I am so lucky to be able to bring my best friend to college this year.

A short story about the lowest I have ever felt. / home alone / midnight /

Before going low: I made wheat pasta and bolused for said meal. My dog was playing with my roommates kitten that she’s babysitting and I was worried he would play too rough with it. I engaged with them and forgot about my food. Around 45min later I remembered I had pasta and ate. 20min after that, I am laying down for bed.

Being really low: So the low came on really quick, that’s how I knew I was still dropping and I realized I needed to get up and look at my dex as well as calibrate it. I start getting shaky and breaking a sweat. Finally got it all ready and I was 33 as you know. That’s when I started trying to contact someone. I went for the airheads and was doing my best to chew but it was difficult. I wanted to stand up and go unlock the door because I was afraid I was going to pass out and they would have to bust the door open and Kody (my dog) was going to run out. But I couldn’t get up, I laid where I was and had to keep telling myself to breath or I would drift out of consciousness. By this time I was sweating and coming close to just calling 911. Luckily I got ahold of a friend  because I was getting desperate. I don’t remember very well when I talked to her. She stayed on the phone with me and waited for my BG to rise. It was now 35. 10min later I check and I am 60, whew.

Being low: I then got really hungry and ate far too much. I ate 3 cups of cereal, two rice crispy treats and Reece Pieces.

Asleep and high: BG went really high and woke at 4am having to tinkle and again at 8am. 

Awake and exhausted: This morning I found wrappers in my bed and the cereal box spilled on the floor next to me. I also found a juice box that I have no recollection of drinking. I am all good now but I’m a little freaked out from it.

I was wondering if you plan on playing soccer in college? I'm still thinking about it because it seems like a lot of work with diabetes

Hey! I noticed you have a dexcom, does that work well for you? I'm thinking of asking my endo abt getting one...

I love my dex! It has its moments just like the pump but it's worth it to me.

Reminder

Your body isn’t trying to kill you. Your body is trying hard to survive. It has the wrong blueprint, it lost the manual, but it’s trying.

Your body is working the only way it knows how, it is trying so hard to keep you alive. Your body is not the enemy, it is the battlefield.

It’s okay to resent your body, it’s okay to not love your body because it doesn’t function like others do.

But remember your body is fighting hard for you, even when it doesn’t seem like it.
