“Well, I wouldn’t fully say I was afraid. More like totally grossed out by them and would prefer to have someone around I can scream for as soon as I see one.. but you know not afraid.” She was the daughter of a cop. She was not afraid of a lot of things.

Except spiders. Spiders she was absolutely terrified of.

Any bug really, and even as she tried to seem like a tough girl saying she wasn’t afraid in the back of her mind she could almost hear Barry laughing at her since he was usually the one who would get the spiders for her.

Used to be anyway.

She didn’t let that thought bring her down though, not with Eddie around. No he had a way just being around her making her happier in this sad time.

“You’re not afraid of them are you?” She teased, trying to take the heat off of herself

“Understandable. Spiders aren’t exactly the cutest things in the world.” He wasn’t afraid of them either but they did gross him out as well. Most of the time when he saw a spider, he either let it outside or squished it depending on the size.

Most of his fears weren’t necessarily physical. He could handle most of what he dealt with as a cop though the part of him that was self conscious tended to get the get the better of him sometimes despite the confidence he projected outwards.

“I wouldn’t say afraid,” he raised his hands to use air quotes and then dropped both back at his sides. “But if they’re bigger than my palm, I’m not getting anywhere near them.”

“Okay, we have pizza, the case files, and enough coffee to keep us up for days. Am I missing anything.” This case had been bugging the hell out of Laurel. She had good instincts but it seemed like anytime they got close, something would push the two of them another two steps back. “We are not leaving this room until we have solved this case. Got it, Eddie?”

And maybe this one almost felt personal. She needed to prove to herself that she hadn’t made it as far as she did because of her father. He wasn’t here anymore to talk cases over with or stand over her shoulder and make sure she stayed out of trouble. “This is my first big case and I won’t be known as the girl who dropped the ball when it was important.”

“I don’t think you’re missing anything.” The detective ran a hand almost tiredly down his face just after looking at all the case files piled up around them. Hopefully they could find some leads quick otherwise he had the feeling that they were going to be sitting here for a long while. “We got all the case solving essentials.”

Eddie gave a nod, offering a slight smile as he shoved a hand into one of his pockets and took a seat in the one of the two chairs situated at the table. Luckily there weren’t a lot people on duty tonight which meant minimal distractions in the office.
