Sometimes, I just randomly think about FNL and then I want to cry all the tears in the world because it is beautiful and perfect, and the Taylors are beautiful and perfect.

Additionally, in case I haven’t mentioned it in the last eighteen minutes, I want so badly to be Tami Taylor when I grow up (because she’s beautiful and perfect).

It has been 5 years since I made this post and 8 years since FNL ended.

Tonight, I made the TERRIBLE life decision to start rewatching this show for lord only knows what reason besides that I hate myself and want to suffer.

I am only four episodes in and already everything hurts SO much and my heart is breaking over and over again and I know it’s never going to get better for as long as I watch, but my GOD do I ever love Tami Taylor. She is beautiful and perfect.

One overlooked thing that really sets the Lord of the Rings films apart from other franchises is how earnest they are-

Most movies are so afraid of being “cheesy” that whenever they say something like “friendship is the most powerful force in the world” they quickly undercut it with a joke to show We Don’t Really Believe That! ;)  Even Disney films nowadays have the characters mock their own movie’s tropes (”if you start singing, I’m gonna throw up!”) It’s like winking at the camera: “See, audience? We know this is ridiculous! We’re in on the joke!”

But Lord of the Rings is just 12.5 hours of friendship and love being the most powerful forces in the world, played straight. Characters have conversations about how much their home and family and friends mean to them, how hope is eternal, how there is so much in the world that’s worth living for…. and the film doesn’t apologize for that. There’s no winking at the audience about How Cheesy and Silly All This Is; it’s just. Completely in earnest.

And when Lord of the Rings does “lean on the fourth wall” to talk about storytelling within the film, it’s never to make jokes about How Ridiculous These Storytelling Tropes are (the way most films do)…. but instead to talk about how valuable these stories can be. Like Sam’s Speech at the end of the Two Towers: the greatest stories are ones that give you something to believe in, give you hope, that help you see there are things in a bleak violent world that are worth living for

day three: favorite season: autumn

Things have felt a little bit harder this past while, and I was thinking about my list of very good things and realized I hadn’t added to it in ages. I felt like I needed to remedy that so...

* The B99 Halloween saga, but especially (ESPECIALLY) season five’s: HalLOVEen.

* The Christmas release of Lush products. Hello, favourite bath bombs! It’s so nice to see you again...

* Finding out of print books in good condition but also for reasonable human prices.

* Bath and Body Works seasonal candles. Currently I’m on the tail end of Sweater Weather and Autumn, just in time for ones featuring winter bears and apple cider.

* Tiny fun sized Halloween candy.

* The fact that a number of students thought that the bandaid on my shin bone was a brand new cat tattoo. Apparently the placement was odd, but the design itself seemed in character.

* Safiya Nygard, Ruining History, and non terrifying Buzzfeed Unsolved YouTube video notifications (and the actual videos, of course.)

* A week’s worth of Halloween themed outfits.

* Crunchy leaves and crisp air.

* Looking through my tag of very good things and remembering some long forgotten but very sweet moments.
