I support trans athletes but you have to see it from the perspective of a young female athlete that it’s simply unfair to have mtf athletes participating in the same events. Just as it’s unsafe for ftm athletes to be participating in same events as biological males. I don’t think it’s right to not allow them to play sports at all but having them in the same categories as the gender they identify as isn’t fair.

Here's the thing. When we discuss this issue based upon sex, one of the things we also forget is that there some cis men that have natural physical advantages over other cis men (and same with cis women). Think about how many smaller sized players fall low in the draft because "Oh, but he's only 5'8", he'll never be able to play with the big boys" and then. Oh wait. They do. Wow, it's almost like sports ability isn't just predicated on what kind of body one has!

Same argument applies with trans athletes. And in fact, a lot of these complaints about trans athletes forget that for many trans people, HRT affects sex characteristics in a way that those "natural advantages" become a lot closer to the gender they're transitioning to: (excerpt from this article)

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby scooped the puck on his stick to do a spin-o-rama “Michigan” style goal. And this was just the five minutes before Penguins practice began.

Skills coach Ty Hennes could be heard yelling to winger Bryan Rust, “like Mario!” as Rust fired his first few shots with the old-school wooden twig.

However, it was Crosby who cracked himself up. With a big grin, he twirled past the circles, puck held on his blade by centripetal force, and whipped it into the net.

It wasn’t just a “Michigan” or “lacrosse” style goal. Crosby had to add a layer of difficulty as he put the Savardian spin into the routine because he’s Sidney Crosby. (x)
