Reblog/like if you have 3a curly hair
Naomi is three today! yaaaaaaay the top is having some trouble locking but the end is feeling wonderful and thick. I know i’m fuzzywuzzy right now but I am really trying to avoid using any product other than aloe and organic shampoo at this point until i can afford some bees wax
Dooo not useee waxx ever!!! Seriously wax is one of the worst things for dreads. Please do your research 😓 your dread will be fine on its own just give it time!
Even in death you cannot respect a woman enough to use her name. How disgusting.
Jesus fucking Christ. She was a real life WARRIOR and the only thing these people value is her physical aesthetic. You have got to be fucking kidding me.
I cannot fucking believe this, she was a 19-year-old Kurdish woman with a name. NINETEEN-fucking-years-old and she led an all-female battalion against known ISIS groups in Syria, and they comment on her appearance before her rank, her age and don’t even use her fucking name? RIP Asia Ramazan Antar, you will be remembered.
So disrespectful.
RIP Asia Ramazan Antar, you will be remembered.
So… I never understood why people say that stretched ears smell.
Mine don’t? Like, ever? Unless I never clean them?
I wear silicone plugs though, so maybe that’s the difference. Idk.
Nah its just ppl who don't clean their ears or take care of them at all. I've never worn silicon and mine have never smelled. Even if I wait a few days before cleaning them right after a new stretch they still don't smell. Then again, I'm still at a small size so idk maybe that has sth to do with it.
Trying a new method of stretching. This first pic I was at size 2 and I am stretching to size 0 using a silicone tunnel. The first pic is the day I put the size 0 tunnels in the second is today. It’s been 5 days and I’m already making a lot of progress! Without the pain and stress on my ears too! This definitely works and I would recommend to anyone stretching their ears. #guages #tunnels #stretching #stretchedears #guages #girlswithtattoos #girlswithpiercings #girlswithguages
Good there is no pain but it's very dangerous to stretch with silicon because it can meld to your ears as they are healing. Glass is a smooth material that is good for stretching if you have trouble with certain materials. Maybe try that ;)
Why is it that when I search dreads on tumblr I mostly see white hipster girls trying to hard?
Because the majority of people on tumblr are white hipster girls.
THIS WAS SIX YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS 16, AND I NEVER DID IT. BUT PLEASE TEACH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT CULTURAL APPROPRIATION EARLY SO THEY DON’T DO/SAY STUPID THINGS THEY LATER REGRET. Shoutout to my mom, who in 2011 had probably never heard the term “cultural appropriation” in her life, but still had the good sense not to let me get them.
Also, this was inspired by thinking Whitney Mixter from The Real L Word was the most gorgeous person I’d ever seen, so… white lesbians, don’t get dreads. You’re negatively influencing 16 year olds who don’t know any better yet into thinking they’re an acceptable part of queer coding.
what is it about dreads that attracts white hippie culture, can someone help me understand
The practice of dreading first came about in indigenous cultures. One common example is the religious ascetics the Sadhus who let their hair dread in an attempt to remove themselves from society and connect deeper with God. Dreading has always existed in these cultures as a religious or spiritual practice, it was done in a way to accept oneself in one’s most basic and natural form. Indigenous cultures did not practice dreading because they thought it was ‘cool’ or because of a trend.
Time has gone on and this practice has been carried out for various reasons by different groups. One very powerful one is the use of dreads as rebellion to slavery during the slave trade. Many Africans forced into slavery dreaded their hair to show solidarity between each other and to protest the horrific treatment they were receiving by white slaveowners. The one that most people are familiar with is the Rastafarian movement, which started in Africa and traveled to the U.S. during the rise of the ‘Hippy movement’. What many people do not know however is that the Rastafarian movement itself was very much inspired by the practices found in these indigenous groups, whether they be Indian, African, Islander, or what have you. People of all different races and cultures who were inspired by that notion became interested in dreads as well and through that it has become a common stereotype that all people with dreads are hippies or stoners or that most hippies or stoners have dreads. Of course this is not true and many people have dreads for various personal reasons that may also not be related to being a ‘hippy’.
So as you can see, dreads are something that have attracted hippy culture as a whole, not just among whites. The only reason why blacks for example are not immediately signaled out as being hippies when having dreads is because dreading is much more common on average in the black community and has stronger ties to African heritage than lets say those with Asian ancestors.
