LISTEN. LISTEN. Speaking as a certified A lover... they are by far the most likely to get something cringe and be totally unaware of it. least likely to get a tattoo for sure, but if they did, I can 100% see a papyrus font "duty above all else" or something wrapped around the shoulder LMAO
Beyond that, though, I do think they'd be more drawn to symbols than words. A sword somewhere on the torso would represent to them who they are and what they stand for, and also the life they've lived so far. the sword is modeled after the one they once owned, though the tattoo version has a little crack in the middle
I think if they were to get a tattoo for MC, it would be tiny- their initials, maybe, tucked somewhere private & intimate. it would be a very very very big deal to them (not that it wouldn't be to all of ub, just that I think A would have a very unique relationship with the idea of tattooing generally). they would not get anything else after- to them, it's a statement of how the mc has a kind of "place of honour" in their mind, and stands alone as someone they want to commemorate in this very special & specific way
Nothing for ub, I don't think!! they love them dearly, obviously, but wouldn't know how to begin to condense them and A's relationship to them into a tattoo. it would cross their mind but ultimately not come to fruition UNLESS one of them suggested matching tattoos for the four of them + mc, in which case they would relent if all the others did
Definitely opts for placements that can be easily covered, both for professionalism's sake and for their own privacy, considering whatever they got would be pretty personal. Back, shoulders, ribs, potentially chest.... (do urself a favor and picture Ava with a sword tattoo done right in the centre of her chest, so it's basically invisible until her bra comes off.... what was I talking about where am I)

N is the type of person to end up with a lot of ink not necessarily because they have any particular passion for tattooing itself, but because there are so many beautiful pieces of art and poetry and literature out there that of course they want to make it all a part of them!!
Absolutely has something in their mother tongue(s); either a phrase associated with their family, or potentially their family's names. This would be someplace special- either close to the heart, or inside the wrist so it's easy for N to look at & draw assurance from
Because they read so much, I don't think they necessarily have EVERY quote that's ever touched them inked in its entirety- even as tall as they are, they simply do not have the real estate for this lmao. instead, I like to think they have one or two quotes they truly truly love (maybe something that reminds them of their own life, something that reminds them of unit bravo), and other than that mostly have little symbols that represent other works
would ABSOLUTELY go for a matching tattoo with a romanced MC. it would be something small and intimate (because they love you but are not going to get your initials tattooed in 48 point font on their bicep like a crazy person, please be serious), like their nickname for MC or a little version of their favourite flower or some such. would get this either over the heart OR someplace a bit scandalous, like low on the hip
Placement wise I think they could actually be a full sleeve person?? wouldn't like the look of random designs scattered all over them, would want to consolidate it all somewhere. the sleeve would essentially be a collage of all the art and all the people they've ever loved, basically telling the story of their life. they would often look over it all fondly and get very sappy I think!!
M
M to me, sensory issues aside, seems fairly likely to get tattooed. they know they're already hot, and they know that tattoos would only make them more edgy and alluring and intimidating. they have a fairly lax approach to the whole process, never otherthinking it
couldn't (and wouldn't, I don't think?) get something to honour their past, and I think they'd be too embarrassed to get something for unit bravo, which leaves mainly Aesthetic options. lots of abstract patterns and swirls which somehow still manage to convey their vibe perfectly. possibly a little pair of fangs somewhere as a kind of inside joke
I can see them with ONE really stupid tattoo that they refuse to ever talk about that they got as a result of losing a bet to F. they have absolutely lied about its origins to people they've hooked up with to try and make it seem cool and mysterious and it really hasn't worked
I do think that they would get something for the MC, not necessarily as a matching thing. something very very intricate and slightly abstract which doesn't really make sense when viewed by strangers, but would make sense to M and that's all that matters to them
lots around the biceps to accentuate them. the MC tattoo would be spread over their back, around the backs of the shoulders & shoulder blades like wings. they have something really cliché and kind of trashy in a private spot too, like a kiss mark on the hip bone, which they literally only get away with because they're so hot lmao
F
F's tattoos have the exact opposite effect as M's. they are beautiful and full of colour and splashed all over, making them immediately look full of life and approachable
F is impulsive and will get tattoos for all kinds of things- N is always warning them to be more discerning but they have yet to regret anything!! They are a gallery of cool stuff they saw on Pinterest, cute little animals, flowers, tiny sparkles and flourishes... little kids LOVE coming up to them in the street and examining them up close
If M has a pair of fangs, it's ironic and meant to be kind of sexy. F definitely has a pair of fangs, and it was a 100% sincere decision that they find hilarious and delightful
I think they'd be down to get something for a bff!MC, actually- maybe a friendship bracelet around the wrist, or something symbolising an inside joke
For a romanced MC, would absolutely get something with them and would not care at all if it were cheesy. would get their name in a heart, their nicknames for one another, something F felt represented them (a little book with their initials on it for a super bookish mc, etc.) and would put it somewhere easily accessible so they can show it off to people whenever they wanted
They have tattoos all over. back, back of neck, arms, ankles, chest... they see no reason to be strict with placement!!
bonus, my mc Lauren:
not a tattoo girl at heart due to the whole crippling fear of commitment thing, but if she got something, it would be tiny and meaningful
basic as hell but I do think she would get "strength" or maybe "freedom" in Hindi along the inside of her wrist. being able to speak/read Hindi is deeply meaningful to her, and she would like having something inspiring in a place she can look at easily whenever she needs encouragement
she's a book nerd at heart and would totally get one of those minimalist bookish tattoos. it would most likely be a reference to a female character she really loved- my top contender rn is a hand gripping a sword coming out of water to represent the lady of the lake, bc arthuriana is huge for her
would NOT get something for Adam bc that's embarrassing.... yes maybe she happened to get a tattoo around the time he got his for her and yeah maybe it reminds her of him and she happens to look at it when she misses him WHATEVER shut UP FARAH it's a COINCIDENCE

The Freshman: first time through I went for James (not white). He was sexy and interesting, but thennn they changed his face and he became a huge nerd/dork instead of mysterious like he was at first. Ended up ditching him for Zig (looks white… except he’s Latino so he ain’t really white)😰 My MC was the medium skinned one and in my headcannon she’s Latina

Endless Summer: started out with Sean. Got to book 3, hadn’t used any diamonds, and got soo bored of him because he was just so… good and not very interesting. Ended up restarting, going for Jake and spent looootsa diamonds. I was the African American MC.

