Happy birthday Alma!
dgm Allena
does Allen even have any feelings for lenalee
Allen can feel lenalee when she's calling him even if she was far from him
in chapter 222 cross telling him to sleep with mana's memories and said he'll stay with him if he was afraid. but Allen rejected the idea of sleeping with mana's memories after he remembered lenalee
he told her no matter what happens he'll always be an exorcist. I just felt like he was telling her he would never be her enemy but exorcist her ally.I like how he remembers their hug scene where lenalee cry like a baby in his arms š
i love how he proved that mana isn't the only person he loves. after he remembered lenalee it was cool how Allen proved now his will to life isn't just about mana anymore and rejecting cross words also it was amazing how lenalee becoming a reason for Allen to not agree to cross what he wants. and Allen only remembers lenalee in a his worse time is just so cute š I also think in the future he'll remember her like this šš
my girl doesn't appear but I love how she's appearing in Allen's memories I feel like lenalee's living in Allen's head every single chapter š
and in this chapter Allen still thinks about her he doesn't know if he still alive or not
he also wants to go to her š he doesn't even know his condition yet𤧠all he thinks about is going to her
he allows her to sleep his shoulder peacefully and he appears very gentle with her. I love how Allen plays the role of a gentleman and treating her well
he thinks she's cute š so in the future I wonder if lenalee gonna hug him š¤ in their reunion š« since she created a hug scene in hallow and Allen may also face the same threats of disappearance I just hope he'll remembers lenalee just like in chapter 222 but a little different i hope lenalee is there in person awhile telling him not to leave and hugs him š is just sad if Allen regain his memories he may act differently and I'm just Imagining Allen doing his best to act like before so lenalee won't feel sad or notice anything from him
so is this possible in the end š¤ it doesn't matter if he ends up with road or not but I hope this happens in the end Allen having his own family and tries to be good father and Allen having a kids of his own in the endš and I bet he'll be very very good father
Alma: (ā”āæā”āæ)
Black Order, Scientists, Akuma, Noah, ANYONE: *threatens Kanda in some way, shape, or form*
Alma: (ŹāæŹāæ)
Alma [to Kanda]: (ŹāæŹ)ćāæ Hold my flower.
Kanda: āæ\(ļ½”-_-ļ½”) Kick their asses babe I got yo flower.
I saw a post about Yulma as parents. And it was adorable. How did their families react to Alma being pregnant . Mostly the Changs if their in this Au .š
Yes! X3 (Iām assuming this is about the initial post I made here, so Iām hoping itās okay if I answer this as a sort of Modern/Omegaverse AU? Ā Iām assuming I can if they Changs are involved timeline wise XD)Typically, I tend to see Kanda being related to Froi Tiedoll (whether biological, or adopted - Tiedoll just feels like a father figure to Kanda to me), and Alma as being the one related to the Changs. Ā Tiedoll was probably over the moon because he finally gets to be a grandfather, and I think Edgar would also be really happy (especially for Alma - look at how happy and glowing the cinnamon roll is!). Ā I think Twi would be the one protective ⢠parent, who would be more worried about if say Kanda and Alma are ready for that sort of thing. Ā Sheās the parent who strikes me as being more particular about making sure everything is taken care of, and that Alma is taking care of himself during a pregnancy - but I also see her being happy for them as well. <3
Very important question: does Kanda, with his super human healing abilities, get calluses from using his sword?
You ask my favourite questions! And this is something that has kept me awake at night, so hear me out.
Okay, so a bit of background: Iām a biochemist researcher by trade specialising in bone histochemistry, with a background in forensic anthropology and wrote my masters thesis on a bit of chemistry. Iām currently working on my PhD that involves proteins found in bones and how this changes all throughout life, and how this is reflected in death. Iām basically a skeleton expert and have a lot of thoughts about healing magic.
So Iām constantly thinking about how fucking weird Kandaās skeleton would be. T
ill weāre about 25-ish our body is still developing into its adult form, after this itās all downhill. So forensically, theyāre looking at body degradation rather than development to determine things about you, like your age.
