not to be that guy but theres a huge difference between "this religion and it's practitioners has aspects that warrant criticism" and "lmao look at them believing in things" . its one thing to call out the toxicity and spread of dangerous information in, as an example, pagan communities. it is an entirely separate thing to make fun of pagans for what they find sacred and important to their lives, even if it doesnt make sense to you.

I don’t think anything anybody writes in fanfics — as long as it’s not outright plagiarism or “I do xyz to other writers’ fanfics without their consent” — is ever “weird” (unless the writer wants it to be weird), “bad” or “wrong”. because the whole point of fanfics is that it’s a hobby and writers have full freedom to create whatever they want. I mean can they make their fics weird if that’s what they want? of course. weird isn’t necessarily a bad thing. but if you’re concerned about it because you don’t want it to be weird, then it… doesn’t have to be weird. because at the end of the day, you’re in full control of your works. “but what if other people think it’s weird?” if you ask me, I don’t ever care about what other people may think. because this is my hobby, my creation, something I do for myself.

one of the most common asks I receive is “is it wrong and/or bad and/or weird if I write xyz?” and I just… don’t get why we even care — let alone worry — about what strangers think about our hobbies and what we do for ourselves.

I can only speak for myself, but when I write, I write for me. not for anybody else. I share my works online, but that’s me being kind enough to let other people read my stuff. if they enjoy and support my works, then I appreciate them. I really do. if they don’t like my works, then it just means my works aren’t for them. which is absolutely fine. I never write for them to begin with anyway.

if I’m being honest, it surprised me to see how many fanfic writers worry about “strangers not liking their works” or “how strangers will think about their works” when the entire point of fanfics is that writers write whatever they want for themselves.

a genuine advice from me, you will find writing fanfics a lot more enjoyable if you start writing them for you.