Why white people in particular are interested in dreads I cannot tell you for sure because every individual has their own reasons and beliefs, as with any topic. I know you didn’t ask but I can provide you with my own reasoning for having them so that you can learn from a personal account and maybe understand it better.
Yes, I am of European heritage, I do not have kinky, afro-textured hair. However, even though I will NEVER NEVER be able to relate to or understand the struggles and discrimination that many with that hair type do face, I too had my own struggle with my hair and self-acceptance through my life. Yes I am white, but I have 3b textured curly hair and it took me years to actually like it. I can remember being a kid and having my mom try to brush through it and that I would cry for over an hour at how painful it was. I remember getting a straightener in 6th grade and being so happy that I could finally ‘fit in’ and look as beautiful as the popular girls. I remember being told by other students that my normal hair was ugly and out of control. From then until high school I spent at least an hour every day blow drying and then straightening my hair. It became exhausting. Of course this is not the same degree of hardship as let’s say, a person being denied a job over their hair and I am not claiming that it is or that those hardships aren’t worthy of complaint.
Thankfully, I did move on during my high school years to finally love and appreciate my hair for what it was and dreading in my eyes was simply the next step to recognizing my hair in its most natural form.
I used the freeform method and in less than a year I had legitimate mature locs in my hair. They didn’t even have bumps. They has passed the ‘teenage’ stage and were solid, uniform locs. I never made this decision because I saw some music video of a black person with dreads and wanted to be ‘black’. I wanted to have a similar experience that those original wearers of dreads, whatever the culture, had and I saw it as a way to grow into a more mature, patient, and accepting individual.
Yes I am white but I do not claim to understand dreads from a black perspective because I am not black. Not everyone has dreads for the same reason as I. People of all races have them as a trend. People of all races have them because they like the aesthetic and others have them for more spiritual or religious reasons. Those dreading cannot just be narrowed down to bland categories because it so much more complex than that. I hope this helped shed some light, and if you have any questions or would simply like to discuss feel free to contact me.
Thanks:)
If you can’t wash your hair in dreads, you shouldn’t get them. It is not good for your hair now cut those off, wait like a few years and go get a perm or something.
But you CAN wash them...?
This shit killed me lmaooooo
Lets be real tho a lot of white ppl DON'T have rhythm
Why are dreadlocks on white people considered cultural appropriation??
Some people believe dreads only belong to one culture and have exclusively been worn by only specific cultures, which is actually not true if you do research. We all have different opinions on what it all means tho

I’ve heard mixed things about essential oils in dread shampoo. Yay or nay?
All the shampoo from dreadlockshampoo.com is fantastic. They do have essential oils but most essential oils are fine. It's only certain ones that could possibly be an issue. Really go to the site they're so good.
important question: is it racist/harmful for cyberpunk fashion to use “dreaded” wigs?? also are there other poc who can have properly dreaded hair???
All hair dreads, it just takes longer for hair to mature depending on hair type. Hair type is what influences differences between dreads, not race. For example, an Asian person, a white person, and a Hispanic person could all have straight fine hair and their hair would all dread similarly. A person being "more of color" than another doesn't make their hair dread better. It just so happens that a lot of people of color also have more coarse, curlier hair types, but that's just a matter of chance anyways.
Also saying white people can't have them without their hair being gross is a compete myth. It's just based on stereotypes that gross people have perpetuated. There is no fact proving that at all, it's just based in insult and what people say, not reality.
Do Jews feel things? Do we have horns? Are we really in control of the media? Nazis would like to know. Y'all, we need to stop calling the alt-right anything but neo-Nazis.
this is….unreal
Welcome to Nazi America.
WHY THE FUCK ARENT YOU PEOPLE[GENTILES]REBLOGGING THIS. THE ALT-RIGHT[NEO-NAZIS] ARE ASKING IF WE ARE PEOPLE. WHY ARENT YOU REBLOGGING THIS? DO WE NOT DESERVE TO BE REPRESENTED? DO WE NOT DESERVE PROTECTION? FUCK!
When you don’t think a group are “people” it’s very eassy to abuse them. They’re not people with feelings, an experience of pain, families, or lives after all. It was easy for SS officers to execute Jews, Poles, Romani, and queer people in the Holocaust because they didnt think we were people. This isn’t just hateful. It’s dangerous. It’s dangerous the way the Muslim Registry is dangerous. These are pre-genocide red flags.
I AM A JEWISH PERSON. JEWS ARE PEOPLE. ALL PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE. A PERSON IS A PERSON NO MATTER HOW SMALL.