The human body is constantly changing bits about itself in response to things, specifically things that are āupsettingā it. For example, you develop your knee caps early on so you can crawl without destroying the joint. People are also starting to develop tiny bones in their thumbs as a response to how popular texting and hand-held devices have become. People who do a lot of physically exercise, their bodies will lay down more bone where muscles attach in order to further anchor muscles in place, and where this happens reflect the activity, so runners can get bony growths on their legs from their muscles and weight lifters might have it in their arms and back. But a lot of these changes come from micro-injuries, and as a response to repetitive stress. Callouses are pretty much the same process, just a skin response, collagen production would likely increase in the area, and something called cross-links would increase to reduce flexibility of the skin in that area, basically making its own armour.
So Iām constantly thinking ādoes Kandaās talisman allow these minor stresses through to allow his body to properly adapt to the physical activities he has to do as an exorcist? Or does it constantly keep trying to fix them leading to Kanda basically always being stuck at first base with his training and thatās why he trains so hard all the time? Does he just have a jelly body like me? How many times has he broken a bone because he canāt strengthen it? Does he have to constantly use hand cream? Can be even lift bro?ā
So I canāt really answer in-canon, but now everyone can suffer with me as I over-think this. Thank you for coming to my ted-talk.
No, I am not fun to watch crime shows, medical dramas or sci-fi with.
TL;DR: Magic, or you can over-think about this and realise Kanda is made of paper.
NEED Alma and Lenalee friendship so bad.
They're doing their makeup in the bathroom and talking about life and anger and revenge!!!
Lenalee can't help but envy how Alma got to exact violent comeuppance on the people that hurt them and Alma respects Lenalee immensely for not giving into her rage and protecting rather than hurting.
Also they tell each other all of Yuu's embarrassing childhood stories for shits and giggles. Because they know all of them.
Someone threatening Alma
Alma: I have a boyfriend
Guy: So what? I don't care
Alma: No, that was a warning
A faint "Mugen" and the sound of a sword can be heard from the distance
Thinking about that modern/omegaverse AU for Yulma where Alma is a single parent omega and moves in the apartment unit next door to alpha!Kanda, and how things unfold from there. >.> I have too many AUs. >.<
omggg pls tell me more about the modern/omegaverse yulma AU!!! itās such a fun idea! who would be the kid? how would yulma start warming up to each other?Ā
iām so used to seeing yulma to be childhood soulmates (like in canon) in fics so them meeting only a adults is such an interesting premise!
AAA oh man, so this is an AU I actually thought of a few years ago. XD So itās had some time to live in my head! My general thoughts are that Kanda and Alma would probably be in their early twenties in this AU (maybe around 23)? Alma would have a 4-5 year old, so heās someone who got pregnant pretty young (probably his senior year of high school or first year of college ā Iām still tweaking that backstory). I feel like the kid would be an OC, only because I struggle to think of anyone that young who I could use from canon. But I really picture Alma having a daughter in this AU (still up in the air about her secondary sex, but I like the idea of her being a fierce little alpha girl, though her being a little omega would also be super sweet. ;__; ) That all said, Kanda lives alone in an apartment ā itās not like a great apartment complex, but itās on the cheaper end and heās been living since his senior year of college (he was living with Tiedoll before while saving up, and once he could get his own space, he jumped on it XD). In this AU, he probably works at a flower shop, because...I canāt resist. I need him working with flowers. X3 Eventually in this story, the unit next to Kanda becomes vacant ā which isnāt unusual. People come and go all the time, and Kanda doesnāt make an effort to really talk to any neighbors or anything (itās mostly other students who rent places because of the cheap price or other single professionals). So when Alma moves in next door with a 5-year-old pup, thatās a surprise. Parents with little kids arenāt usually in the demographic of who rents there, but then again, Kandaās not going to say anything (he probably hears someone moving in, but doesnāt realize thereās a kid until he hears the kid laughing in the hall or something, or maybe playing on their balcony ā which is next to Kanda's). As to how Kanda and Alma meet, they probably meet because Almaās kid ends up going over to Kandaās apartment and knocking ā like with the sole purpose of introducing themselves and making friends. Kanda of course is probably like ā??? Where (the fuck) are your parents???ā. At this point, Alma is probably freaking out in his apartment trying to find out where his kid is until he realizes theyāre outside somewhere, where he runs out into the hall in a panic ā and meets Kanda. >.> So, thatās my thought for how theyād initially meet (because Alma has an extroverted child), and the rest of the story would sort of revolve around how they continuously end up crossing paths because theyāre neighbors (usually because of the kid somehow), and eventually things sort of develop from there. :3 Thereās definitely a bit more plot-wise (at least in terms of character backstories and whatnot), but Iāve already rambled substantially on this. XD Itās definitely something Iād like to write one day! ^^
Happy pride month to them <3
Redrew their wedding from last year :)
low quality alma karmas from the vault
i need NEED krory and kanda to bond as widowed men with dead wives who were akuma with flower symbolism i need them to go to the very niche support group together and i need more people to cash in on this
AND THEY BOTH HAVE GARDENING AS A HOBBY
Left waiting, left wanting; why can't you see me
just imagine Sins Fate or Prayer [Banana Fish] playing & the text boxes flickering. Alma's symbolism goes so hard.
