât even tell that weâre not thinking clearly, and thereâs no obvious external cause. Â It happens. Â Keep yourself going for a full week, whatever it takes, and see if you still feel the same way then.
Youâve made it this far, and you will make it through. Â You are stronger than you think.
Long time, no blog. Apologies for the absence, hope you're all doing well and kicking that lying bastard's ass as much as you possibly can.
The world is difficult, and we are all breakable. So just be kind.
Caitlin Moran -Â How to Build a Girl (via quotable-notable)
The people who love you Really Do love you. Your friends donât secretly hate you. You matter to people. You are loved. Learn to believe it even if you think it isnât true.
I once said to my therapist after a particularly hard week, âI wish I could just fix all of my problems and move on to live a normal lifeâ And he looked at me and said, âThere is no finish lineâ.
Those words felt like a stab in my heart, but they were words that I desperately needed to hear. There is no finish line to my problems. Itâs not possible to get through a certain point in life and have my problems simply disappear. And itâs unhealthy to think that way. Up to that point in my life, thatâs what I though recovery was. I thought it was like working your way forward until it seems like your problems never existed in the first place.
The finish line does not exist. Instead, everyone has a capacity for recovery. You may never completely rid yourself of whatever causes you pain, but you will move miles from where you started. Donât set your expectations too high and create that theoretical finish line in your life, or you will only end up chasing it. Instead, focus on your own capacity for recovery, and be proud of yourself for every step you take.
Depression is also smaller than you. Always itâs smaller than you, even when it feels vast. It operates within you. You donât operate within it. It may be a dark cloud passing across the sky, but if thatâs the metaphor, you are the sky. You were there before it and the cloud canât exist without the sky. But the sky can exist without the cloud.

Some Questions to Ask When Things Go Wrong
Ask yourself:
1. Is this something I should take seriously and try to put right; is it something that is worth working on, and investing more energy on?
2. How much is my fault? Is it something I can change further down the road?
3. How much is outside my control; will anything I do really alter the situation or make a lasting difference?
5. Have I done everything I possibly can? Have I tried and exhausted all possible options?
6. Is it something I should put behind me, and decide to walk away from?
7. Who else has gone through a similar experience, or had this happen to them? Who can I talk to who will understand, and give me valuable help and advice?
8. What can I learn from this experience?
9. How can I build myself up again, so I have the needed strength to go forward in my life?
10. What small steps can I take to enhance my self-esteem?