HSS: Went for Caleb. He was the cutest and narrative seemed to push me that way. Never restarted but kinda wish I’d have gone for Michael (kinda like in ES I went for Jake). But it has nothing to do with skin color, I just think they aren’t too interesting. I was the super white MC with blonde hair lol

HSS2: I’m going for Ajay. I was gonna go for Rory (I made him the black one bc I always want to make them black but then they smile and look like a horse. But I found Rory boring and went for Ajay who I love. Ajay looks Indian to me? Is that right?

TL;DR The majority of the dudes I choose are white but it’s because of their personality and nothing against the color. I like having diverse MCs so I switch it up often. Let people date who they want, but folks, don’t be racist.
Oh and also, even if I do mostly date white dudes in the games (partially due to paywalls around non-white LIs and a higher number of white options) it’s just coincidence since I only choose off of personality. Also also, my husband’s black so I think that trumps a choose-your-own story app 😂

I am, once again, thinking about N Sewell and one of their favorite books, Great Gatsby (which is also one of my favorite books). This is also partially inspired by the bonus content that was posted a few days ago! It's been on my mind ever since. Because of that, and because it’s more of a ramble than anything else, I’m putting the rest of this post under the break.
One big part of N’s character that intrigues me is the way they cling to their humanity. Or rather, whatever is left of it. They’ve spent so much of the last three centuries holding on as tight as they can to what they used to be, and it carries over into their love for reading and stories—which is also one of the main themes of Great Gatsby: holding onto the past, even when it kills you. Gatsby has spent years stubbornly holding onto the memories of the relationship he used to have with Daisy that his perception of the truth has been completely skewed. All he cares about is stopping time and turning back the clock. (There’s even a quote about it. “Can’t repeat the past? Why, of course you can!” And the tea scene, which is a personal favorite.)
He’s hung all of his hopes on having her again; we all know she’s the green light he keeps reaching for. (And the color green symbolizes so many things: wealth, prosperity, envy, to name a few that fit.) To Gatsby, Daisy is the living embodiment of all his desires. He isn’t in love with her so much as he is in love with the idea of her; she’s become a sort of status symbol to him. Something to project his desires onto. If he can have her, it means he’s achieved all he’s ever wanted. The wealth, the high-class life, the privilege, all of these things he’s been hungry for and has devoted himself to obtaining.
Similarly, turning was something that N never wanted. Having their mortality taken from them is a wound that has never healed, even after all these years; partially due to their own avoidance. N enjoys cooking. They eat human food. They lose themself in their books and the stories they adore so much, and all because they can’t handle the truth of their reality. N dives into their beloved stories with so much romanticism because it’s easier than facing what’s real, just as they play at still being human.
Which is part of what makes their relationship with the Detective in the romance route so interesting to me. Time and time again, we’ve seen the way N latches onto the Detective’s humanity. N makes off-hand (and presumptuous) comments about the Detective becoming a vampire in the future, and yet at the same time admits to themself that they don't want them to turn. N treasures their mortality and it’s easy to interpret part of that as them projecting onto the Detective; they don’t want what happened to them to happen to their partner. It is, in a way, N’s own method of stopping time and fixing the past. That isn’t to say that N doesn’t love the Detective, because they do, but there are definitely some parallels between the relationship they share with the Detective, and the one Gatsby and Daisy have. Green is even N’s color; we see them wearing it all the time.
N’s inability to face the truth is also reminiscent of our iconic narrator, Nick Carraway. Though he claims to be “one of the few honest men he has ever known,” he has an enormous blind spot when it comes to himself and to Gatsby. Despite how he insists on giving an unbiased opinion on the events that unfold, there’s an undeniable favoritism to his neighbor. Nick also plays a hand in setting up the affair between Gatsby and Daisy, and judges the people he interacts with throughout the book. Setting himself up as “honest” and unbiased—merely an outside spectator, nothing more—in the beginning only makes it easier for him to swallow everything that happens later on, even when they become unacceptable. Especially when this clearly isn’t the case, and he’s involved far more than he’s willing to, or capable of, admitting.
That kind of denial can be dangerous—not unlike how the idealist and romantic parts of N are equally enchanting as they are a concern. In their own way, N is just as unreliable as Nick. (Remember the, “Not with my own hands, no,” answer they give the Detective, after being asked if they’ve ever taken a life?) N prefers the dreamy notions found between the pages of their books and the denial of the part they ever played aboard The Queen’s Sabre over the cold and unsavory truth, even three hundred years after it happened. Just as they continue to pretend to still be human.
But you can’t hold onto the past forever, and you can’t keep lying to yourself. Blatant denial can only go so far, especially not when you have an eternity to live. Sooner or later you have to let go—or they will drown you. I’m just very interested in seeing the path N’s route takes in the future books. Their intentional avoidance could very well lead to their undoing (or at least a very fun read). They can learn how to face the truth, face the facts of what they’ve done and what they are… or they can let their stubbornness destroy them, and bring the Detective down with them.
