Final writing credits for live-action ATLA Season 1 have been submitted; Bryke wrote two episodes
With the final writing credits now submitted, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra co-creators and Avatar Studios co-heads Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino (“Bryke”) co-wrote two episodes of Netflix’s eight-episode live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1: episode 1 and episode 6.
We already knew about episode 1, which was co-written between live-action showrunner Albert Kim and them.
What’s new is episode 6, the story of which was by Ubah Mohamed and Bryke and the script (aka “teleplay” in the world of TV) by Emily Kim (Marvel’s Spider-Gwen), Hunter Ries (Nick/Netflix), and Bryan only.
“Story by” + “teleplay by” = “written by”, so all the other episodes besides episode 6 had the same people for both story and script, and “teleplay by”/“written by” credits are for when someone has contributed at least 33% of a script when it comes to an adaptation. This isn’t because Bryke are the creators of the source material– their credits for that will be separate and unrelated to episode writing credits.
Here’s the updated list for the season:
Episode 1: Albert Kim and Michael Dante DiMartino & Bryan Konietzko
Albert Kim: showrunner
Mike and Bryan: ATLA/TLOK creators, Avatar Studios heads
Episode 2: Joshua Hale Fialkov
Young Justice (DC)
Episode 3: Christine Boylan
Cloak & Dagger (Marvel)
The Punisher (Marvel, Netflix)
Episode 4: Keely MacDonald
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (Netflix)
Episode 5: Gabriel Llanas
National Treasure: Edge of History (Disney+)
Episode 6: story by Ubah Mohamed and Bryan Konietzko & Michael Dante DiMartino, teleplay by Emily Kim & Hunter Ries and Bryan Konietzko
Ubah Mohamed: LA Law
Emily Kim: Marvel’s Spider-Gwen
Hunter Ries: Nickelodeon, Netflix
Episode 7: Audrey Wong Kennedy
Amazing Stories (Apple TV+)
Episode 8: Albert Kim
Live-action ATLA first look guide
Here’s your guide to live-action ATLA’s first look(s?!) this weekend at Netflix’s Tudum Global Fan Event, coming to you live from São Paulo, Brazil!
NEW: First, there will be a “SURPRISE ON STAGE WITH AVATAR” on the central stage of the Bienal Pavilion on FRIDAY, JUNE 16TH from 1:15-1:45pm, one day before the main event!
Then the big day: The first look will be at some point during the global livestream event on SATURDAY, JUNE 17TH, which takes place from 5:30-7:30pm. Main castmembers Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), and Dallas Liu (Zuko) will present live from the main stage in Brazil.
ATLA has its own whole half-hour slot for the special surprise on Friday, but for the main event on Saturday it’s one of many shows and movies that will be featured, so only expect a few minutes from that. But, also expect that to be where the biggest reveals happen.
Avatar News will be covering the news from afar (with a special surprise of our own 👀) while our friends at Avatar’s long-running Brazilian fansite Mundo Avatar will be reporting live from the event in person!
All times listed here are in São Paulo’s local time for the event location. You can convert to your time zone by Googling “5:30pm Sao Paulo to [your city here]”!
No word yet on whether the special surprise on Friday will be available online, but you can watch the main global livestream event on Saturday LIVE at Netflix’s official YouTube stream, already pre-available here:

I love desire paths. There's something so wonderous about seeing an echo of humanity. Depending on it's location, a desire path can mean so many different things.
In a city, like the pic above, they represent rebellion, and efficiency. The messiness of humanity. We like to imagine we're oh so logical and neat so we design our cities to be logical and neat an then real humans literally trample on that idea. The ego required to think you can design something perfect that checks every box. Life is all about compromise and patching stuff when some new problem arises. Though people have certainly tried! Ohio state univeristy let students carve their desire paths, and then paved them over. It looks pretty artsy.
Some people will try to discourage desire paths, but this is almost always going to fail.
Eventually, people just have to accept them. Humans are too dang stubborn.
Certain desire paths are just adorable. A 0.5 second time saver. You just can't design for maximum efficiency, humans will always find shortcuts!
Though on occasion a desire path can actually be the least efficient way...especially if you're superstitious.
In a wilder area, such as below, they show us the curiosity of humans. A desire path somewhere natural often tells you there's something interesting just ahead. (Though remember some ecosystems are fragile and will suffer if trampled! Stick to paths in these sorts of areas)
And how about desire stairs? I always think these look so cool. We get see humans determination to climb, to traverse every kind of terrain.
And for something really crazy...a desire path used for centuries will create a 'holloway'
All of these pics are off the Desirepath subreddit, check them out for more examples! And many thanks to the users who submitted these photos.

when a hug is more romantic than any of the kisses
Okay, let's talk about /the hug/.
I've seen everyone saying how Wednesday hugged Enid back when she saw her crying, but imo, it wasn't just that.
Now, lets recap:
Enid is the epitome of "soft" on Wednesday's eyes. The scaredy cat that isn't able to listen to her murder theories without passing out, the one who can't wolf out and whose only proof of being a werewolf is having rainbow colored claws. So yeah, THAT same Enid that gets scared of anything remotely creepy literally jumped a Hyde, just to save her. The same Hyde that has a rep for gutting and maiming half of the population in Jericho.
So, imagine seeing that soft, sweet Enid, completely covered in blood and with her face scratched open, running to hug her. As if her only priority was making sure Wednesday was okay.
When Wednesday pushes her off, she /sees/ her bloody face that will remain permanently scarred and all she founds there is relief.
The only reason Enid didn't die was because Sheriff Galpin distracted his son shooting him, giving her an opening to push him back. That girl put her life on the line for Wednesday without even thinking it twice, because in her words "You don't have to ask. Thats what friends do."
Those. Are not just friends. Those are best friends for life.

Breaking from SDCC: The first Avatar Studios movie coming to theaters in 2024 will no longer be about Kyoshi, but rather Aang! And, exclusive from Avatar News: it will be set in a time period where Team Avatar are young adults!
At today’s Braving the Elements panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Janet Varney (the original voice of Korra) announced that Avatar Studios’ first animated movie coming to theaters will be about Aang and his friends!
Avatar News previously revealed Avatar Studios’ slate of movies with a different project, Kyoshi, coming first. As I mentioned in that post, the order/dates of the projects could change, since it’s super early. I’ve even heard that some of their projects have shifted between being movies and shows, so it’s obviously still all very fluid.
I have an additional exclusive to add though: Team Avatar will be adults/young adults in this movie. I know a more specific age range, but I’m not allowed to reveal that yet.
If you follow Avatar News on social media, you’ll know I had plans to reveal live-action news on Thursday and Friday and animation news on Saturday and Sunday of SDCC. My post tomorrow was going to be that they’ll be adults in the Zuko movie (here’s proof), so that has obviously been bamboozled. I’m not sure if the Aang movie is the “Zuko-focused” movie, but I can tell you that the/a “Zuko movie” was definitely scheduled to be the second one at one point, and it makes total sense they would do Aang era first instead!
As for Kyoshi, I don’t know what’s happening with her place in animation. An earlier version of the schedule I saw had Aang in 2024 and Korra in 2025, so it’s possible that was always the case, or they switched the schedule or switched back, or… who knows! As I mentioned, some projects have shifted between movie and show, so it’s possible her movie became a show, or it will take the 2025 or 2026 slots, all of which could still change, obviously.
I guess my last note should be that theoretically the adult Gaang project could be a different project than the 2024 Aang movie, but I highly doubt it. But, I’ll say that’s possible here for posterity.
Get hype! And thank you to Avatar Studios for the official update!
