It means don’t play when you’re not having fun. This can mean games, genres, groups, GMs, scheduling, stress, tone, or just not meshing with it. All TTRPGs are about collaboratively telling a story. If you’re not having fun, you’re spending time doing something that sucks for literally no gain. It sours you, whether on the hobby, the friends, or the specific game.

It’s a really popular saying when you talk to more enfranchised players of basically any RPG, because we ALL have a horror story, or at the very least know a thousand, about awful games. And they don’t even have to be awful! I have left games before they started because I got the sense that it wouldn’t be the kind of game I like!

And there’s ALWAYS another game you can join.