I'm on my hands & knees begging you to read the Alma Arc instead.
DGM Character Book - Katsura Hoshino Interview
First, your thoughts on the popularity contest results.Ā
I was shocked by the Earlās low placement, which I even wrote on the [back] cover. The contest was announced at the same time as the 202th Night so I secretly tried to draw the Earlās sleeping face in a cute way- or so I thought since it didnāt seem to have any effect. Old men arenāt so popular. But he beat Leverrier so thatās good.Ā
It has been seven years since D.Gray-man was serialized, and the comics has sold over 20,000,000 copies. What are your thoughts on coming this far?Ā
The plot hasnāt advanced as far as I thought. Together with the editors, the story kept expanding so the finale I was imagining has gotten further away. However, if I wrote the story the way I had in mind when the series was first serialized, I donāt think it would have been popular so Iām very grateful for the editors.Ā
Is there any character that developed outside expectations?Ā
Probably Johnny. At first I treated him as a minor character, but he and the Science Division became my support so they began to stand out. D. Gray-man is a heart-breaking story, but there are normal people such as the Science Division who acts as a saving grace. Even for the superpowered exorcists, they are able to remain human-like because of characters like Johnny.Ā
How did you feel after having finished the Alma Arc?Ā
It feels as if I got rid of heavy baggage. It was the story that was requested the most by readers so Iām glad it was written. At Jump Festa a while ago when D. Gray-man was featured, I wrote a letter to the fans that I was planning on writing Kandaās backstory soon. I was actually present when the letter was written and felt the reaction of the audience to its core. Thatās why I held on to the feeling of, āI want to write it quickly, but the foundation of that story hasnāt been set up yet⦠sorry!ā before writing the Alma Arc.
Did you have the idea of the Alma Arc from the beginning?Ā
No. Kandaās backstory in the beginning was completely different. I was thinking of artificial exorcists from the start, but Alma never existed during the planning stages in 2008. Initially āthat personā was the real owner of Kandaās heart who became an AKUMA. I was thinking along the lines of Kanda finding her before her soul was disappearing and then saving the soul as an exorcist. There were too many inconsistencies for the story so I left it. Then one day, Almaās existence suddenly popped into my head so from there I was able to arrive at the current Alma Arc smoothly.Ā
It seems as if Kandaās backstory was changed since the beginning.Ā
During serialization, I was always thinking about the connection between Kanda and āthat personā. The reason why Kandaās character design was feminine in the beginning was because he was supposed to be the reincarnation of āthat personā. In that story, his motive in searching for āthat personā wasnāt satisfying to me. I was having trouble with the [storyās] foundation until transferring to SQ.Ā
Why did you want to tell Kandaās episode at that moment?
Personally I wanted to write it as soon as possible, but I thought the readers might hate the Order if I brought out its dark side too quickly. Kanda and Alma for obvious reasons, but I also wanted to develop characters such as Leverrier, Renny and the Thirds first. Since the actors were set, the story was finally established and was able to move on to the main event. Kandaās backstory was not just about the Order doing something terrible long ago; it was also a stepping stone to progress Allenās story as well so thatās why I was having quite a few problems with it.
Was transferring to monthly magazine the catalyst of starting the Alma Arc?
