Black starting his journey at age fourteen instead of eleven is really funny to me. Fourteen is so old in the pokemon universe. At age fourteen, Red has his own house, Blue has his career as a gym leader, and White has her own small business. Black’s parents are essentially keeping this grown ass adult child in their house, and he still has to get their permission to leave Nuvema. No wonder he’s so gun-ho to start his journey. It’s like he’s twenty and still cooped up with his parents

Let’s Talk About Norman
I’m going to start off by telling you all something you probably already know: Norman is abusive. I try not to use super strong language on this blog because calling someone abusive / toxic is a pretty big deal, but Norman is an abuser, full stop. Aside from the obvious physical violence though, there’s a lot of emotional trauma he causes Ruby through his actions— this post is mostly going to be talking about Norman’s emotional abuse and how it affects Ruby’s psyche and actions throughout the arc instead of just “oh he punched his son down some stairs” because I think it goes way deeper than that. With that out of the way, the rest of the post is below the cut!

Sapphire after competing in a Pokemon Showcase for Ruby.
Here is the secret project between @_pokeart (you can find his piece on Instagram) and I! One day @capn-cap came up with the Pokespe girls as Disney princesses in my server. It was a fun idea to not do it. We got some side projects with this idea too like certain ship art👀👀

I love how Ruby’s Pokemon are a good 10 levels above Sapphire’s Pokemon. I suppose Sapphire most likely got caught up in her data research again (like she did pre-RS) which is what she was doing pre-ORAS anyways.
Plus Sapphire was never really about becoming the strongest like say, Red and Green. She just wanted to accomplish her goal of collecting the 8 badges before her 11th birthday. So she’s alraedy proved herself in that sense. (In ORAS she was level grinding Kirly so I guess that’s how it caught up in level?)
As for Ruby even though he refused to battle in front of others or train with his Dad in RS, it is implied that he had still been training himself on his own. He no longer attacks from one side plus he and Zuzu seemed to have strategies already set out (like Coco and Nana already did). Ruby also does seem to have more of a natural knack for battling compared to Sapphire (thanks to Norman).
Contrary to popular belief Sapphire isn’t about brute strength but rather she turns her enemies attacks against them, kind of in that the bigger they are the harder they fall sense. So she doesn’t need to have high level pokemon to win.
Ruby on the otherhand, while he does use trick tactics to throw off his opponents the way he generally wins is to use all out brute strength (it’s how he finishes all his battles). So he needs extraordinarily high leveled pokemon to pull that off.
Sapphire starts the battle with all out power to draw out the strategy of her opponent then turns it against them (just like the secret of Juu as Brawly said: Making use of the environment around you.)
Ruby starts out using trick tactics to throw off the opponent then defeats them with relentless all out power.

Hello there, good day. I actually manage to publish three, maybe four, lol, Pokespe fanfics today. I’m gonna drop the links here, hehe.

Poor kid, he thought he was doing the right thing but it just went horribly wrong.
Pretty much his whole life story, actually.
Thinking that not battling so others wouldn’t go through that again was a good idea. That didn’t turn out well.
Locking Sapphire in an aircar so she wouldn’t be possessed was a good idea. Also went horribly wrong.
Not telling Sapphire about the Asteroid to spare her feelings was a good idea: again went horribly wrong.
Pretty much anytime he makes a decision, really… especially one concerning Sapphire or his Father
Running away instead of facing his father was a big mistake too…
