In the Ted Talk, “Lessons from Death Row Inmates,” David Dow speaks about trying to reduce the number of death penalty cases. The way he wants to reduce cases, is by trying to reduce the amount of murders. Dow appeals his argument to the audience by using logic and emotion. Dow uses visuals that help him explain his concept and keep the audience engaged in his talk. Dow also tells of personal stories that have happened when he has defended death row inmates for twenty years. These stories help connect the audience emotionally to Dow’s Ted Talk. Overall, this is a great Ted Talk for those who want to know about what is being done to stop the death penalty.

This week I learned that even lawyers that are representing death row inmates are trying to reduce the number of death penalty cases. The way one lawyer is trying to reduce the number is by trying to prevent murders in the first place. For my rhetorical analysis essay I chose a Ted Talk titled, “Lessons from death row inmates” by David R. Dow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYzrdn7YLCM

This article talks about the death penalty and how drug shortages are hampering with executions. Inmates have argued that the state’s lethal-injection method would subject them to cruel and unusual punishment because it is possible they could feel pain. They have also said a state provision that conceals the sources of drugs used in lethal injections violated their rights. Overall, the court has rejected all their claims. This article has helped me understand my topic more by allowing me to see how the inmates view the death penalty.

Hello, my name is Devin and I am currently a freshman at the University of Nevada. For my english class, we have to choose a current topic to write about during the semester. I chose to write about the death penalty because I think it is interesting that the death penalty is still happening even with drug shortages that are hampering with executions and I have wondered if it is unconstitutional for an execution to end painfully. Also, I have thought about what makes them determine what drugs are illegal to use.
