I've been around the sun 38 times today! Here are 5 birthday facts about me: . . 🎂 My mom went into labor on Friday the 13th during a lightning storm that caused the hospital to temporarily lose power. I still enjoy making dramatic entrances. ⚡️ . . 🎂I'm terrible both at giving and receiving gifts. I think it's because I never really want "stuff"...though I'll never turn down a pamper service or a trip to Italy. 😉 . . 🎂I'm a non-conforming oldest child of 5. Rough for my parents; I think it's (mostly) worked out for me. . . 🎂 The best part of being 38 is how close I am to 40. I'm really looking forward to my 40's! . . 🎂I officially launched my coaching practice one year ago today. Hopefully, this will only make future birthdays that much sweeter. 😂 . . 🎉🎉🎉How do you like to celebrate your birthday? What's the best gift you've ever given or received?

Swipe for before/after shots of our family outing to a big box store. Our trip confirmed that we prefer to walk to our neighborhood shops! . . . I ❤️ having friends who loan us their cars (and their membership cards) but I'll take a stroll down a busy sidewalk to my local store any day before I do this again. They came to me, complaining of a bully boy who kicked them out of the playground. . I asked, "what do you want to do about it?" . "Arm ourselves with mudpies to throw if he comes back." . And so, little girls digging in the dirt, making plans, exploring, supporting, empowering each other. . They never had to use those mudpies, and I'm not sure if I would have endorsed it, but they felt stronger, together, and had a whole lot of fun getting dirty.

When my kids let me sleep in. 😂 "I was just standing near the art table and she just cut off my hair. I did not tell her to. ps don't spank her" ☹️ . Cutting hair seems to be a rite of childhood, though in this instance, the little one snipped a piece from her older sister. I ❤️that my big girl not only DIDN'T wake me up to complain, but she also interceded to ask for mercy on her troublemaking sister. . This is for all you stay-at-home parents, mompreneurs, and anyone who's just had A DAY with mischievous kids. This happens to all of us! We've all got bumps, bruises, and some chopped off hair from raising kids. Let's encourage one another in the midst of these challenges, knowing that we're all doing the best we can. . . . ** I feel compelled to say a word on the controversial issue of spanking. Though we do not spank often, we are not opposed to it (and my older daughter correctly identified that this was a spankable offense). We ARE opposed to angry, in-the-moment, out-of-control, emotionally reactive hitting of our children (or anyone). In our home, the choice to spank is made when both parents agree it is warranted, when a calm conversation with our children has ensured understanding, and is then immediately followed by holding, hugging, kissing, and expressions of love. Our kids aren't any more afraid of being spanked than of having candy taken away from them, and they understand the reason that either consequence would be enforced. The point of this post was to encourage ALL parents on the hard days, not to start a discussion on the ethics of spanking 😊Thanks for keeping any judgment to yourself on this one 🙏

"The lines represent my sadness, and it's so big because of how much anger I feel" Shortly after I snapped this pic, my 8 yo daughter covered the entire canvas in black - "I am lost in my emotions," she said. . She was having a difficult day at school with a bossy "mean" classmate. Tears came on and off all afternoon. So I pulled out this Buddha Board and asked her to draw her feelings. . After the canvas became black, we sat together to watch the water evaporate. As shards of white slowly appeared, I reminded my daughter that this was like the light of God's love, moving into her darkness. Together, we watched the light spread across the surface until no darkness remained. . Friends, I don't know what darkness you face today, but I do know the God of light and love who is able to move for you! I am saying a prayer as I write this, asking God to break through on your behalf.