Yes. The overall structure was never formed enough during the weekly serialization so I was a little worried about doing this story. I was able to have enough time to plan out the characters so it was probably because I transferred to monthly that I was able to do this story. If I continued in a weekly, it might have had a completely different conclusion.Ā
Starting from the Noah, there were a lot of new characters in the Alma Arc.Ā
It was really hectic because a lot of new characters were created, and I was also thinking of the story. The editor for the comics thought that there were too many characters and told me, āThey canāt all fit on the character page!ā I knew that Allen would leave on a journey after this arc so there would be much less characters afterwards- I wrote the story while consoling myself with that thought.Ā
A small scene with the original forms of āthat personā and Kanda was shown as exorcists- will they appear again later on?Ā
I have no plans to write about those two. Iāll leave it up to the readersā imagination.Ā
Is there any meaning to the lotus illusions that Kanda saw?Ā
It was one of the things that his original self saw in the past so thereās no particular meaning. Kanda thought that if the flowers sank in the dirt, his life would end. He began to see those after destroying Alma so he probably thought of it as a curse. The flowers multiplying and withering away was an unlucky symbol for him. Since Kanda has no memories of his original body, seeing the flowers becoming more vivid was very tough for him.Ā
Alma became an AKUMA with a different form from the usual ones, right?
Normal AKUMA are captured souls that are inside a magically crafted body. In Almaās case, he still retained the memory of himself as a Second so āthat personā became the soul inside the body. Dark matter trapped the soul, and his body itself became the crafted body. The Earl saw through that and triggered Almaās AKUMA form, but he was an AKUMA created in an unconventional way so his body is very brittle. Thatās why [Almaās body] fell apart in the end.Ā
Why did you choose Martel for where Kanda and Alma escaped to?Ā
The Ark Gate can only open to places Allen knows so if it was where neither the Order nor the Earl would find them for some time, it would be the ancient town, Martel. Kanda and Alma overlapped with the image of Guzol and Lala in my head. Itās the resting place for a doll so I chose it thinking that it was a pretty good choice.Ā
Have you thought about bringing Martel back after Volume 2?
Yes. Martel is the story I like even today so I always looked for opportunities to bring it back. A certain amount of time has passed since Volume 2 so there would be less pillars that characterized Martel and more trees and insects. I wanted to show that after Guzol and Lalaās death, there were small traces of life appearing.Ā
There was an extra story in Volume 20. [TN: 193.5]
I really wanted to show that scene. The reason why Fo didnāt protect anyone during Almaās rampage was missing so I asked for a few pages when the volume was being made. Other than Foās story, the reunion between Alma and small Kanda while he was carrying Marie was shortened: originally Kanda was supposed to go to Alma while discovering Edgar and the other corpses one at a time. Because of page number constraints, it ended up with the single horrific image of Alma stabbing Edgar- it was shocking for me even as I drew it. I really liked Edgar. I also wanted to write the words Twi left to Renny after [the latter] escaped- I had lots of things I wanted to write. However, the pacing of the story would be badly affected so I was tearfully giving up.Ā
Were there also scenes you couldnāt include apart from the āAlma arcā?Ā
Yes! There are still tons of unwritten moments. Itās like I want to reveal them all here. It would be nice if I could show those scenes eventually.Ā
After the Alma arc, the Apocryphos appeared.
Originally after the Alma arc, a prominent person at Central was supposed to appear opposite Leverrier. While I was discussing it with my editor, that character evolved and finally ended up as an Innocence. I wanted to write the story about the Heart soon and create a character from [the Heartās] side.Ā
After the Cardinalās appearance, Leverrierās image also has changed.
Leverrierās standing increased exponentially after he knelt down in the 205th Night; he led everything in that chapter. My image of Leverrier has always been like that so it was natural having him kneel for Link. Before drawing that panel, I looked at pictures of various poses. I thought quite a bit about which angle would be good.Ā
How did you feel when drawing the departure scene between Allen and Lenalee?Ā
I was thinking, āAllen exceeded Lenaleeās height!ā while drawing it. They were about the same height in Volume 1 so it was deeply touching to see Allen maturing.
