Arthur: “Dutch, I don’ think this’s a good idea…”

Dutch: “You need to stop worrying so much, son, and trust me. Y/N’s been cooped up in camp for too long, and they could use a change of scenery.”

Arthur: “Yeah, but takin’ ‘em to Valentine?”

Dutch: “Faith, Arthur. Have faith. With me ‘n Hosea watching them, not much can go wrong.”

Arthur, in a thought bubble: *broken glass everywhere, animals loose in the streets, half the town is on fire*

Arthur: “I can think of a few things.”

Dutch, patting his shoulder: “Don’t doubt me, son. Y/N will be just fine.”

*A few hours later…*

Dutch, riding into camp, probably nearly mowing over whoever’s on watch: “Mr. Pearson! Mrs. Grimshaw! Time to pack up!”

Arthur, panicking: “Where’s Y/N, Dutch? What the hell happened?”

You, riding side-saddle on Hosea’s horse, looking like you might cry: “I… I just wanted to pet the dog…”

Hosea, to Arthur: “They tripped and fell, tried to stay on their feet by grabbing the gate to the stables, but ended up letting all the horses loose.”

Arthur: “Yeah, but do we really need to lea–”

Hosea: “The horses stampeded and trampled three people to death.”

Arthur: “But it was an accid–”

Hosea: “One of those people was the sheriff.”
