this video lives rent free in my brain
you should be addicted to shutting the fuck up
You wanna fuck me so bad it makes you look stupid
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
People on the internet say Chappell Roan is evil. I look into it, it turns out be bullshit. A few days later people again say Chappell Roan to s evil. I look into it and again it turns out to be bullshit. A few days later people are back at claiming Chappell is evil and this time they claim they say there is a pattern of behavior. But it's the same bullshit from previous times. And we learn nothing from this and the cycle continues.
Fandom will see a female character going through turmoil and trauma and think âHow can we make this about how a man feels?â
far from it being a plot hole, I think Alphinaud's issues w communicating in real world situations that don't call for One Amazing Speech are directly related to the fact that he was a speech and debate kid
So as you can clearly see from this screencap of an in-joke with a friend when they were nineteen, you have no choice BUT to acknowledge this queer indie author is scum. Another addition to my spreadsheet of over a thousand problematic authors to NEVER platform or support
Anyway here's the next chapter of my Crowley/Marauders fic! A/N obligatory fuck JKR and Neil Gaiman tho </3
rule 1 of nonbinary club: there is no right or wrong way to be nonbinary :)
rule 2 of nonbinary club: if u mention that half of us get seen as quirky and the other half get seen as rapists then u will be hunted for sport
I do think it's helpful to remember that most of the USA is way hotter than Europe and that's part of why we like big bevvy so much. We aren't just hedonists, we're also too fucking hot!!
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area theyâve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record Iâm fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
this is gonna sound stupid but i was talking abt this with a friend of mine the other day, but you can really tell when ppl view the concept of being transgender as a completely binary experience based on the way they do trans headcanons
happy pride month
since i dont see enough of it: nonbinary transfems i love you so so much
i donât want to be angry anymore iâm never going to hate again unless someone says something really stupid or if i see something i donât like at all or maybe just whenever i feel like it