Itās been a while now, but you went to New York for a research trip?Ā
Yes. That was my first research trip. I love the buildings in New York. Itās not pretty but thereās a certain flavor to it. I like everything from how it stands to the design. Its influence is more more evident in the one-shot, Continue, than D. Gray-man.Ā
Where did you go?Ā
After I got off the plane, the first place I went to was a graveyard. I never really had any resources of graveyards for D. Gray-man so I couldnāt really grasp at the balance of foreign gravestones. Thatās why I took a lot of pictures.Ā
Which place left a deep impression?Ā
Ground Zero where the Twin Towers of 9/11 used to stand. It wasnāt rubble; there was reconstruction going on. The tour guideās interpreter said that when the building fell, there was a metal bar that stood resembling a cross. That story left a great impression and inspiration. I was also really interested in the Metropolitan Art Museum, but there were time constraints and physical limits so unfortunately I couldnāt go around the whole place. I want to go there again as revenge. The corner streets and small shops in New York have a lot of interesting designs so I was moved no matter where I looked.Ā
How was the first national signing event at JF 2011?Ā
It was really fun and gave me more motivation to draw. Before the event, I was really nervous and regretted accepting the offer. After the event ended, however, I was glad I participated. The hand holding the mike was shaking when I was on stage, but I lost all nervousness after hearing the warm applause from fans.Ā
You got to talk with the fans at the signing event.Ā
Everyone was nice, and I received words such as, āDonāt worry too muchā or āLive more comfortablyā. I was really grateful. Iām not sure if they could tell from the work, but they saw right through my personality of worrying too much about everything. I really felt that I was supported by the fans. At the previous signing event in Germany, there were a lot of hugs being given so I would have given some in Japan if there was a request. However, things are a lot more reserved in Japan so I felt that it would have been nice if there was a little more [physical] interaction.
There was a live stream on Niconico Douga [TN: Japanese YouTube] where you drew.Ā
The camera was really close so I couldnāt really draw a rough sketch. The pen I drew with unfortunately didnāt really work. While my hand was shaking, Allenās pentacle was drawn incorrectly so it became a spotty drawing. If I could go back in the past, I would have redrawn it- it was really embarrassing.Ā
Editor: Okay! Letās do it again this year!Ā
Hoshino: Huh!? I⦠I never meant it like that!Ā
Apart from the singing event, thereās also a new challenge for SQ.Ā
The SQ editors gave a lot tasks Iāve never done before, and one of them was drawing a cover for The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes. It was my first attempt at this job so Iām anxious to hear the thoughts from readers. I have no doubt that Holmes has sharp eyes in my mind, but there might be people who think otherwise so I would like to have a discussion with those people.Ā
[TN: Holmes looks like a hotter version of Cyril/Sheryl. #notashamed]
How did you feel participating in āCross X Squareā?Ā
It was my second time, and I really enjoyed it. I choose the illustrations seriously so itās not just my personal interest but the composition of the work.Ā
What are some criteria in selecting the postcards?Ā
I donāt really care about how similar they look to the characters. Instead, Iām drawn to a picture with a strong uniqueness. I have a hatred of coloring, but Iām drawn to pictures that utilize it well.
Thereās going to be a new series presented at the magazine āSQ. LaBā.
At first I was planning to write it for D. Gray-man as a side story, but the editor said that it has no freshness to it and was rejected. Thatās why I decided to write it as a new story.Ā
What kind of story are you planning with the new story?Ā
Iām aiming for the complete opposite of D. Gray-man. Itās something light-hearted that you would read quickly. The current idea is that itās taking place in a town in the present day with a superhero theme. The place where the main character resides is at a soba restaurant. Iām not still too sure if I could continue with this concept so please read the result in LaB!Ā
D. Gray-man is also entering a new arc.Ā
Even though Allen left the Order, heāll still have comrades. He wonāt be alone. Itās D. Gray-man so sad stories will continue although it canāt be helped because the theme of the series is ātragedyā. I want to write it in a fun way though.Ā
Lastly some final words for the readers.
Lavi -who never really appeared after transferring to monthly- is in 3rd place in the popularity results; Iāll take it as the readerās wish for Lavi to have more screen time. Thereās a big ordeal waiting for Lavi and Allen so I hope to write it in a way so the readers will enjoy it. After having done the popularity contest, I hope to include more characters and advance the plot. Lastly, if thereās another chance to have a popularity contest, I would be very happy if everyone is a little more attentive to the Earlās charms. *laughs* As well as for the various characters, I wish for your support!
This book was released on July 4th 2011, the same time as chapter 206.
